Post by: otter on Jan 19, 2004, 12:36 AM
I e-mailed my cousin in Knoxville to goto this show, haven't heard yet whether or not she did.

Who went and how was the show at the Blue Cat's?

Just got back from Knowxville, and, as always before, can't wait to see MMJ again once they come back around Nashville. Blue Cats was packed and the crowd seemed like mostly college kids (smokiest show I have ever been to). Ran into some faithfuls from Kentucky at the show and in the parking lot. Missed seeing Johhny and Danny up there, but the music did not suffer at all. Some of my best moments ever seeing MMJ at this show: amazing ending to War Begun and the back-to-back blietzkrieg (sp?) that was Easy Morning Rebel/Run Through. Jim didn't address the crowd until an hour into it, commenting on the large video screen over their heads and later thanked the guys in the crowd who picked up their dinner tab across the street. Just a fantastic show (as always) and they played for 2 hours. Songs remembered, in no particular order:

The Bear
Old Sept Blues
War Begun
Lowdown
The Way that he sings
Phone Went West
Mahgeetah
Dancefloors
Golden
Masterplan
One Big Holiday
I will Sing You Songs
Easy morning rebel
Run Thru
Steam Engine
Sooner
(and 1 acoustic I did not know)

Just a great show and a great band. The new guitar player fits. A guy standing next to me was all bummed out b/c Johnny was not going to be there and I told him he had to trust that Jim and the rest of the boys wouldn't compromise the music just so show the "show could go on". Really awesome and I am looking forward to hearing what the boys come out with next. Rock and roll is alive and well!

Knoxville was great, although I got a little worried when the speakers were having serious snap, crackle, and pop issues for the first 90 seconds of the show....War Begun has indeed become a ridiculously sick song to see/hear live; they rock it out for like 10 minutes...My highlight was an incredible acoustic Come Closer --- I was so happy and surprised I had to take a knee!  Of course, the Bear was great too...I went to ATL and then Knoxville and now I want to go to Virginia too...can't get enough, damn...

Come closer is a song they hardly play live... I'd love to see it being performed myself one day.

I just found this old thread and..........Holy Crap Tracy!!!!  I have wondered about this set list for so long, you have no idea.  I haven't been the same since this show and now looking back on the setlist I understand why.  This was the first show I ever saw and I had really been getting into At Dawn and It Still Moves at the time, just hearing the stuff for the first time.  I remeber thinking that Jim seemed to play some of the acoustic stuff like it was in slow motion as if he operated on a different time continuum.  I had never heard someone deliver a song like that.  It was overwhelmingly emotional.  They need to bring back War Begun, Come Closer, Sooner and oh yeah PHONE WENT WEST!!!!!!!  This was THE rock show that has had the single biggest impact on me.

Ohhh I'm pretty sure you'll see a blonde boy with bells on.  His name is Brian.  You can find him up front with his elbows on the stage in the throws of ecstacy, generally with an expression on his face that makes him looked pained, but truly means he is just experiencing the rock to the fullest.  ;)

I meant that they don't look old.  Oh, don't worry, just look for the hottest couple you can find. :)

Plus, can you give them a big hug from me?  And Brian, too.  And take one for yerself.

Nah, I'd rather not give hugs.  It's kind of like 'tell someone i said hello'. I hate that :)

No problem.

QuoteNo problem.

But on a serious note, i will make an exception on the hug giving, just because it's you, EC.  I only have a couple of conditions that I require for you to accept.

Sec. 1, 7f:  No Hugs lasting longer than 4 seconds.

Sec. 1, 8f:  Any male-to-male hugs will be substituted with a firm, but masculine, handshake.

Sec. 1, 9f:  All payments are to be made in U.S. Dollars (Canadians will ignore the current exchange rate and pay in Canadian dollars; i.e. a fee of $70 ($100 CA) will simply be paid as $100)

There are a few other 'rules' that will apply once the 'hug day' approaches.

Thanks for your business!
-G.

If 4 hugs is gonna cost me $400, I'm just gonna hop on a plane and do 'er myself.

I didn't realize that hugs came with such issues for you.  I hope I didn't cause any trauma - I'll remember that for next time. ;)
