At first I thought this song was all about God. Then I realized, that this is Jim's song to our President, Mr. Obama. So it kinda is about God I guess...
I hope someone didn't already post something about this...
But yeah, listen to it again...it now means so much more to me.
It wasn't originally about Obama, but it is now.

No offense, but worst thread ever. Someone already mentioned this after the election. It was dumb then, and its dumb now. If you subscribe to the cult view of Barack Obama, then yeah, play this song while you are fantasizing about him, but let it be a sweet love song to or an ode to God for the rest of us.

worst thread ever? really?
You think Look at You being about Barack is that far-fetched? Jim obviously supports Barack, as witnessed by the fundraisers he played (or was going to play) in his honor. I linked an article that quotes Jim, saying "I was very moved by Mr. Obama's words, very moved."
Is that and all the lyrics about being a good citizen and leader just a coincidence?
I agree that people can find their own interpretations to songs, but if you really believe that, why does this guy's interpretation anger you so badly? Even if it is just a coincidence and Look at You really isn't about Barack, it is at least a reasonable interpretation of the lyrics and one that doesn't deserve ridicule.

Obama? REALLY?? lol..i thought that song was about me. This sucks. Happy Monday to me.
(but really, i could see jim getting inspired by BHO--well not so much him but the IDEA of him, nothing wrong w/that)
I always thought (and this is just my opinion) that it was a about Bush. And it was sarcasm, like "Look at you, such a fine example". It seemed sarcastic to me. Plus, we know that originally, it's probably not about Obama since it was written sometime prior to June of '08. Although I definately could be wrong about that. I think it has become a non sarcastic song about Obama. With what Jim said in the interview on Triple J radio, I think it kind of backs up my theory a bit, but definately does not prove it.

I always thought Gideon was about Bush and his raping of culture and religion to further his own goals.
Still, though I am, and always have been sick of the hero-worship of the O-man, blind hatred of something is just as ignorant as the blind allegiance.
Even if the song is about him, the beauty of it is that it's ambiguous and you can let it mean what you want it to mean. So, Penny, it's still about you. And it's still about Bush and it's still about Obama.
The only shitty political songs are the ones that are personal attacks on the person and wind up being dated within a month. That's why Dylan and Neil Young persist and the Dixie Chicks and Kanye are laughed at.
This makes me sick. Can we let Obama do something before we totally felate him? I understand the change thing, and it is pretty sweet, but this cultish mentality is a little unnerving.
Since we are throwing out crap about what look at you means, i guess i will play. I think look at you is talking about Bush's tranformation back into a regular citizen. You know, having bbq's, leading a homeowners association etc. I believe in his power to lead us to recycle pickups more than 2 times a month.
This is a music thread, right?
QuoteThis makes me sick. Can we let Obama do something before we totally felate him?
you have to
earn fellatio? Hhhmmmmmmm... ::)
"Let me follow...let me follow you..."
Whether or not Jim wrote it for Obama is moot. It is about Obama now. Not only because of the reasons aMD noted, but because two of the five shows I went to this year (Louisville and NYE) Jim mentioned how important the year is for voting and "We got a new president!" respectively before playing Look At You.
The song would have been about George W. Bush if he would have become Commissioner of Major League Baseball instead of President of the United States. Think about how wonderful our world would've been if that had happened. ;)
Holla!

