Title: I'm an agnostic.................
Post by: loper on Jul 29, 2005, 04:24 AM
.............but if angels existed, I'm sure they'd look and sound like Jim James.

I will be visiting a church voluntarily for the 1st time on 7th September and fully expect a 'Road to Damascus' experience.

A suitable set list might include:-

The Bear. (Can you imagine the climax to this gem as Jim's angelic voice soars up and around the vaulted ceiling of the appropraitely named St James!)

Sunrides/I Will Be There When You Die. (Where better than a church!).

Old September Blues (Check the date).

Golden.

Holy.

Hopefully.

Rocket Man.

I Needed It Most.

At Dawn.

One In The Same.

STEAM ENGINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any other numbers that would complement the surroundings?

Run Thru, Strangulation, Death Is My Sleazy Pay, They Ran, I Think I'm Going To Hell may not be totally appropriate.

great set list.  for any purpose.

question, if you like MMJ's music, do you feel it is "spiritual" in some way?  this isn't an invitation to begin a religious-joust, but i thought it was interesting to see a post named "i'm an agnostic" and a great set list to boot for your first church visit.

groovy.

Oh boy!!  Okay, looks like I'm hitting the International Magazine shop on my way.

I hope we get it here.

That's really damn exciting.

actually i think 'strangulation' is a very uplifting song, about redemption after the fact.

Beautiful.

the same for 'death' and 'goin to hell'.

Man, i'd kill to hear any of these songs live, along with those you listed in your setlist that i haven't yet.

Good luck!

So I've looked in a lot of magazine shops as I passed them over the past couple of days, and nobody has this damn magazine, and I can't really seem to find anything online that would help.

If anybody has any information, that would be great.  I would really love to read this article.  :)

I did not know that about him.  You must have been very tight with his family, then - how did they feel about all of the rings and lace?

Okay.  I'm a nerd, and everybody knows it, so nobody will be very shocked to discover that I wrote to doingbird magazine to see what the deal was with the Jim and the M Ward.

Here's what they said:

QuoteHello,

Thanks for your enquiry regarding doingbird and the m. ward piece written by Jim James from My Morning Jacket. doingbird is a quarterly Australian fashion / art publication. The piece on m. ward appeared in doingbird issue #9 which was published in July 2005 and has been available in Australia
since July 2005 but often takes a little longer to make it to our international distribution points.  Some of these include Tower Records - Tokyo; The Tate and Photographers Gallery Bookstore - London, Colette Boutique (www.colette.fr) and the Pompidou Centre -  Paris, St Marks
Bookstore and Universal News (www.universalnewsusa.com) - New York.

I understand it can be quite difficult to get hold of doingbird in North America outside of New York, we are hoping to have doingbird available at places such as Rotate This in Toronto in the near future.

Best Wishes,

Rachael Cassells
Contributing Editor
doingbird

And I have a friend who lives in Australia who's scaling the walls for it.

If it comes my way, I'll let you all know.

Peace, yo.  (<-- see Brian?)

Ok, I'll cut you SOME slack Meg just for the simple fact that you have Liberachie throwing up gang signs as your Avitar.

Thanks.

(But, actually, I don't think those are "gang signs", I think he's just throwing his hands up in some form of jubilation, but you can see it that way if you'd like. ;))

I swear to you that if it comes my way, and if I'm allowed, I'll type the damn thing out for ye.  I really will.  :)

p.s.  Brian, I TOTALLY set you up with my Liberace comment.  I need to say that out loud so that nobody thinks that I meant it.

Doingbird sent me a pdf of the article with picture of m. ward.  It is typical Jim ramblings if you've read or heard any of his interviews.  They've given me permission to share it, so I'll load it up for download under that title.

Back to the thread topic:
Did you folks look at these pictures?  Oh how I would love to hear Jim sing in this place. Talk about angelic, spiritual, mystical, soulful . . . God bless anyone who gets to see this show.

Don't know my standing in the cool/nerd pantheon but I've always thought kindness was cool and it was cool of doingbird's people to let us run their story for free.  And if being curious makes me a nerd, then I am guilty, guilty, guilty.

:)  I was only talking about me, of course.  But if you'd like to be in the nerd club, you're obviously more than welcome.

Sharing the love is always very very very cooool.   8)
