Who's in? It's almost time to get this party started. Also, is this getting recorded or can someone tell me how I can record it? Thanks,
Brian

Riny, what time is it for you right now?
2.43 am
That's not to bad. Kathleen is just starting up.
I'm here. Let the rock begin! [smiley=guitar.gif]
GOD DAMN FUCKING ALABAMA PUBLIC RADIO!
They've got some fucking Sudanese rapper on there right now being interviewed. Their website has late night jazz or some shit listed next. FUCKERS!
They ruined my night.
I had my receiver hooked up to my PC so that I could get a wav recording, then convert to FLAC. The streaming stuff is fine, but I wanted a better copy for posterity.
Thanks for ruining my evening, APR!
>:(
Go Kathleen!
Hey olwig, at least you get something besides classical music 24/7 as I do on good ol Oklahoma Public Radio! I'm also barely contenting myself with the webcast, hoping for a better recording to come doen the pike later...
What's worse is that I'm on dial-up at home, so I'm not even going to attempt to stream it.
I'm in!
Go KATHLEEN!!!!!!!! Happy Thanksgiving!!
Corey, if you want to call me, I'll put the phone by my speakers. I know you're on dial-up.
This is fun! I've never done this before!! [smiley=rock.gif]
Thanks for the offer!
I may run over to my folks' house and listen to it. That's better than nothing.
I'm pretty set in my ways, though. So I wouldn't doubt if I just sit here and bitch about APR.
(Fuckers!)
I've never hated Wynton Marsalis more in my life.
I love this song!! I'm dancing in my room!!! :)
"I know where the cops hang out.
I know where you'll be found.
I know what you're all about.
I know when you're goin' down..."
Yar!
kathleen sounds good! i like when she complimented the record by dropping an F BOMB
Damnit, I gotta cook dinner soon. That means I have to leave the confines of my PC....grrrr
Canadians REPRESENT!!!!! I promise I won't make a post everytime I hear something cool.
But that's awesome.
QuoteDamnit, I gotta cook dinner soon. That means I have to leave the confines of my PC....grrrr
You'd better do it now. My Morning Jacket has an interview in 14 minutes. Maybe you could just eat crackers and an apple tonight?
kathleen's wearing an AUSTIN CITY LIMITS shirt! represent
Can someone tell me where to download "total recorder" for free? I'm running out of time here.
Quotekathleen's wearing an AUSTIN CITY LIMITS shirt! represent
We are just getting audio right?
LOL Crackers and an apple.
I'm making salmon, rice, and steamed brocolli. I've started it now.
QuoteCan someone tell me where to download "total recorder" for free? I'm running out of time here.
I'm on it. Recording at present. I hope it turns out okay. :-/
Quote
We are just getting audio right?
Yeah, she talked about a lady takling about her shirt who didn't even know what it was. :)
Quote
We are just getting audio right?
yes, she just told a story about wearing it at a gas station and someone commented on it but then the conversation went nowhere. i wish it was video, that would own.
What did he say the drummers name was?
Phil Hallahan ;D
PHIL Hallahan?
He didn't say Patrick
Thats funny :D
Was it a Phyllis Philson reference?
Phyllis Philsom? ;D
Dudes, what's the email address to ask questions?
Holy crap. I'm in my own unit. The quatro unit.
ANy chance of another FREE CRACK sign in the crowd tonight?
Maybe it will become a tour-long theme....
The other thread said that the cut-off for questions was 2:00 central time.
I thought of a couple of q's at 3:00. :-/