You make good points. Jim doesn't get political very often, but when he does, it's almost always followed by Gideon or Look at You.
It's cool if that is what you think its about...I just don't think Jim wrote a song about a person who hadn't even declared his candidacy when the song was written. And to proclaim that the song is about Obama is just stupid. The guy has been president for a week, hasn't really accomplished much in his minimal time in Senate, and has 4 very difficult years ahead of him in which time he could fail. Point is, why would a song be written about a person who hasn't done anything? How has he proven himself as a find citizen? How is a he a glowing example of peace and glory? He is a good guy who has a good vision for his country...that's it. So until Jim comes out and says "this song is about Obama" I wouldn't post a thread about it. Again, it's cool that you have given meaning to the song, but don't ruin it for the rest of us.
Sorry about getting political....I want Obama to succeed but let's give the guy some time to actually DO SOMETHING before we proclaim him to be the equivalent of Jesus. I do realize that some people have elevated him to God status, and those people get pissy when anyone shows any kind of "wait and see" attitude, but come on people.
Different songs mean different things to different people. And the meaning of a song can change over time. Just because Jim didn't write Look at You originally about Obama doesn't mean it isn't dedicated to him now. If you hear a song and you recognize something in it, it is yours alone to keep as a reminder or a message or a life lesson. Gideon makes me happy, even though it is one of Jim's angriest songs. And I have the right to feel happy. Just as I have the right to hear happiness and hope in Gideon instead of desperation, DaFunkyPrecedent has the right to hear Obama in Look at You. As for what's in Jim's head, what makes you think you know better than anyone else? There's no way to know for sure. So you, with no proof at all, saying someone is "stupid" and completely wrong is absurd. You asshole.
QuoteIf you hear a song and you recognize something in it, it is yours alone to keep as a reminder or a message or a life lesson.
like when the Reagan people (and conservative talk radio hosts) adopted the great Springsteen protest song Born in in the USA as an anthem of conservatism rather than about the dishonorable way the veterans were treated after they returned from Vietnam (which is what it's about)?
like that?
I disagree

If that's what Born in the USA means to you, you have every right to think that. That being said, Bruce can tell you "please don't use my song that way".
Can't I go one day without hearing about this guy?? It's one thing to watch a news channel and see our new American Idol but, come on guys.. Jim wrote that song before summer.. It could be about Hillary for all we know... I just really don't like seeing politics mixed in with my favorite band.. I know I listen to that song a lot less becase of this forum.. Just let us have our own opinions...
QuoteCan't I go one day without hearing about this guy??
HE'S THE PRESIDENT. How many days out of the year did you go without hearing about Bush? And that final sentence is spot on. Everybody should just have their own opinions and we should leave it at that.

Again, I don't think it's "stupid" to say the song is about Obama. I agree with what most people have said, the song wasn't originally written for Obama but gained a new meaning during the election season, not only for some fans for perhaps for Jim himself. We know he likes Obama and that he has talked about the importance of voting at shows and then busted in Look at You.
However, you choose to ignore these facts and go into a rant about how Obama hasn't done anything yet. I'm not sure what you're point is, but I think you need to settle down, enjoy the music, and begin to realize that people who think differently than you aren't necessarily stupid.

If you don't think it's important, for whatever reason, then don't pay attention to it and stop whining to those who are actually concerned about our country and interested in its leader.

If you read what i said.. I didn't say anything about what he hasn't done... He's only been in office what a week.. I know i can't judge him by that... Yeah, we can get along. But I still think your viewpoints on Obama, at least the one's who've articulated here, are pretty ridiculous.
And again, I don't think it's this forum or this thread that changed the meaning of the song. But really what's the difference if the song is about him or not? We know Jim is an Obama supporter, you can either ignore that or move on. Would you walk out of an MMJ show if Jim said something about Obama. If so, I said fare thee well.
Sorry to get so heated, but I just can't stand people who know better and choose ignorance. You seem to be one of those people, at least in this thread.

