On my computer. Looking forward to listening to this.
anyone have any idea what this album sounds like? i am sure I will buy it anyways, but i am curious.
Quoteanyone have any idea what this album sounds like? i am sure I will buy it anyways, but i am curious.
So far so good. It's Carl. Have you heard any of his other solo stuff.
First track, instrumental. Second is a straight forward country folk ditty
I don't know what else I can tell ya.
QuoteOn my computer. Looking forward to listening to this.
Did you get the bonus tracks? My download did not have them, and a couple tracks were out of order. I think there was an issue. I sent an e-mail to topspin.

Yeah, though I haven't gotten to them yet. How many were there again? I got 2 bonus tracks
I got 11 tracks plus two bonus
Ahh, you are correct BH. I'm missing tracks five and six plus at least a bunus track I believe
QuoteAhh, you are correct BH. I'm missing tracks five and six plus at least a bunus track I believe
Ahh, I see now BH. Enough and Heaven knows weren't numbered but I got them. I didn't get any of the three bonus tracks.
I ordered the whole shebang about 5 seconds after getting the email, and STILL haven't gotten any emails or anything telling me how to download the goods. ARGH :-/

There's a link that you should have been able to hit. I got a zip file with the album with a follow up email. Maybe they are fixing the issue right now after BH emailed them or something. I downloaded mine two hours ago I think.
Yeah, there was a link for me no e-mail. Crispy the link was on the page right after the order was confirmed.

In which I missed the link and immediately closed. Grrrr. Thanks for the info, though, we'll see if customer support can help me out.

Let me know if not.
I downloaded through the link fine (although ALMOST closed out before it caught my eye) but got none of the bonus tracks.
Weird stuff. Customer support set me up with a link to a zip file calling itself "All Birds Say Deluxe Edition.zip", but also no bonus tracks.
The guy at topspin has been very helpful. This is the latest correspondence....
[size=14]After digging into the matter, we've determined that all 11 album tracks WERE included -- the file names just didn't have the track numbers. Enough and To No One are tracks 5 and 6 from the album.
The bonus tracks that were to be included are missing, so we're working with the artist to make sure these get to fans.
Thanks for your patience,

Thanks for looking into it. I hadn't checked out the zip file yet. Looking forward to it once I get my monkeys to bed.
I've only listened to it once, but I really like it. I will have to listen to it a few more time before I can tell to what degree I like the album.
How do we get the download of the extra videos and footage from the deluxe edition?
check your email if you didn't get the bonus tracks - got an email resolving it this am....
Finally just finished the album. Beautiful. I guess it's not something that's going to blow most people away on first listen but this one is definately going to be a grower. Can't wait to listen outside on a nice day. All kinds of wonderful sounds in this one.
Retired is an early favorite. It sounds like this to me:

Retired is awesome. Nice pic to go with it. There is a live version from the Spin Indy bootleg. It used to be listed as Return but they seem to have changed it.

i'm pretty sure these will get released at the same time as the physical release.
it's a pretty enjoyable listen. the music is really good, some of the lyrics however are kinda goofy, borderline embarassing. had trouble finishing the different people song (forget the title) because of how annoying the chorus and lyrics were...but overall it's pretty good. i love the song "carried away" which i had the privelage of hearing live at merriweather in the spring.
embarrassing for who?
Waiting for my super creamy deluxe version to show up in my mailbox (or driveway depending on the delivery method..)
i am a tech idiot- if i download the album, can i move it to itunes somehow?

I listened to the album in the car with my wife, and about halfway through she said "is this a children's album?" which made me wince.
I think I do like "Lose What's Left" a bit better than "All Birds Say". It has more upbeat energy. ABS is very mellow. I could see what Mrs. mahg33ta is saying.
This album deserves multiple listens. I've listened to it 3 or 4 times and it blends into the background. I'm always in my car, too, which might affect the experience. I'm listening to it now, as I write this, so it is a more focused experience.
Someone remarked on some of the lyrics being "embarassing", or something to that effect. I guess every album has a few awkward tunes (Two Halves, anyone?). They may grow on you, or you can hit "Skip".
I find ABS emminently listenable. The instrumentation is fantastic; we all knew Carl was talented. I'm digging it.
I also totally respect that he's making music that is not necessarily going to fit the tastes of My Morning Jacket fans. That takes BALLS, as it could hurt sales. You listen to this gentle album, then watch him rock out on stage w/MMJ. "There's a lot of different people in the world."

Nice...Looking forward to the Carl gift pack to arrive. Signed vinyl and a way too small t-shirt. ;D
I know the live versions of Carried Away and Enough had already been posted so here's Questions too:

Nice! I'm loving this album. It makes me feel happy.
Carl's gone all Andrew Birdy on us! Love the looping on this version and the freakout at the end! Can someone make an mp3 of this? VIMEO videos always play choppy for me or I would do it myself.

I'll try when I get home, unless someone beats me to it.
I got my collector's edition of All Birds Say today! #1 of 250! Nice package; too bad I don't own a turntable.