Oh. Whoops. I guess my own question won't get asked. Oh, of course. They already did the interview.
haha.
Damn.
Is it just me or is the guy asking the same questions that everyone else has already asked them a billion times (I could sit there and answer these questions for Jim. I liked Jim's answer to why he named the band MMJ though.
QuoteIs it just me or is the guy asking the same questions that everyone else has already asked them a billion times (I could sit there and answer these questions for Jim. I liked Jim's answer to why he named the band MMJ though.
No, I was thinking that, too. But I guess maybe NPR wouldn't have done the massive amount of research that we have done. ;)
lolleyland.com
wicked!!!!!!
I wanna know what the fuck is going on with the backward lyrics on Off The Record?
Yes.
I wanted to ask about how Bo and Carl felt the first time that they performed with the band. It was great reading what Patrick had to say about playing with them, but I want to hear Bo and Carl's reaction to it.
I also wanted to ask if they plan on hanging the "free crack" sign on stage at more shows.
:)
QuoteYes.
Me, too.
p.s. there are a LOT of owls at kathleen lolley's site. it's beautiful. everybody should go there.
Good answer on the question about music 'saving the world', or whatever. Rock on Jim.
"Thanks fer doin' this."
Exactly. :)
One song then I've gotta go to work! >:(
Man, I'm gonna be so late, might have to get a taxi...
Go Slayer!! :)
Ignition by R. Kelley in the pre-show mix.
Yes.
hahaahahaha...."auto-harp"
the fool
Hurry up dinner....cook cook cook
Notice the R Kelly song playing in the back
Jim's choice I bet

Thanks Meg - you're a star! ;D
hey folks-
THAT WAS MY QUESTION!
i actually sent in a couple, most were jokes and stuff about the old days. I asked if they could wear old school Celtics uniforms at the show in Boston on Saturday, but I guess they only liked my one serious question.
that was awesome
allsongs@npr.org
Everybody write to them RIGHT NOW. Do it!!
-more doublespaceD-
Meg, are you recording in wav. format?

Sweet, that was my favorite part of the interview. Great question there.
man these people are loving life right now.
i would kill to be waiting on MMJ to come on right now.
I love the play by play on the rodies setting up the stage.
THe play by play is kinda .....blah to me.
Dude's got an annoying voice
Common!! The Food!! :D
Not that I'm surprised. It's just fun to know it.
QuoteMeg, are you recording in wav. format?
Yep. :)
I only got the tail end of Kathleen, and the fucker didn't record about the first five minutes of the interview.
And I just started recording again, so I missed the play by play to this point.
Here we go!!!!!!!!!!
Quote
Yep. :)

Heeeeeeere we gooooooo!!!!!!!!!
(This is so exciting.)
That's ok let's keep it rolling now. ;D Oh Yeah, here it comes.
Quote
awesome, did you get the interview too?
Yep, except for the first five minutes.
Is this "Someone to Watch Over Me"?
Is anybody else feeling totally excited about the fact that we're all around the world listening to this as it's happening?
I am.
Go JIM!!!
Can you hear if the "Free Crack" sign is on stage or not?
:)
See, I've lightened up a little in the last few minutes.
Oh this is Sweet! I'm back in Atlanta..in the dark...
Judgeing from the crowd's weak response when the band came on stage it sound like the "Free Crack" sign is in fact not actually up on stage tonight.
Is the sound a bit bass heavy for you folks or is just my speakers?
That's it - I'm in a taxi >:(
Have fun guys!!! :)
GO PATRICK!!!!! (I'm such a fucking spaz in my room right now.)
It Beats For You!!!!!!
Yeah, it seems a bit bass heavy I would say. When I saw them in Knoxville they seemed to rock out Wordless Chorus bigtime compared to that. Seem to be putting on a more relaxed show. Maybe I just think that since I am not there hearing it in person though.
I'm thinking, as clear as the acoustic sounds that they're coming right from the board, bypassing a lot of crowd noise???
Right on, thanks for the response ;)
QuoteI'm thinking, as clear as the acoustic sounds that they're coming right from the board, bypassing a lot of crowd noise???
Exactly. :)
Beautiful intro for Gideon! Wow.
Damn!!! Only one beer left !!! Time to find that bourbon!!
will be interesting to hear if folks are singing along to OBH
Whoa! Nice close out on It Beats For You.
YES!!!!

