Saw D.Matthews/Tim Reynolds at the Palace back in '99...  At one point, Dave looked up at the beautiful ceiling and bizarrely spoke/sang "Starry, Starry night..." I'm assuming in reference to the Van Gogh painting...

The venue is just a really cool setting....

Not too exiting of a story, just thought I'd pass it along...

Best show I've seen there:  Ben Harper w/ Jack Johnson opening in '01.  Great sets by both of them.  Also interesting looking back how successful (commerically, I know) Jack Johnson has become.  Hardly even 1/2 of the crowd even came in to hear his set.

jesus christ superstar in '95 with my high school english class was rad.  the stars on the ceiling are nice, as are the nude statues on the sides, but the faces on foyer ceiling are mesmorizing.  though i won't be on drugs next wed, for those that will be, plan on arriving early to stare at those historical cream-colored trippy-lit faces.  just when you get a kink in your neck and want to look away, i swear they'll start talking to you.

I've seen many shows there over the years, but without a doubt the standout was Cake in early 2002.  I was in this emotional funk due to personal issues and feelings about world events.  I found myself questioning a lot of things in my life.  I had convinced myself that it was silly for me to go spend my time and money to see grown people, as I was also, stand in front of me and play music to huge applause.  I was very down on the whole thing and didn't even want to go.  My wife convinced me to go, especially because I already had a ticket.  I went, met up with friends, and was basically in front row/center for the show.  The show was outstanding and it restored my faith in music while curing these doubts about my being that were certainly self-created.

The Palace is definitely my favorite venue in town, not that we have a plethora of choices anyway.

yeah, ive got a few stories. i used to have the hookup for tickets there, like i could buy them before they went on sale to the public, so i got a front for seat at stone temple pilots. the opening band's lead singer  (hometownhero)   was in a bad mood and was talking trash about me and my friends because we didnt respond with amazement to each song they played. so after every couple of songs, he would talk crap and  say how people in the front row are lame. ive seen coldplay, bb king, j.tull twice, cake, alice cooper, carrottop, george carlin, the music, the list goes on. its a really awesome place and i wish they would have done some of the dvd filming there.  theres not many places like it.
