i found this song on itunes and had no idea about ti, did they right it? or is it a cover
You're kidding right?!! ;D
Suspicious Minds was written by Mark James & was one of Elvis Presley's most famous/popular songs. Jim has played it solo a few times...
lol my bad... not to big into elvis

It's a classic, very well done cover. I have two different versions from Dylan's covers comp if you need them, let me know, I will upload them somewhere.

How have you posted here over a thousand times and not seen the covers comp? Sometimes I think getting a thread stickied is a bad thing. Maybe I should post a thread about each individual song, one at a time, once a week or something. There's some great shit in there, people. Go get it! Start with Hot Burrito #1.
Oh and they are ALL available for free download. I repeat the best version of every song that the band has ever covered live and has since been circulated is available for download at the covers comp thread. http://www.mymorningjacket.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1154140025
Sorry if I seem upset but it boggles my mind how many people ignore that collection. Not because it's my work but because the music is so great. I've spent nine years collecting and cataloging these covers and people who are senior members of this board don't know it exists. It can be frustrating.
Holy Crap, Hot Burrito #1, EVERY time I hear Jim sing this on my iPod I could just fucking cry. It's BRILLIANT!

i have it! I love it! That comp was one of things that made me love MMJ so much. It's not that they do covers that made me love them, but it was how well they do the covers, how much thought is put into each cover and the choice of songs which made me fall for them so hard. So thank you AmD! your a king amongst men.
Have you added the new ones? Bonnaroo? Lollapoloza?
Thanks for the props. I haven't updated it recently. I need to start a new thread but haven't gotten around to it, even though BH has already done most of the leg work for me of late.
How about we get this thread back on track & continue talking about Elvis? Thanks people! ;)

Does he say 30 or 40 years? Not a big deal but I thought it was 30. I haven't heard the song in a while and love the way he introduced it. It's a great version.

You're probably right. I think I totally screwed up that quote. that's a great version though.
db, sorry to get off track on the covers comp in a thread about a song that is available on that comp. or did I mention that? The song's not even by Elvis anyway, just like all his hits. Shouldn't this thread be about Mark James? ;)

i could talk elvis all day, DB ;-) my nickname in high school was elvis--i was such a weird kid! i still get shivers hearing his version of 'if i can dream'---the gold hits -blue cover (album w/kentucky rain, in the ghetto, suspicious minds, clean up your own backyard) is one of my favorites of all time. i love that leather jump suit- that was after he got out of the army and got married and he was afraid people wouldn't accept him anymore---that was a big night--comeback special!! :D
anyone who calls themselves a Elvis fan should read Peter Guralnicks two books...Last trip to Memphis and Careless love. I love the King. His band with James Burton was one of the best at the time...its such an overlooked period because of the "early" and "late" elvis fame.
"Some 25 years ago today"....just getting it right for the archive that's all.....I mean no emotional harm to anyone-I promise

All the brit bands you love & now Elvis?!! I swear Pennylane, if I wasn't (happily?) married, I'd jump on a plane & fly to the states with the one intention of wooing you ;)
I've read both of those Bold99, excellent books!
amD--i post on here from work so i can never open the links---i'll definitely check them out now and put them on my laptop--thanks for insisting ;-) !! i had no idea he covered that.
Dragonboy--thanks for the compliment---reminds me of a Strangers with Candy quote although i have no idea why: (lol)
If wishes and buts were clusters of nuts we'd all have a bowl of granola!" ...---Geoffrey jellineck