I have a feeling this is going to be my fav. new song as far as being played live

Quotewould be cool if I was in DC right now :o
LOL! On second thought - you're right! That was great!
Sounds more or less like the order of the setlist for Nashville. I wonder if Bo is up on his feet yet for OBH. He was in Nashville 'cause the CRUNK UNIT was representin'!
Gideon was indeed awesome live. Can't wait to hear this NPR show.
My only wish is that Jim will come out and play I Needed It Most solo acoustic sometime this tour
I had to turn out the lights. The darker it is the more it seems like your acually at the show.
QuoteI had to turn out the lights. The darker it is the more it seems like your acually at the show.
I had to ask the owls to come inside. And, ah, imagine. ;)
And I hold out hope for Steam Engine or Strangulation!
They just keep making OBH better and better.
ROCK GUITAR!! Holy fuck. [smiley=rock.gif]
I hear ya Brian; I just lit 40 cigarettes and got my wife to elbow me in the back, yell in my ear, and pour beer on my neck!
I'm guessing Steam Engine will get played tonight. That's one I wish I had got to hear on my leg of the tour.
Maybe they'll go right into I will sing you songs
QuoteROCK GUITAR!! Holy fuck. [smiley=rock.gif]

THe Way That He SingS! Rock on

"It's MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and Kathleen Edwards has an AWESOME ASS" that should help as well.
Oh God fucking damn. The Way That He Sings just makes me crazy.
How am I going to last until next Wednesday?! ;D
So this is where everyone is.I was clueless. ???
Who's singin' with him? Bo or Carl? That's fucking awesome.
ahhhhhhh..this song always makes me teary-eyed - this started it all for me...it's all I needed to hear and I was hooked.
This show is awesome!!
I believe thats Carl
QuoteI hear ya Brian; I just lit 40 cigarettes and got my wife to elbow me in the back, yell in my ear, and pour beer on my neck!
Tell her to pretend that she is me and have her yell 'DEVILS AND DEMONS ARE COMING!' in your ear if they play "hell" tonight. Then it'd be just like Nashville. :)
ah please keep a Steam Engine in your bag for saturday night Jim.
If I close my eyes I think I hear a harpsichord...
They've been playing some fun covers this tour it seems like. I'd love to hear them do Suspicious Minds, I have an mp3 of them doing it, and its amazing
QuoteSo this is where everyone is.I was clueless. ???
Welcome to the PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!! WHoo HOOO!! We are getting the Crunk On Up In Here. Outro to "The Way He Sings" kicking my ass at present moment.
Oh fuck. Kathleen's gonna sing with him.
QuoteThey've been playing some fun covers this tour it seems like. I'd love to hear them do Suspicious Minds, I have an mp3 of them doing it, and its amazing
I've got a feeling they've been saving "The Pina Colada" song for the Webcast. So that none of you all miss it.
Guess Jim wants to see Kathleen again too...
Sweet, a duet of Golden
I'm gonna cry.
Don't cry, Frosty will be back next year at X-mas. ;D
Oh Carl. Beautiful. :)

Hey josh, I'm geeked for that show in Dallas too ;D
Ahh.... it's just not the same without you grabbing my shoulders when they play certain songs, Brian.
It's so good to be able to share music with people that enjoy it as much as you.

They just took Run Thru to the next level now I know why Bo said it was to bad we caught them at the begening of the tour. Damn they killed that one.
blaine, was that you at the last Nashville MMJ show at the Exit In in June 2004? The drunk guys up front from Arkansas? You rapped all night about the beautiful people???
They better not cut off the encore >:(

Oh my. I don't think I've heard this song live before.
Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhh.
Corey, you would be shouting DEVILS AND DEMONS ARE COMING right about now.
"Millions of people are listening, well maybe not millions, more like 30"
LOL Jim is funny :D
Quotehaha. barefoot drummer. hahaha.
Barefoot drummer that plays the double-bass part at the end of "Wordless Chorus" with one bass. John Bonham-style!

I THINK I'M GOING TO FLIP OUT!!!