Works both ways. Bill O'Reily insisted that Democrats support Bush because "he's our president" and "this is a time of war". You bet he's singing a different tune now, too.
If you wanna talk about double standards between parties, why was Clinton impeached and Bush not?
IMO, Bush still hasn't gotten all that's coming to him. He had tons of support from reps and dems after 9/11, the disrespect he received after that was a direct result of the screw-ups and flat-out frauds perpetrated against this country.
Well given the fact I didn't go see anymore shows this year when i found out they were donating to his campaign... I think i'd walk out.. As you can see politics greatly impact lives... and I go to a concert to hear music and escape that life... When i hear things like that it puts me right back out in the real world... The same reason I won't go see Pearl Jam anymore.. We don't need to know the bands political views.. BTW I will see MMJ many many more times.. I just pray he won't rant about politics in any way...
I think Obama has moved pretty swiftly in his "one week in office." The problem is that he's only been in office for one week. It takes a long time to reverse someone else's mistakes.
Our country fell off the stage a while ago at the end of a bad ass guittar solo and suffered severe injuries to the torso, to the balls area, and to the mind area. It is going to take a little time to get our strength back to the rockingset country in the world. We have to get our finances in order (torso), we have to get our balls back in order (military) and we have to have every American citizen behind our new leader (who, by the way doesn't seem to have a personal agenda-the terms liberal and conservative are no longer important to point out) and help ourselves step it up (mind). I know that once again, I am patriotic. I know that I feel optimistic again. And I think that every individual on this forum, and in this country feels the same way...some are just standing behind a position and refuse to admit it...because they can. That's fine.
We have clearly stated that most likely Look At You was not written about Obama. But is often interpreted that way these days, because of the spirit he has and the spirit he produces around him. Jim is the only person who knows who that song is about. But fuck you for saying people treat Obama like God. People say that Jim is God. People said that Garcia was God. Let me tell you something... he was elected because WE (America) feel like he is the most capable person for this position. He is a savior to some people and to some people, he will never be able to do enough. But to others...he is more important than Jesus. Because really...really...has any of us heard Jesus give a speech...or heard Jesus say that he would try his hardest to change the path we are on? I haven't, either.
PS-I know, I know...I never gotta fight with you.

yeah, screw all this. mmj is the best band ever, and i have a new favorite pastime- drinking firefly vodka while going through the whole catalog.
Quotei could give a shit if he was "impeached", remove him from office or what is the point?
The point is he was impeached (only the 2nd President to ever be brought to trial while in office) and Bush wasn't. What Bush has done was way worse than what Clinton did. This seems like an obvious double standard. Get it?

Jim is the only person who knows who that song is about. But fuck you for saying people treat Obama like God. People say that Jim is God. People said that Garcia was God. Let me tell you something... he was elected because WE (America) feel like he is the most capable person for this position. He is a savior to some people and to some people, he will never be able to do enough. But to others...he is more important than Jesus. Because really...really...has any of us heard Jesus give a speech...or heard Jesus say that he would try his hardest to change the path we are on? I haven't, either.
PS-I know, I know...I never gotta fight with you.
Great post, LD. Aside from all the pork in this stimulus package, he's tried to act pragmatically so far. I think pretty much all this appointments have been pretty good (even i didn't see that coming w/Richardson) I think a lot of obama supporters are in love w/obama himself, but the majority are in love w/the idea of what he could mean and how he could unite *instead of divide* he is working for the good of everyone, not just half the country who believes what he does. He's come to the middle on a few issues already and stuck to his guns on a few (guantanamo)...sorry to turn this into political discussion--
(but dudley, a lot of us were/are skeptical about a super lib being elected, if you haven't seen past that by now, not sure what it would take to convince you)
yeah, I'm ready to stop arguing, too. you first.
The point is he was impeached (only the 2nd President to ever be brought to trial while in office) and Bush wasn't. What Bush has done was way worse than what Clinton did. This seems like an obvious double standard. Get it?
yeah, i get it. clinton started the subprime mess, and bush didnt lie under oath like clinton. looks like they both suck. get it?

Nope, still don't get it. If they both suck in the same way, it would stand to reason that they would either both be impeached or both not, but there both weren't. Clinton was impeached and Bush was not. That's not fair. It's a double standard. Now do you get it?
Jim's aunt explained to crazylove in Louisville during the song it is about the passing of his grandmother which would have been her mother. Crazy comforted her as she sobbed during the song. Simple.
Penny not quite sure what that means.. But with him shutting down G-mo already he continues to scare me.. We'll see though.. I know I can't do anything else now but pray at night.. and hope this world will stop hating on us Americans.. But that doesn't look so good..

