I've never heard of it floating around but I can't believe it hasn't surfaced somewhere. I still don't understand how that didn't make it on to one of the soundtracks given it's import in the movie. I thought it sounded pretty rockin'.
I'd guess the band just wanted to further avoid that southern rock tag and was insistent on it not being officially released anywhere. It's kind of hard to avoid a southern rock tag releasing a version of "Freebird".
