Title: Optredens in Nederland
Post by: Oz on Sep 29, 2003, 07:17 AM
Hoera! Aldus Nashville to Kentucky:

2 november: Vera, Groningen
3 november: Melkweg, Amsterdam
18 november: 013 (kleine zaal), Tilburg

MMJ was echt fantastisch! Onwerkelijk!

Forgive me if my dumbass American mind can't translate too well...

Melkweg 3-11
He played 'one in the same'! What an amazing song That was definitely the highlight, if you ask me. That and of course Steam Engine, which was a kind of climax during both shows (vera and melkweg) with each bandmember leaving the stage until it's just Patrick banging away at the drums. I agree with bubbachups: the sound in vera wasn't up to par with that in the melkweg. It's fairly common in vera, though, for everything to be on '11'. Then again, I was in front (which you shouldn't do if you're a fan of good concert sound) basking in the atmosphere.
I'm still on a bit of a high from last night.
If I have to put in my two cents as far as criticism goes, it's the fact that there isn't enough of a build up after the acoustic set. Just something like "Rollin Back" before they get into the last, heavier rock song(s), would make the transition smoother. But whatever, I'm finding it hard to find anything wrong with the concert.

Yes, it is hard to find any faults, eh?  :o

Ooh, yes, it was pure delight... When he started playing "I will be..", I thought I could die. And "Nashville to Kentucky". And yeah, that drum solo by Patrick was about the funniest moment in rock 'n roll history that I know. I exepected he was going to leave the stage and Danny was going to end the show quietly and then suddenly Patrick started banging... That was SO cool! And in two weeks I'll see them again. Life is good.  :)

Hoezo?

Enfin, you can't please 'em all..

You bet I am! And I invited two friends and my girlfriend, so it's gonna be one hell of a cosy evening, with some mighty rock 'n roll on top of it all! Damn, am I looking forward to Tuesday or what!  :)

Oh, until yesterday all my girlfriend ever heard of MMJ was "O is the one that is real", wich she loved, by the way. I gave her two CD-R's with The Tennessee Fire and At Dawn. I did tell her they're different live, though. Hmm, if she doesn't like it, I've got a serious problem, haven't I?  ;)

Well O,
My girlfriend instantly fell in love when she heard the tennessee fire. Especially the voice of Jim, she liked. But in Brussels when Jim was sick and he couldn't sing, she couldn't actually enjoy the rocking instrumental part, where I ,instead, found it awesome. I hope for you that it will be a

Well, she just phoned that she can't make it Tuesday, so I have to postpone it. Giant bummer, I have to tell you, I was really looking forward to showing her one of my weird hobbys...  :(

But she likes the albums, so that's a start.  :)

Hey, Martijn, guess I'll see you there, then. I'll be wearing a black MMJ shirt withs the bear and two skeletons and a pair of glasses on my head... But what's more, you'll recognise me for being the idiot that's headbanging in front of the stage. See ya.  :)

Great gig indeed! As it was not the first time they played at 013, Jim said to me they decided to play mainly the new stuff! And did we like it or not?!!

A little too less room though on the small stage. On Magheetah Jim lost control over his hair and headbanged his micro to the floor :D

Loved the tunes!

Yeah, it was a great evening... But I can't deny I was slightly disappointed. 'Cuz they played the exact same set as they did in Amsterdam, only leaving 3 songs out, namely "Phone went west", "Nashville to Kentucky" and "I will be there when you die" and well, there you have 3 of my most favourite Jacket songs ever. Especially the solo encore was half as short as in A'dam and it didn't blow me away like there. But then again, it was still a rock 'n roll show that rocks harder than any living band... And dammit, "One in the same" is one hell of a song! Nah, I shouldn't complain. Well, I guess I was just disappointed my girlfriend wasn't there...  :)

Oh, and South San Gabriel... South San Gabriel! South San Gabriel!! Holy fuck, that man has a Voice...

Great gig indeed! I would have also liked them to play a couple more older songs (or more songs solo), but I don't want to complain. It's probably because I haven't listened to the latest record enough yet.

South San Gabriel was great too, too bad the poor buggers had to drive 12,5 hours, only to arrive 5 minutes before the gig. Although his voice was still good, the man's voice was even more massive when I saw them on Pukkelpop back in August this year.

Oh, so this is where I can read about how the other concerts in Holland were like. I shouldn't have read your comments, because now I envy those who went to de Melkweg.... I went to the gig in 013 and it was my second concert of MMJ there.

My first MMJ concert (mostly At Dawn) was pure magical. I loved the solo performance by Jimmy James singing the tunes with his Gibson flying V. Sensitive and rough at the same time.

In my opinion I saw just a(nother) rock-concert last Tuesday. Still a great concert though. Poor little me, who only saw half an accoustic session compared to the Melkweg concert...

Ooh, now, I wouldn't say "just a(nother) rock-concert". No way! It was a rock-concert like a rock-concert should be, like many, many bands try to do, but fail... I mean it, I don't think there is any band that can do a classic rock-concert as good as they do it. A friend of mine, that went to the Melkweg, said he thought that MMJ is now like The Who was in the 70's. Unbeatable rock 'n roll shit. And Amsterdam was like that as well, just a longer solo part and the element of surprise, that was obviously lost the second time. But they were still sublime.

I just want to say that MMJ rocked my world big time in Tilburg. I saw them the first time in Brussels (the gig without the voice...) I thougt then they played some wonderful music, but my goodness, did they play a truly great show at the 013. I had the five most wonderful second s of my entire life when Jim sang the first lines of magheeta! What a voice, what a man, and what a group of truly amazing musicians. I never saw a band that played so strong and loud, and still managed to create such a heavenly, angelic sound(I hope you know what I mean). When the curtain fell after a blistering final, my brother and i looked at each other in complete and utter Joy!!! Whe bowed our heads and thanked the Gods of Rock 'N' Roll for blessing us with such an amazing, beautiful show!
God speaks through rock songs, and MMJ was God that night...
Oh, when you should visit Tilburg, check out café 'Weemoed' , Great bar!