Yeah, I'm done. Thanks for the insight and level head, TEO.
no double standard, bush never lied under oath. that is not saying one is worse than the other, but when you lie under oath as the president, that tends to hold more water in the government's eyes than a Rolling Stone poll on how much of a terrorist bush is. pretty cut and dry. so, no, i will never get it. i tend not to get things that make zero sense.
lets end this shit. you live in awesometown, and so do i.

impeachment is such a big political/judicial issue too; Clinton lied under oath and while Bush did something much worse (leading a nation into a military conflict based on false or little info) it's more grey area in legalities. i think kucinich had the lead on this a while back but i haven't followed it for a while. It would be YEARS of subpoenas and testimony and there would probably never be an impeachment. I can't see it passing in both houses (or does it have to? can't remember but i think so) thanks for the info TEO. we could have used the answer 8 hours ago LOL..

no but i give you some court cases (see Hamdi v. Rumsfeld for starters) of detainees being locked away from 3 or 4 years (german citizen) w/no charges brought, no evidence. not everyone at guantanamo was captured on a battlefield w/an assault rifle aimed at an american soldier...you should definitely try to find some 'documentation' because it's all out there. i'm not denying that most at guantanmo are terrorist scum, anyone w/common sense might admit that. BUT lots of innocent civilians kept w/no charges and no legal trial (other than jack nicholson from a few good men telling them to give up their secrets)

I wasn't saying Gitmo killed any of its inmates. I was saying that it seems like you'd rather they be killed than given a fair trial if it's a decision between the two. That you'd trade liberty away due to some irrational fear that the jailed terrorists are going to come get you. It amuses me that you call them cowards and act like you are something else. They deserve a fair trial. The Nazis got one, not because anybody liked Nazis, but because of the idea that every person accused of a crime should have a chance, if they wish, to defend themselves. Not to mention whatever innocent people at being held there. I edited it because, while we haven't killed our prisoners, as you said, we have sacrified our ideals and slandered liberty already. I thought the new way sounded a little less angry. But, now you've made me say the angry things anyway. Damn.

I'm still not sure whether or not Clinton should have been asked a question to which he had to lie about in the first place. And I don't particularly like the man, either.
We also don't have a Bush or Clinton as President, which is nice.
If anything, just remember this: Hype around a president is nothing new, it's just that 95% of this forum has probably only known (conscious) life during a Bush or Clinton-era presidency (maybe a few of us were old enough to actually know what it was like under Reagan, but to me the Reagan years were full of Legos and Play-doh). I'd imagine the hype around Obama is similar to that of JFK, Ike, or maybe even the Ray-gun.
Either way, a song that means different things to different listeners succeeds quite well on a certain level, and as a result, to me this song is about my lovely beyonce and will be played at our wedding without an Obama in sight.

what's worse-- lying about a blowjob or starting an unnecessary war and losing the lives of 4000 soldiers before finishing the one that actually could have, if it's even winnable, made the world a better place. the economy... when Clinton left office there wasn't a federal deficit, in fact, there was a surplus. when Shrub left office, the deficit was over 10 trillion, that's $10,000,000,000,000 in the negative. job well done!

you don't think getting a BJ from a younger woman whom you're not married to isn't a mommy/daddy issue? Presidents are mortals, they all have mommy/daddy issues. (trust me, I have had plenty of discussions about why the most powerful person on the planet would put his job at risk for a BJ; there's some deep seeded issues there).
Clinton never got kicked out of office, and that to me is a real impeachment. i dont give a shit about some toothless impeachment vote that resulted in nothing but a headline for 2 days. Yes, bush started a stupid ass war. but clinton started the mess we are in today. without him passing the CRA in 1999 along with another lending bill, we would have not given loans to people who didnt qualify, leading to this mess.
You can't blame one guy for the problems of the world or the country. We all did it together, and have been doing it ever since the end of WWII.
And as for the song being about Obama or Bush or God or whatever.... I can bet that not even Jim had one specific person in mind for that song, but more many people in his life, or maybe all people. And most of the time, I end up speaking more about myself than anything else, which is everything else anyway because me is you.

