Grace laid down an excellent cover of My Morning Jacket's "Golden" on Sunday at the show in Montreal. You can grab the entire show from etree here - Petit Campus, Montreal, QC - Grace is in a talkative mood. Special Bonus Michael McDonald impersonation at the end!
"Golden" (click to download)
Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode.
Driftin' off a thing i'd never done before
Watchin' a crowd roll in. out go the lights it begins.
A feelin' in my bones i never felt before...
Mmm... people always told me. that bars are dark and lonely
And talk is often cheap and filled with air.
Sure sometimes they thrill me
But nothin' could ever chill me.
Like the way they make the time just disappear
Feelin' you are here again. hot on my skin again.
Feelin good a thing i'd never known before
What does it mean to feel?
Millions of dreams come real
A feelin' in my soul i'd never felt before... mmm...
And you always told me.
No matter how long it holds me if it falls apart
Or makes us millonaires. you'll be right here forever.
We'll go thru this thing together
And on heaven's golden shore we'll lay our heads
I think Jim and Grace Potter should do it! ;)

Thanks. I promise not to abuse it, I just like the novelty of it. I heard a partial cover of Kings Of Leon's, Arizona a while back by Grace, and hope she finally pulled it off one day. Any knowledge of that?
BTW- Welcome to the board.
I just saw Grace in Boston last thurs....she rules...her and Jim should really do something together (I mean on stage!) she also rocks the Flying V like no other female i've seen. She covered Paint It black and Pain in my heart the other night...killer voice and he band rocks.

They played Arizona in Troy, NY last Saturday. I haven't seen it on archive or anywhere else yet. They also did it back in February at the Bluebird Theater in Denver, CO
Here you go!

Next time she comes around invite me! I'll definitely go. (this is Nate)
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are AWESOME. How they dont get more recognition is beyond me, I would advise everyone to go out and buy both their cd's. I'm still trying to see them live though, i've heard nothing but good things.
I've never heard of her before but I like the cover. She has a nice voice.

Exactly...I don't think there is a band out there that plays more shows....Grace hosted the Jammy awards this year with Warren Hayes, she's had her songs on TV shows, she's played with and opened for just about every band out there....its crazy that people don't know about these guys. I would recommend seeing them live before listening to the studio stuff but I like the albums also. Great Live Band.

Grace did "Golden" again last night during her first solo show in years.
Video included!

do yourself a favor and watch that video, its very different, she definitely puts her own spin on it
I love the band, I have the two cds and I've seen them live.
I saw them open up for the black crowes and part of me enjoyed their set more then the crowes. I love grace and the nocturnals. I'm glad you posted this, I really enjoyed hearing this.
Here's a picture from the show.

I gotta say, Jim's version on Acoustic Citsuoca (which someone else pointed out to me) is stellar. Sure sounds like that was Grace's inspiration on this one.
Sorry for the thread bump but I just joined tonight.
I also saw Grace and the Nocturnals open for the Crowes; Shootin, were you at the show in Newport, KY? (This was about the distance I was from the stage)
I agree that it is sweet to see her rock the Flying V. Their drummer was a pretty interesting character. Overall, I was pretty impressed with their level of playing.
I can't wait to listen to the covers - that association of the two had never even crossed my mind!
Although I don't mind MMJ touring w/out an opener, I would love to see Grace and the guys open up for MMJ one of these times.
