Title: MMJ fan club
Post by: wellfleet on Nov 28, 2005, 03:22 PM
Has there ever been any consideration for a Jacket fan club? Wouldn't it be cool to have something official and quasi-exclusive where for, say, 20$ a year you can have access to bonus material, special merch, pre-sales, or fan-club-only CD releases? Dave Matthews Band has something like that and you can purchase live recordings that aren't available to the general public. Like that, MMJ can have an extra source of revenue because if the fee is kept reasonable, I'm sure lots of people would join. Not only that, it would also make me feel like i belong to something greater than myself. Or something like that.

The fan club package could include:

Letter from the band explaining what the @!%%^&%^  My Morning Jacket REALLY means
Stickers (gotta have stickers)
Key-chain (we all got them keys)
Call on your birthday from a member of the band singing "you say it's your birthday..."
A lock of Jim's hair
10% off at your local crack dealer
Atlanta'z Finest Crunk Vol. 1 on CD or vinyl

you know...

Hey, thanks! Probably not very understandable though. That is my band, actually. Guess who is wearing the brown bear t-shirt in the heading....

If you choose "Nyheter" in the right menu, and scroll down to a news called "Lydklipp Perfect" you can listen to a soundclip on one of our songs. Hopefully we'll get more songs up there soon.

Some actually say we sound a bit like MMJ. Not quite sure, though....

Very entertaining post + I love the list. Just not sure if you're serious or not?
I personally think we're very lucky with things as they are right now.
We get all sorts of stuff for free, the streams section, for example & the forum itself is almost like a fan club. We have some great members who very quickly put up TV slots etc, we've got archives.org & of course, John's FTP server.
B'day phone call would be nice though - Jim, it's my B'day on Thursday!  ;)

dragonboy... I am totally serious. I mean, obviously I don't expect Carl to call me and wish me happy birthday (but Carl, baby, if you insist...) but I think some kind of extra material would be nice. You're right about the streams and the forum, they are great, and so is everyone here but I don't mind paying for something extra. I certainly don't expect it to be free or anything and people gots to make a living. The Beatles had lots of fan club exclusives and paraphernalia that not only made lots of fans happy, but also make E-bay go 'round!
I just think it would be awesome to get more MMJ or something like, if you're a member and the band comes to your town, you can go on a meet-and-greet if you buy tickets for the show. Nothing too imposing, just a photo-op and maybe they can sign a photo or magazine or something... Wouldn't that be cool?
And definitely, if we could get some Jacket JACKETS happening, that would be freakin' mighty!

get a nice blue velvet blazer with a big bear embroidered on the back and the name in script on the left breast?

I'd settle for a good light-weight zip-up hoodie. I should just make one...

oohh oooh, another thought. if we did the blazer, we coulde screenprint that bear from the dallas show on the back. that'd be amazing.

That's the 2nd time you've mentioned Grease WellFleet, are we right to presume you are a fan?  ;)
Great Movie BTW.

dragonboy... well, it's nice to know someone's paying attention! i am a fan, albeit a closeted one. most girls say something along the lines of "aaawww, i LOVE Grease" and guys say "never seen it and don't wanna". my husband falls into that man category but i am convinced i came of age in the wrong decade (born in 1980 so you figure it out). would have loved to grow up on doo-wop, see the beatles emerge, pretend i know what magical mystery tour is all about... all the singing and dancing and drive-ins and the dance and jukeboxes and steaming up windows at make-out point, it's kind of romantic. maybe we just romanticize it because we know the fifties turned out ok, but what do we have now? in eigth grade, my school cancelled all dances because some gangbanger moron brought a gun to a halloween dance and shot at someone (he missed). just seems like we have a lot more balls in the air these days. sorry, only 25 and longing for the olden days... all this to say, the movie is cool, i love fifties music, and Jacket jackets for girls and boys would be peachy keen!

Sounds like a damn fine idea wellfleet! I would like to add a few things....

How about an  MMJ bathrobe, with an  MMJ monogram....and dude slippers!

Also I think the Jacket should cover 'Better Shape Up" or whatever it is called from the Grease soundtrack....i would love to hear James wail "I got Chills, they're multiplying...and I'm losing control..." ok, far fetched but fun to think of none-the-less!

:D

This is a good idea.  well, some of the ideas are far-fetched indeed, but some sort of fan club is not out of the realm of possibilities, I'm sure.  I think it would be cool if the band released a Xmas message and track to their fan club members like the Beatles used to back in the day.  To get this idea off the ground you'll only need two things: 1) a kind soul to organize the club and donate some time 2) an okay from the band.

dude, i'll help organize. I've got a shitload of time on my hands (I'm in college, so i'm basically just ignoring all the work I have to do).

I've got tons of envelopes and paper and I can help throw together whatever else we need, but whatever. I'd be happy to just to be in it.

I think LaurieBlue needs to be a part of this.

And Meg.

Hell, I'll do stitching on of artwork onto blazers and bathrobes if i could get my hands on the materials. I'm not half-bad with a sewing needle.

Don't know if you've heard of the norwgegian band Turbonegro. They have a fanclub called Turbojugend. They buy jackets with their hometown all over the world. Something similar only with a cooler jacket (a morning jacket.....  ;D) would be great.

a fan club......brilliant my friends!!!!!
I would be willing to invite fellow fan clubbers (and the boys of course) over to my house for a pre-dinner, drinks, and smokes (if you partake) party when they come through Chicago.....I'm dead serious about this one!!!
maybe we should try to contact the president or other members of the 10 Club (PJ's fan club I think) on how to put all this together.
With all the kind and creative folks on the board here, we could have a lot of fun and come up with a great ideas.

dude, i'm from chicago. used to work at a guitar repair shop in the suburbs before i shipped off to nashville for college. that would rock.

about the robes/blazers

I'm sure we can get a deal with a company to get these suckers. maybe somebody smaller who would appreciate this kind of thing. I'm thinkin the blazer's would be frickin ace. especially if they're blue or red crushed velvet

freaking ace.......Johnny likee  :)
I saw this at the Madison show...........what if we just wanted to have an unofficial club and someone wanted to be a part of it, they could wear a black sweatshirt, sweater, or something of the like with a big red Z in the upper left or right corner.

Quotelike a lightweight black zipup hoodie with the Z safety pinned on?
exactly. or ironed on, or even sewn on if you have skillz.

for the pre-show dinner at my house, the sign to let everyone know they have arrived at the correct house would say, "Welcome to the Z house." (get it, like a tree house.)

I'm game for the fan club, can't help but think of the New Kid's when I hear "fan club" but if it's more MMJ then bring it on.
