Well that's just about the coolest fucking thing i've seen all year. MMJ really never cease to amaze me....and you see the rest of this lineup :o wow.
Well, how cool is this? This takes me back to the days of being read The Giving Tree, Where The Sidewalk Ends, and A Light In The Attic when I was a wee biddy sprout.
Wait, Billy Bob Thornton's band is called The Boxmasters? I wonder if he realizes that that name could be taken out of context.
"Let's double back for a second here — this tribute album has inspired what is basically a new Pixies recording. Can we just reflect on this fact?"
I'll be reflecting all day.
Finally! I've been waiting forever for this. Awesome that Bobby Bare Jr. is doing "Daddy What If" with his daughter just like he did it with his dad when he was five.
Silverstein penned other songs for Bare including a Grammy-nominated hit, "Daddy What If," which he recorded with his five year old son, Bobby Bare, Jr. The song was an immediate success as well not only reaching #2 on the country charts but nearly reaching the Top 40 on the Pop charts.
When is this being released? and can I hear any of it online? I'm so excited! :D

The article says that it "will hit shelves" June 8.
The previews are sweet. Twangy ol' Jacket and some excellent pedal steel by the Bramble. Very cool, thanks for posting, manic! :)

SWEET!
hell yea, really digging the tune!
Nice country classic! I think that may be BBJ singing back up?
Very nice...I wonder if they'll bust it out on tour...
I've been excited about this one for a while now I'm busting! MMJ also plays backup on Bobby Bare Sr's track. It's awesome that they're al over this thing. And yes, the 26 Second Song is just that, but it'll be cool.
wow - great song.
so they are on this tribute, when does the muppet album come out?!
Listening right now.
I can't wait for this, it sounds so good.
MMJ is like the Donnie and Marie show- a little bit country (such as with these excellent S.S. tracks) and a little bit rock and roll (well, maybe more than a "little bit"). Is that reference a little too dated for the forum?

i think you're okay with that reference!

That's a fine question; where is that Muppet album, anyway?

Yesterday I was reminded of the same thing; It's called Muppets Revisited and all I could find is that it's going to be released sometime this year....
BUMP
Seriously, with all the Chekov drama and live show chaos, we're pretty much neglecting the coolest thing to happen all year: that pure, classic MMJ sound + the lyrics of Shel Silverstein. What a damn pretty song.

Just listened to 26 Second Song on that cd you gave me Dylan! This shit is awesome. Thank you so much.
Being unfamiliar with most of the songs and not having a track list, is Lullabies, Legends and Lies on the comp you gave me by chance?
Also, here's to The Winner for some of the best lyrics of all time. [smiley=beer.gif]

No, it's not. I'm unfamiliar with that song. He's got a huge catalogue and most of it is difficult to come by. I'm glad you're enjoying the disc!
SHEL is a A LEGEND!

There are some really cool videos on this amazon page with Bobby Bare Sr and Jr discussing a few of the tracks. One of them is for MMJ. Look at the lower right hand side.

Nice find..."Jim James showed up with no lyrics, he had it all memorized."

Great videos. Thanks BH.
How great is this album!?! Anyone who hasn't gotten it yet needs to now!
Yup, agree. Just got a copy Monday and can't stop listening. Funny, Angel and I just watched Crazy Heart Sunday. Don't bother with that movie, we thought it sucked. Kinda got me in the mood to listen to some country though.
MMJ tunes are so sweet. The 26 second song cracks me up listening to JJ laughing. Too bad it's not 26 Minute Song! :)
I think I've actually mentioned this album in two other posts. Very fun, a great lineup of artists, and MMJ bookends! Definitely check it out.
A vinyl release of this for the upcoming RSD Black Friday:

I never knew this even existed. This is great!
