So now I just rewatched the Okonokos DVD, and I feel soooooooo good right now. Lately I've been a little bit depressed, but that just showed me just how sweet it could be.
It was the first CD from MMJ I bought, and I instantly fell in love with it. The day afterwards I bought the DVD, and I was amazed. There are very few bands that I enjoy listening to so much as My Morning Jacket.
And as I only owned Okonokos and Evil Urges until last monday, that was when I realized I had to buy all the other CDs too, I listen to them a lot on my ipod recently, and so many times I just got to stop, play that song again and ask myself how I made it without knowing that song, and I got yet another song on the neverending list of awesome MMJ-Songs.
Ps: I absolutely love the scene at 1:49:48 where that cute girl dances to Mahgeetah. I think this is as good as life gets, and I'm content.
PPS: I know some of you might think that this is a completely unnecessary wall of text, full of mistakes (english is not my first language), but honestly, I just had to give MMJ some love. :D
I feel the same way after watching that. I think I've actually watched okonokos at least 30 times, and still every time I watch it there is a sense that life is really good.
ha you remembered the exact time? what did you do, pause the dvd and write down the exact hour minute and second? yeah, it's beautiful especially in surround sound.
Man I agree with you 100 percent and I bet looooots of people round here do as well. When I first watched the Okonokos DVD i was shocked at how powerfully epic the MMJ live experience is. It's really a mystical experience and Okonokos shows this well. That old fashion'd butler looking dude and his llama get transported to an entire different world for the concert!!!
SWEEET!!! :D :D :D ;D
Is it just me or did it seem like the llama and the guy were about to get it on before discovering mmj in the forest? :(

i thought that was the point?
for what it's worth, i have a 5 year old TV and a 15 year old surround sound system. i don't know if i'm the only person who plans this shit out, but the moment i upgrade to high-def, Okonokos will be the first DVD I watch
I just watched it again a couple days ago. Anytime put me in a really good mood, and I had to watch O is the One That is Real about five times. Plus, llamas kick ass.
I hadn't listened to or watched Okonokos in over 6 months and then yesterday I found it on vinyl at my record store. :D Came home and listened to it and realized that I then needed to watch the DVD too. Absolutely love this live album! I'm going to listen and watch again tonight.
One of the best live music DVDs, the Bear Attack kinda freaks me out though, haha

Dude, if you watch the DVD on mute and start the vinyl at just the right time, they totally sync up. You gotta try it.
Got a friend who has a place with two of the video game chairs. Once we get things together, we plan on watching okonokos through them. Feel that shit!

NO WAY! That is just too cool. I am totally going to try this tonight. I would have never thought to try that. Thanks for letting me know. :)
'acoustic chorale' is even better!

You have to start it after the third roar of the llama.

Perfect! Thanks!
I'm so excited to try this out. I'm such a geek. ;D
Okonokos=Genius.

It sounds a bit creepy if you put it that way :)
we need another okonokos. a new live dvd . i don't know why anyone on their label or the band don't realize that.
I would love a DVD of othe NYE MSG show, the bootleg sounds great and I can only imagine the band's energy that evening. But I don't want it to be announced before, so I don't have to wait for it, but wake up one day, realizing that a new MMJ Dvd has been released and enjoy it.
With the recent increase of fame it could happen soon I think

I dont' think it'd be impossible to break ground as the band that releases concert footage for download instead of having to go through the effort of packaging and producing whole DVDs.
I still have the ACL show on the DVR and it is pretty badass! I am totally surprised at how great it is.
I only owned It Still Moves and Z when I first watched this, but I had to get At Dawn immediately because of XMas Curtain. I've probably watched this DVD more than any other live DVD that I own. I dig the drum solo in "Steam Engine". Killer.

Yea I agree Steam Engine is a killer track on that DVD/CD. MY favorite is "Run Thru" listen to that on vinyl and it's a whole different experience.
Oh shit ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!
Steam Engine was great at the Louisville show too. Didn't get the drum solo, but they made it rock a little more, although maybe that's because we were up front and the bass was like a full-on assault.
I gotta say that "Lowdown" might be my favorite on Okonokos. It was such a nice departure from the original version. It's MMJ at their tightest . . . .

I was up front for a show of theirs 2003 and it was super loud. Its always fun to see an MMJ show up front.
Finally bought this masterpiece the other day after having the CD for awhile. I'm hoping it will hold me over until I get to go to another show.
One thing I thought was funny was the look on the llama guy's face when he walked into the concert. He had that "whooaa i'm not sure whats going on but its awesome" look. Exactly how I felt at my first show haha.

I remember when I first heard that. I had pre-ordered the album and was working my first post-grad job in a call center recruiting real estate agents (the amount of bitches and blow that came with the prestige of that job was beyond my wildest dreams. Truly, it is the rockstar of post-grad jobs) and I took an extended lunch break to drive home knowing the package had came in that day, open it, and drive back listening to it.
I took a detour through the backroads of Northern NJ and I came around this one turn and almost drove off a cliff because my jaw had dropped during that sudden, unexpected explosion that kicks you in the balls at the beginning of the song.
A kick to the balls never felt so good.
The Okonokos Project is one of the best things I have ever heard.