But I sincerely fear for the future of our country in the hands of someone as politically liberal as him. He has just managed to DOUBLE the size of our federal government within his first month and a half of office.

Here, a magazine devoted to anti-consumerism, loaded with ads for Scion, Nissan, etc, is marketing a brand of POLITICS as images designed to sell you on the idea that there is a counter-culture revolution in the image of Obama and the label "Generation-O".

If everyone can remember that we are all humans, it doesn't matter what you believe in. We should all believe in HUMANS, how we can all survive (if it throught the greater good or not)!

I agree, we don't know. However, people
are hiring outside the US government; that's another unsubstantiated comment that only leads to fear and panic. Check out the want ads, people are hiring.
People are starting new businesses. Is it with the unchecked fervor of the past 10 years? No. Are we getting to a place in America where we
don't need a Starbucks located across the street from a Starbucks or 3 Shell gas stations with a 1/4 mile radius or 7 Walgreens in 1 zip code? I hope so.
However, I do know that making silly statements like "Obama has DOUBLED the size of our federal government in a month and a half" is 1 step short of thinking.
In fact, there's more legitmacy in the idea that Obama is God; no one can prove that he isn't God, right? But it's a fact that Obama has
NOT DOUBLED the size of our federal government in a month and a half.

most presidents do not have a grasp of economics (i think clinton and a few others the exception) even mccain admitted while running that he was weak in economics---congress is full of people who understand ZERO about economics/history or the way wall street was run; this is the norm
tracy, i don't think saying that the govt is the only one hiring is a scary thing to say. it's realistic. most companies are downsizing even if the company is doing well. companies w/surplus are not hiring because of fear of the unknown. law firms and financial firms aren't hiring, not even taking new associates; there are no manuf jobs aside from hard machinery (possibly), service sector is cutting back (as your starbucks jobs are going along w/a ton of others) employment rate going up to 12% by year's end. the fed govt has created a ton of new jobs; how marketable is a middle-aged middle manager coming from a GM plant going to be even if there are service jobs? just wondering where all the private sector jobs are. perhaps i am missing something.

people are hiring. It's a fact, check it out yourself. I am currently looking for part time work and put in a resume yesterday for a NON GOVERNMENT job.

well, I just saw a piece of FoxNews showing a job fair in New York City with 92 perspective employers hiring for over 1,000 positions.
Look, all I am doing is debunking the myth that NO ONE but the federal government is hiring. The Republicans want you to think that so they can frown on big government and the Libs want you to think that b/c they like more government.

Well, it's 1,000 times greater than 1, and either infinitely or indeterminately greater than none, depending on who you ask. ;)
But yeah, job fairs right now with hiring employers are a great thing...

also, just got this email from my friend who attended the job fair at Grand Central yesterday:
I even waited 2 hours in the freezing cold not too long ago for a job fair that over 5,000 people attended & generally they told everyone to just go online to their website. (copied and pasted word for word)