I FLIPPIN LOVE I think I'm Going To Hell!
Favorite song off of TF
Man what a memorable night to become a "Senior Member"...
Holy Jebus!!
I Think I'm Going To Hell!!!
nah... that wasn't me at exit in in 2004...
i've only seen MMJ 2times now... and the first was at bonnaroo 2004... i've seen a few shows at exit in though.. just not MMj... i was the guy at city hall with my jaw on the floor...
but hell that describes a bunch of kids that night...
and probably tonight to judging by the 3 songs i've heard...
i tuned in a lil late cause i was playing w. boobies ;D
Thanks for letting me know they're playing it, Meg.
I'd like to think that it's for me because I make a decision not to be in a bad mood about the APR incident tonight.
Yeah, Karma.
:)
Oh Lord, this is getting real good Carl and the boys just slayed me with "I Think I'm Going To Hell" and now they are going to finish me off with that uh- Nick Drake - Cover. Good Lord, I love this band.
Fuck yes, I was so envious that they didn't play this in Knoxville. IT is so beautiful and perfect. My favorite Drake song. So perfect.
I really have liked the show tonight. But if there's one complaint about MMJ shows, or MMJ tours in general, is that they never mix up the setlists. I mean, I'm pretty sure this is almost the same setlist as the last few shows. I know they are touring to support a new album, but I just wish they would change up the other songs they play on a nightly basis. THey have a huge selection of songs they can play.
nick drake = beautiful beautiful beautiful
I am stoked!
What is the name of this???
I'm new to MMJ. Am I hearing a pedal steel or lap steel guitar? Either way, it's sounds great!!
This is the only band that makes me feel like I died and went to heaven.

you're right. great photos!
To be fair to them, they are mixing it up a bit. They seem to be playing some of them in certain orders, but there are songs that haven't appeared at all of the shows.
Knoxville and ATL didn't get "into the woods" or the Nick Drake Cover but Nashville did. Nashville didn't get "picture of you" or "heartbreakin' man".
We didn't get "how could I know", "where to begin", or "O is the one that is real" either.
Yeah, there are some staples, but they are doing quite a bit of changing. At least, I think so.
OK, this is where I lost my shirt Saturday night...
Yeah, that's a pedal steel that you hear.
Hey, are you Laurie from Guitar Town?
AAAAHHHHH MAAAGHEEETAAAAAAAH, MAAAGHHEEEEETTAAAA.
Is he saying Wild Thing?! hahahahaha.

What is that "There has been alot of talk in the media about this song but we are here to set the record straight" from. It seems so familiar.
you guys, if this is what i have to look forward to seeing i am going to lose it. honestly. i can barely handle it sitting here, what will i do in real life.
HAHA.........British Accent!
I think Bono said it somewhere on Rattle and Hum

Fair enough, but I wouldn't call 2 or 3 diffrent songs quite a bit of changing. I just hope they break out some other songs that they don't play live. Come Closer, Can You See the Hard Helmet On My Head, Rollin' Back, ect ect.
It was a treat to see Picture Of You on a setlist though, to be sure. :)

Okay. How do I get this show to you people?
It's, ah. Well, it's a pretty fucking big file.
Hell, I didn't even hear it and I had a blast just chattin' it up with you guys. I was there in spirit, only I hid when Tracy got naked.

This Party is far from over I'm going to put on At Dawn on the Record Player and come back and give a full account of it for the 18th time.
Show was great. Highlight for me was I Think I'm Going to Hell
My friend and I jam that song out all the time. Can't wait for the Seattle and Portland shows

Whew. Okay. How long do you think it takes to ride your bike to Holland? ;)
Did they just quote me on NPR. My wife is going to me so impressed.
Hey dudes,
Just a reminder that if you listened to the show last night, you should email NPR at allsongs@npr.org and let them know. It's important for them to know that people listen and enjoy their shows, and they're kind of a cool thing. :)
QuoteI really have liked the show tonight. But if there's one complaint about MMJ shows, or MMJ tours in general, is that they never mix up the setlists. I don't know, do you know how many people have NEVER seen MMJ live yet? I would venture to say more than those who have. Most are getting to know them from the "Z" exposure, and then they have to play their most popular songs that everyone wants to hear (including me :-)). That doesn't leave a whole lot of room for more, but when there is room, they are doing a fine job of throwing in some surprises. IMHO.
I've seen one band over 50 times, and you want to talk about never mixing up the setlist over 10-15 years' time save for a couple of songs every coupla years. Talk about frustrating. But I love'em just the same and will see them every chance I get :-).
Anybody else notice that this thread keeps getting stuck? Like, I see that Laurie posted in it today at 9ish, and yet, I can only get to pg. 16 with a post from last night...
weeeeirrrrrdddd...
i'm still thinking about this show. it's just getting me all excited.
You know, I just feel the need to bump this thread. 16 pages in one night. That's perhaps a new record.
