I didn't see this topic posted anywhere, but I'm just curious to see other fans' opinions....who knows....maybe the band will see this thread one day fulfill one of our requests.
The first song I'd like to see may seem rather odd, but it prompted the idea for this thread. For some reason I was listening to Knights of Cydonia by Muse and all I could picture is MMJ rocking out to it.
Others that may be cool:
Crazy - Gnarls Barkley
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John (Rocket Man is my favorite cover...I'd be interested to see what Jim James could do with another Elton Song...maybe even try 'My Father's Gun')
Any Led Zepplin song...maybe 'Ten Years Gone'
Into the Mystic - Van Morrison (Maybe Carl could break out the sax)
I've Been Loving You Too Long - Otis Redding
I'd kill for any song from Pink Floyd's Obscured By Clouds.
I would love to hear a Shining Star....Honey, you are my shining star
Don't you go away...
Wow :D
I know this exists somewhere, because I know I'd love to see them cover Zappa's Montana

jim needs to do more marvin gaye.
Quotejim needs to do more marvin gaye.
Surprised he hasn't already.
I used to be great at this thread, now I realize that Jim makes better choices than I do. ;)
Thanks Ruckus.
I thought some thread had to be started on this subject, but I couldn't find it. I saw a lot of interesting suggestions.
....Definitely agree that ultimately Jim makes the best decisions. I always am very cautious when I state that a certain cover is better than the original, but I feel Jim has achieved that feat a couple of times....he knows what he can do! Case in point 'Hot Burrito #1' by Flying Burrito Bros. (IMHO).
Superstition- Stevie Wonder
Emotional Rescue by the Rolling Stones!
Sea and Sand by The Who. That would blow my mind.
That and Exile on Main St. in its entirety.
Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder
QuoteSea and Sand by The Who. That would blow my mind.
My favorite song.
By my favorite "classic rock" band
being covered by my favorite band.....
I would explode.
I almost couldn't handle the awesomeness of A Quick One...
I wonder if they could pull off Bohemian Rhapsody? I bet they could.
QuoteI wonder if they could pull off Bohemian Rhapsody? I bet they could.
I think that'd be fun. Carl could do his Highly Suspicious voice for the duet section.

they did cover A Quick One with Eddie Vedder live, it's on youtube :D
I was thinking something by Paul Simon. Maybe "Me and Julio Down By The Schoolyard" or "Kodachrome".

I never got to see them cover Quick One and I fear they will never bust it out again. Sigh, I wish I was at Roo '06
I loved hearing Eddie do It Makes No Difference with them, but I'm still disappointed that they saved A Quick One for Europe. That would have been one of the highlights of my life.
I think almost any Dinosaur Jr song would be fun fodder for the MMJ treatment.
QuoteI was thinking something by Paul Simon. Maybe "Me and Julio Down By The Schoolyard" or "Kodachrome".
I'd like to hear Graceland or Slip Slidin' Away.
Helpless-Neil Young
shut the funk up by the bar-kays
they need to cover "What's Goin On" by Marvin Gaye in it's entirety.
also, they need to rip of up some zeppelin.

Let me regale you of a story, a story about a boy on mushrooms who lost his head during the sudden shift into "Head Held High" and peaked during the "You Are Forgiven" explosion, and mellowed out at the It's About Twilight Now/It Makes No Difference.
I can honestly say it was one of the greatest nights of my life. The music, the weather, the atmosphere, the people all came together at exactly the right moment. The middle of xmas curtain is when my fiance confessed her love for me for the first time.
With that said, I'd like them to cover This Must Be the Place

i think i have a problem. since stumbling across this thread - every song i hear i think to myself 'yeah, they'd totally KILL this'. am i getting too carried away? (rhetorical, please) but i can't resist - these gems came to light today:
would i lie to you? - eurythmics
fame - bowie
fade into you - mazzy star
strange brew - cream
and because i'm an unsuccessful closet dead head:
mr. charlie (jj channeling pigpen = heaven)
shakedown street (disco dead)
scarlet begonias (i could die a happy gal - it's my fave)
i cannot tell a lie, this prob won't be my last post on this thread :D

have a cigar would be so cool. although right now i'm hearing the primus cover in my head. which isn't a bad thing at all. crazy bass line in that song.

Oh, oh, oh...I got it. Jim would make a perfect Reverend Maynard for Disgustipated. THESE ARE THE CRIES OF THE CARROTS!
There are so many songs that I'd love to hear MMJ cover, many of them being Neil Young and Curtis Mayfield tunes. That being said, there is one song that I'd kill to hear them do:
Voyage To Atlantis - The Isley Brothers
Them doing all the little Ernie Isley guitar solos plus Jim putting the reverb treatment on all of those Ronald Isley parts would be the cover to end all covers.
I know that William DeVaughn's "Be thankful for what you got" is one of Jim's favorite songs but have they ever covered it?

in light of the tpathb gigs:

also, it'd be dreamy to hear:
the mighty quinn (quinn, the eskimo) jim lead vocals w/ tpath backup
and the cherry on top:
you aint goin nowhere - jj & tp acoustic
I was listening to my ipod when lay lady lay came on my shuffle... they would play that so so well. Plus it almost sounds like jim singing it already.
