I know most of you are already aware of how much TM sucks, but I found a very nice article to emphasize just how much they suck.

seriously, the place fucking SUCKS. i couldn't figure out the direct ticketing thing and it wouldn't have worked with my school PO Box anyway, and i wasn't about to take chances with that mailroom anyway. so i go online and call them up, no will call option is available even though i CALLED the venue and they said they have will call. so i'm forced to do ticketfast because im not paying 20 more dollars to mail the damn things. anyway the guy im talking to says you better hurry man there are only 30 tickets left to the show, which i'm sure was bullshit to get me to buy faster, so i felt all rushed. anyway, i ended up getting charged 31 dollars (11 surcharge) to PRINT a fucking ticket on a piece of white paper in my living room, give me a break. how do we take down that company.
I agree with you both...2 bands that I know of took TM to court....Pearl Jam & String Cheese Incident...both settled out of court. :(
It's really too bad more bands aren't challenging them. But i guess they're so big now, you really can't win.

yeah man, i agree. i didn't have a good experience ordering my tix thru MMJ direct ticketing. i couldn't tell if it was will call or they would send me the tix. well the tix never came and the place didn't offer will call. i missed the athens show this year so that sucked. my order confirmation said my tix will be mailed 2 weeks before the concert. i didn't get a damn thing! so i'm forced to deal with ticket master. they do offer ticketfast which is convienent i guess.
With their $9 shipping cost, Direct Ticketing's no better than TM.

So wait, you ordered thru MMJ's site and got tickets, but they never sent them to you?!?!?! Is this a likely occurance? I got tickets (well my cousin ordered them) for the fall tour...am I screwed?

anyone care to answer this, please?
I've never had a problem with ticketmaster mailing me tickets. I did have to do a lot of calling and being on hold when I ordered the Alabama tickets from out of the country (the website wouldn't let foreigners buy online), but they did come.
However, I am pissed off with their surcharges. So, the tix here are already $25. Which, OF COURSE I do NOT mind paying for what I know will be a tremendous night. I would pay $50, but don't tell anybody.
Anyhow, there's this "convenience" charge on top of that, plus a shipping charge, plus tax, plus this other charge.
So what would I rather do? Support one of my favourite local independent record stores (Rotate This) and buy through there and save some money.
I called again today. They don't have their tickets yet, they don't know what's going on, and they're pissed. Is it possible that Ticketmaster is aware that the show might sell out, and wants to make as much cash on their charges as possible? Do you really think that House of Blues (I think that's the promoter) is that lame that they haven't got the tickets to Rotate This because they're lazy?
No.
So. In the end if it sells out, I'll probably end up paying the same amount from a scalper, and at least that dude can earn a living.
But the stress levels of not having my tickets yet are a bit high. But I'm gonna try and stick it out.
with direct ticketing, they send you the tickets the week or two before the event. they tell you that when you buy em. they aren't screwin you.
You can't get direct ticketing in TO through this site, though.
heh. Eisey, if this show sells out and I can't go, I will buy your Chicago tickets from you and drive down. :)
i STILL don't get why printing your own tickets is more expensive than having them actually sent to you!! wtf!?!?

It's one of the universes more sad paradox. Hm...that sentence doesn't sound right for some reason. Someone wanna correct my grammar?
..one of the universe's saddest paradoxes
..one of the universe's sadder paradoxes
(paradoxes doesn't look right but I'm sure it is)
Ticketmaster sucks anyway and there's not much we can do about it - that's a sad fucking paradox.
paradoxes...paradox...
could paradi work? like the plural form? :)
The plural form is paradoxes but if paradi works for you, go for it ;)
their surcharges do suck and it does smell like a monoply it will probably take a lot more activism at the artist/record label level before the legislature takes any note of the issue......
