I interviewed Bo Koster (super nice guy btw) back in September before the PHilly show and he said they had just finished mixing an EP and were going to release it in October when I asked him about the leftover songs from Evil Urges

I hope they release this soon...im cravin some new MMJ

I wish I could post the interview but there is kind of a funny story behind it....


so I found out I was going to interview Bo Koster like two days before the show, then I get an e-Mail at 1 the day of and say that they need me at the venue at 2:30. I get my shit together and take a real long cab there and find out that it is going to be a phone interview.

My phone died ten minutes in....i was so embaressed. I had to cut Bo off in the middle of a real insightful point and say I am sorry and good luck tongiht. He kind of laughed. He was a real nice guy, seemed real genuine and down to earth. One interesting question response he had was when I asked him what it was like to play many of the same songs every night like "one Big holiday"

"Its never hard to play that song" he replied quickly. "its like eating your favorite food everyday"

I ended up being at the wrong spot on Penn's Landing too and spent the next few hours there with nobody around thinking it was kind of strange

Wow, i can't remember the article/interview, but i remember JIM saying that many of the strongest songs going into the EU recording process were actually cut from the album.  I think he said that the band thought some of the songs were going to be "cornerstones," so this could be a fucking killer ep.  I love EU with all my heart, and that would blow my mind to hear songs that are possible even better, as far as standing alone.

i hope it's a collection of slow, dark and depressing songs called Evil Dirges.

If the songs are that good, even if they don't release the EP, we'll probably hear them on the next album. Remember that One Big Holiday and Just One Thing were cut from At Dawn.

geesh, if they are at the level of OBH and Just One Thing, they better wait for a full-length to release them, or on the other hand, i don't want to wait that long...ep of the year!

One thing I thought of was that they never released any singles or B-Sides for Evil Urges, which would make sense if they are saving the "other" recordings for an EP.  Just a thought.

What was that song "wonderful" i heard a few times? Goes "It feels so wonderful, wonderful. wonderful the way i feel.." Thought it was going to be on the EU album?? Maybe on this EP you speak of? And what's the skinny on Jim's new side project Sec walkin". I'm thinking not until after all this crazy touring will we get any new releases from them.

That song, "Wonderful (the Way I Feel) is yet unreleased.  However, it is rumored to be included on the new Monsters of Folk project.  

But as BH said, it's not unprecedented that they release new material without playing any of it live first.  It's happened as recently as the EU tour.

A lot of bands won't play new material until it's released; I don't think it's that strange...

That is definitely true.  Usually they would play new songs to promote the album... But, since this is an EP, maybe it's different??