Yup just got mine today also. A nice surprise. First class job with the packaging. Johnny, it's not # 1. Mine says "This is 1 of an edition of 250". I thought I got the first one also.
Just a side, if you don't have this and there are still some left, do yourself a BIG favor and order it!

I can't wait to get mine. I ordered it the day it was put up on the site too though I imagine it may take a while to get here.
Definitely a nice treat to find this in my mailbox today. I completely agree with everyone that the packaging was very well done. I'm rocking my smextra smedium tshirt right now. This form fitting shirt is not flattering on my man breasts. :-/ ;D.
It's one of those I wanna play the record but I hate messing with signed stuff deals.
i forgot to order this a few months back and I was just gonna order the regular vinyl and cd a second ago but the limited edition is still not sold out so what the heck...might as well

Thanks for the link to the interview. I enjoyed that, Carl is really soft spoken. Enjoying the record very much as well. Way to go Carl.
Anyone else familiar with Marc Mulcahy or whatever his last name is from Polaris?

to my astonishment my vinyl came today!! it only took three days to get here from the time i ordered it. i definitely know why he mentioned the vinyl in the lightning 100 interview yesterday. it sounds great!! the shirt is awesome too and mine fits great!! i debated for a while about leaving it alone and not playing it but i eventually caved...it was a good decision
this is perfect lazy sunday morning music......loving this right now !! can't wait to lounge out at joe's pub and enjoy these tunes live.

Would love to hear the vinyl, but settled for electronic. We have 2 turntables in the basement but sadly alone and untouched they sit :) some day when I get thru all of the other projects in my house!
I just realized that I got 2 CDs with the deluxe package, the packaged cd and one with the vinyl.

I've gave this album two hard listens today and I chuckled remembering you writing something before about it, quoted above. Isn't that great? ;D You can dig it and play it for the kiddies. The album has grown on me a bunch. There is such a purity and naivete about it that I think/hope will translate well in the intimate setting that will be Joe's.

On a similar note, I picked up my 2 year old Lauren from daycare last week. One of her teachers said Lauren had been singing a song all day and no one could figure out what it was. When they asked her, she said something like Seem Binsen.
On the drive home, I asked her to sing me the song. I almost drove off the road! I tried to record it later at home, but she wouldn't stop playing with the pop filter.
It sounded something like this...
"So, I do beeve none is fisicoo not me.
Its not da deets! make you week! Not da night! Make you seep!"
It goes on! I am so happy everytime she does it, and only 2!!! If I can get her to let me record it without messing with the mic, I'll post it.
i really like this album. listened to it on repeat one night & it's just so pleasant sounding. i seem to quietly sing and hum "questions" to myself randomly, so i suppose that's my favorite, for now.
re: "different people" - from carl's website (and the liner notes): "written by earl lett (beantown music BMI) additional lyrics by carl broemel" so, maybe earl lett wrote the ,err, embarassing ones???
http://carlbroemel.com/web/lyrics/
my lithograph info also reads "This is 1 of an Edition of 250" & until i read thru these other posts, i really thought mine was #1 of 250. when i opened it i thought "geez, i didn't think i was that quick on the draw". hahaha!
I really enjoy this record a lot. Was taken with it on the first listen.
The comments about it being good for kids amuses me. I often comment that Brian Wilson's SMiLE is The Wiggles for grown ups, so at least All Birds Say is in good company!

Different People is the only song on the album I dislike. Probably the only skipper in my MMJ/Carl/MOF collection. Just bothers me for some reason, AND then goes on a few minutes too long. But I'll be singin' along Wed night anyway ;)
I find the album to be a quintessential grower, a little dearer with each pass. I talked to Carl for an upcoming interview and the whole thing seemed to come as a happy surprise to him. It feels fresh in that way even without knowing that.
i may becoming a little obsessed with this record. Maybe its because its getting warmer here the mood of this records seems to fit with Spring so well. Very close to being my favorite record this year...

It's so confusing when you upside-down people talk about Spring coming... ;)
Such a damn good record.
I've been putting it in the rotation on like every fourth album, can't get enough.
Carl! Caw! Carl! Caw!
I woke up this morning with Questions in my head, but not the album version, but the really awesome live looped version with multiple harmonies and it's now driving me crazy (but in a good way)...

Yep. Except for the EPK. It's all really cool though.
Just got a .pdf booklet download, too. Is this approach, with video, additional tracks, and booklet for download, common with other artists' releases these days?
Sitting on the train going home after a few beers after work listening to this record. I'm having overwhelming memories of New York and the week of T5. Of all the music we heard that week, All Birds Say has become my 'New York' record.
It was the best week, and this record will always remind me of that. Lucky that it's a fucken great record!
And can I just add that the 'In your own..., in your own way' line in Sunday Drivers is my single most favorite piece of music released in 2010. Just perfect...
Just listening to this again, and reminiscing about the Carl show at Joe's Pub.
What a night, what a great man! He just seems so sweet, and this album is really pretty.