WASHINGTON (AP) - Attorney General Eric Holder signaled a change on medical marijuana policy Wednesday, saying federal agents will target marijuana distributors only when they violate both federal and state law.
That would be a departure from the Bush administration, which targeted medical marijuana dispensaries in California even if they complied with that state's law.
"The policy is to go after those people who violate both federal and state law," Holder said in a question-and-answer session with reporters at the Justice Department.
Medical marijuana advocates in California welcomed the news, but said they still worried about the pending cases of those already in court on drug charges.
California law permits the sale of marijuana for medical purposes, though it still is against federal law.
Holder did not spell out exactly who no longer would face the prospect of raids by the Drug Enforcement Administration. But he was quick to add that law enforcement officers will target anyone who tries to "use medical marijuana laws as a shield" for other illegal activity.
"Given the limited resources that we have, our focus will be on people, organizations that are growing, cultivating substantial amounts of marijuana and doing so in a way that's inconsistent with federal and state law," the attorney general said.
Advocates and government officials had been waiting since President Barack Obama was sworn into office for a clear signal on what the new president's drug policy would be toward medical marijuana. As a candidate, he repeatedly promised a change in policy in situations in which state laws allow the use of medical marijuana.
Yet shortly after Obama took office, DEA agents raided four dispensaries in Los Angeles, prompting confusion about the government's plans.
Thirteen states have laws permitting medicinal use of marijuana. California is unique among them for the presence of dispensaries, which are businesses that sell marijuana and even advertise their services. Legal under California law, such dispensaries are still illegal under federal law.
Kris Hermes, a spokesman for national medical marijuana advocacy group Americans for Safe Access, said he welcomed Holder's perspective.
"It signals a new direction and a more reasonable and sensible direction on medical marijuana policy," he said.
Still, Hermes said his Oakland-based organization was concerned about the fate of more than two dozen California medical marijuana cases currently pending in federal court.
"There remains a big question as to what the federal government's position is on those cases," Hermes said. He pointed specifically to the case of Charles Lynch, who was federally convicted for running a medical marijuana dispensary collective in San Luis Obispo County last year.
Hermes said Lynch could face decades in prison when he is sentenced Monday even though his clinic had been compliant with state law.

hurry
damn, I didn't know this thread would raise such controversy!
The whole Look At You = Obama thing all hit me NYE at MSG when Jim said something political in the most unpolitical way like "it's 2009 and there's a great change in the air" or something like that and then went into Look At You. It makes all too much sense...every lyric is dead on and IT IS a perfect song for the common man to attach themselves to a leader. At that moment, when he sang Look At You, I felt so proud to be an American.
Hey, if you dont wanna hear about Obama, come visit me in India! I haven't picked up a paper in 3 months. Whats going on in the States anyway? The only time I hear Obama, is when I tell someone Im from the USA (which I can now say with pride) and they smile ear to ear and say "Obama, Good man, very good man". And I always say, "yeah, he's a good friend of mine". But thats about as much Obama hearsay I get...sorry for all the others who feel plagued because they feel forced to hear about such a great person everyday. Me, I have never been so proud to say a name before.
One last thing: it's okay if songs are about things. People write because they are influanced by people, places and things. In the case of the song "Ohio" CSNY were influanced by the Kent State Masacare, in this case, Jim James was influanced by Barack Obama. He's not the only one to write a song about the guy...shit, tons of songs about Bush (good and bad) came out too. I just happen to love My Morning Jacket and love the fact that Jim wrote a song about someone who I feel a very deep connection to aswell. Makes me feel good about being so into this band...like im doing something right.
"we believe, in your power to lead with out fear. Not above, not some tower, but here, right down here with us."
hope all is well in States guys. Much much love! I wish all of you all the best.

Jim could have reworked the song...and in the end, the listener determines a song's personal meaning...but keep in mind that this was first performed at the Rud acoustic show, a good deal of time before Obama announced his campaign.
Just putting it out there. ;)

