Title: Taping Shows
Post by: sweatboard on Apr 30, 2005, 11:49 PM
I'm really starting to get serious about getting into recording shows and I was just wondering if anyone had any tips about equipment or techniques.  I'm wondering about the best way to go for both low budget and high dollar equipment.  I had a guy recomend the Creative Nomad Jukebox 3 for a minidisc recorder, but if you have any input I would love to hear it.  Again, I am a rookie and I want to get started on the right foot.  Thanks,

Brian

P.S.

If you are a taper let us know where you will be recording on the upcoming tour, and God Bless You!!!!

let me do some digging. I found some helpful sites last year when I considered buying some gear.

But yeah, from what I've heard, the JB3 is the way to go. The resident taper on the DBT board said that he wouldn't take anything for his JB3 and he's been taping for quite some time. I think he said that he got a refurbished unit on EBay for dirtcheap.

Anything more on this?? From what I found the JB 3 with a good mic is the way to go...

Also apparently podzilla can also "Hack" the iPod into a Linux mode that will allow recording up to 96KHz (DVD audio quality)...but only is supported for now on the earlier generations (mine is 4th gen)...Apple is rumored to have supressed recording capabilites for some reason/outside pressure, it certainly should have this feature since Creative did from the beginning...

Any further info/suggestions - I would really like to get the Buffalo show, will be looking for a used JB3 I guess

Check Ebay. That's where I was told to look for the refurbished unit.

My friend Scott lives and dies by his Nuemans (Noy-Mans) mics.

I got on tapersection.com and got a whole bunch of info.  It looks like the rig I'm going to run will be, Audio Technica 8533rx mics, Edirol ua-5 preamp, Jukebox 3 recorder.  Im really excited about taping shows but a little sad about not being able to get into the thick of things up front.  Although...........I will not be taping Bonnaroo so save me a spot.

Does anyone know if My Morning Jacket has thier taping policy typed out anywhere?  I've heard that sometimes security will give you a hassle about bringing equipment in but if you show them the taping policy the will back off.