he's got the most difficult job of anyone ever to come into office--give him a break---it's not his fault millions of idiots think he's a savior when he's just a politician? yeah he's made some mistakes in some of his appointments; he's trying to tackle green issues, middle east (extending a hand to Iran) and adding more troops to afghan (which he said he was gonna do); he said he was going to tax the rich and he has, he said he'd bail out the autos and he has, he wanted to pass the stimulus and he has (although more to come), he's always said he planned on closing guantanamo w/in a year; he's reversed the ban on stem cell research (or at least started the process), now this week he's at the G-20 which is huge. give him a break, it's been 3 months. he promised more bipartisanship and delivered somewhat..i mean he still needs to get more stiumulus passed so he can't abandon all his weapons to use on congress. i DO, however, think he needs to focus more on the financial crisis more in the next few months but that's my only beef with him. you can't fault him because expectations were so high. people put him up there because he gives hope to people---not of his own doing. in spite of all his criticisms, i think he's done a good job so far.

Your first mistake is thinking he has any power what so ever. This country has not had a real president since JFK. And look what happened when he tried to take the country back for the people...
Follow the shadow government or die, is pretty much what every president has to deal with now. They are all backed by the same money. It doesn't matter if you're a dem or part of the GOP, they are working towards the same goal. They put on this public facade that they hate each other, but behind the scenes they are all friends working toward a common goal: global economic domination.
The New World Order is forming as we speak. Soon we will have global currency and a global gov't resembling 1984.
Did you know Obama has already authorized PC searches without cause or a warrant. If that's not 1984 I don't know what it!
We are all slaves to the central bank. You, me, Mickey Reds, Jim James, pretty much anybody. Do not buy into the hype that Obama is looking out for you. He is looking out for the interests of a limited number of people who have complete control over the central banking system. Until the Federal Reserve is disbanded, we will never know true freedom.

Actually right now more than ever, BO and the admin's handling of the economic crisis is the most important thing nationally and globally, especially this week. So yes, that is power.
JFK was the last real president? based on what? Joe Kennedy bought his son's presidency--politics was just as shady back then. it's hypocritical to buy into JFK and not BO.
1984 isn't coming but you're not far off to say that things are already put in place for a new world order (if by that you mean china taking over as the world's economic superpower in 10 years; or the earth not being able to sustain our population growth past the next 50) this has nothing to do w/Obama.

I'm talking about a global government controlled by a few elite. It's already begun with the North American Union, European Union, and the Africa Union. Soon there will an Asian union.
In 2005 Bush signed an agreement in secret to remove the boarders between Canada, the US and Mexico. All money will soon be the Amero. Obama is just another "face" in front of what is really going on. Don't get it wrong, he's part of the agenda.

he's got the most difficult job of anyone ever to come into office--give him a break---it's not his fault millions of idiots think he's a savior when he's just a politician? yeah he's made some mistakes in some of his appointments; he's trying to tackle green issues, middle east (extending a hand to Iran) and adding more troops to afghan (which he said he was gonna do); he said he was going to tax the rich and he has, he said he'd bail out the autos and he has, he wanted to pass the stimulus and he has (although more to come), he's always said he planned on closing guantanamo w/in a year; he's reversed the ban on stem cell research (or at least started the process), now this week he's at the G-20 which is huge. give him a break, it's been 3 months. he promised more bipartisanship and delivered somewhat..i mean he still needs to get more stiumulus passed so he can't abandon all his weapons to use on congress. i DO, however, think he needs to focus more on the financial crisis more in the next few months but that's my only beef with him. you can't fault him because expectations were so high. people put him up there because he gives hope to people---not of his own doing. in spite of all his criticisms, i think he's done a good job so far.
None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free. - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
I love canada!

Awesome video, Tracy. I'd never seen that before. It's obvious he has a sense of humor...and knows when to use it.
You mean his writers have a sense of humor.
QuoteYou mean his writers have a sense of humor.
No, Obama has a sense of humor; otherwise, he would not have participated.

Exactly, Tracy. Also, did you notice how SNL is having a really hard time making fun of him? I mean there is just little they can do beCAUSE he's self depracating and he's just a really smooth, naturally suave guy. i knew him winning the election would affect comedy; palin/GWB/gore/clinton-we had it made for a long time.
