Title: Cancelled Shows *Official Statement*
Post by: CC on Dec 05, 2005, 07:18 PM
"Jim James of My Morning Jacket will be sidelined for a while due to health complications related to pneumonia.  My Morning Jacket will unfortunately have to cancel an upcoming show on New Years Eve as well as their European tour that was to begin on January 18th, 2006.

The band would like to extend their sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.  My Morning Jacket hopes to reschedule the European dates as soon as Jim is fully recovered and able to perform.  We thank you for your understanding."

Get well asap and whilst obviously health takes priority, we look forward (patiently) to the wonderful day sometime in the distant future, when MY MORNING JACKET PLAY EUROPE!!!

Can't wait.

Meanwhile i'm just gonna sit here listening to I Will Be There When You Die on repeat whilst hoping that i'll get to see Jim James before that is actually the case.......!

Man, what a bummer.  They were the only reason my wife and I bought tix for this show.  I have little interest in the Crowes.

Anyone want to buy a pair in section 311 from me?

Jim James, get better, so we can see you on the road again next year.

hmmmmm. Not the most sympathetic message Flying Scotsman but i see your point nonetheless. Still - it's worse for the band (and Jim obviously) than it is for you. So quit moaning and get a life. Although i see your point...

This sucks but I'm even boring myself by being pissed off, I'll say no more about it. Get well soon Jim but if you tour the U.S again before coming back to Europe I'm selling or burning all my MMJ stuff.  ;D

QuoteWow, I can see why that masterpiece of statement took 24 hours to release, musta have been working on that for days.
Such a personal, well thought out, genuine, heartwarming message.

I wonder what you'd like...  Would you like Jim to write you a private note from his bed?  Maybe make a handmade card just for you?  Perhaps he could be flown from England to give you a hug and say  "I'm sorry, man.  I'm really sick."

Actually, perhaps to make up for it, he could fly out and do a private, solo show, even though he's still sick and probably shouldn't.  Oh wait, he did that already, and look, he got really sick again.

There is not enough understanding going on on this board.

The card idea is really great.
Can I include my credit card bill for irredeemable cancelled flights twice in the one year? More hotel rooms to cancel.
I posted last month that it was too expensive to travel from Ireland to UK everytime but with blind faith I booked again
There may be a very valid reason for cancelling Europe this time but last time no valid reason except 'PR' crap.
Best of luck MMJ with your new fan base. You're screwing the old one.

QuoteThere may be a very valid reason for cancelling Europe this time but last time no valid reason except 'PR' crap.

I think this is the real problem and the reason why some people are very negative about this. Let me make it clear I do believe Jim is too sick to tour in the New Year. I wouldn't want him risking his health and would prefer to see him well. But cancellations in the past haven't been handled as well as this one. There have been conflicting reasons for cancellations for example. When gigs were cancelled last summer it was so they could do the film but we weren't told anything clear.

This time it's been handled better. We know the reason and it''s a valid one. Get well soon Jim.

Actually, making a glitter card is a really good idea.  Maybe you were being serious about that, sweetcheeks?  It's too bad that you're too cool for the nerdy stuff.  You might enjoy life a little more if you thought that a sparkly card might make someone feel better.

I guess some of the more angry people around here are just kind of letting our their anger.  Although, very stupidly.

Like, it doesn't need to be said AGAIN that the boys don't have drug problems, right?  And that cancelling a tour is actually a very big deal.  And that if somebody's sick, and you happen to feel really grateful that they make such beautiful things, that of COURSE you'd want to let them know that you're sending good thoughts to them and wishing them well, and that you're sorry they've been sidelined by something as totally shitty as pneumonia.

Man, wouldn't we all hate it if we got sick, and people were being shitty about it?  I would.  As though a human being is not allowed to be a human being?

zycartrobz its not a matter of  more pricks jumping on the band wagon and it actually seems a case of the more famous the band gets especially in the US  the more those little fans in europe tend to be fucked off and deemed disposable.

the fact is the band has cancelled 4 consecutive uk tours on the run and do not seem to care very much.

ive got a right to be cynical as i remember in the summer when we were told a similar tale only to find out  the tour was cancelled due to the band filming not sickness.

if Jim is genuinley sick i wish him a speedy recovery but to me it smacks of the story 'the boy who cried wolf'. people will give the benefit of the doubt but  only for so long.

if they care so much about the fans why dont the band members ever make a statement on the board or make some sort of gesture to the existing ticket holders.

you would be pissed if you had lost near $800 on hotels, plane tickets etc on yet another cancelled tour

The band didn't film that scene in the summer. If I'm not mistaken, there were pics of them on the set way back in the Spring. I'll look into that some more when I have some time this evening.
Stop using that filming shit. One of them was sick. Get over yourself.

Sorry to all the fans in Europe, many of whom were on board well before most U.S. fans.  I can understand your frustration and anger.  I'd be pissed, too.

But I really find it hard to believe that MMJ would just be blowing off their fans in the rest of the world due to a small surge in popularity here.  I think it's just a really bad coincidence that they've had to cancel so many shows.

And I hope that Jim feels much better soon, and I hope that the band can make it up to those who feel shunned with some really spectacular shows very soon.

Rrrr poor olwiggum has my comments and honesty really got you that flustered and upset at your little keyboard for you to wish pneumonia on me for xmas? Bring it on I could do with the time off work.

Sorry to burst your little bubble of comfort you currently exist in but its obvious by the amount of posts you have put up on the board that MMJ are a bit of an obsession for you please get a life before its to late! or Maybe you should carry on with your get well card im sure it will be most appreciated by the band

Picture the scene

"hey Jim here's some post from the record company"

"What is it?"

"Oh nothing important just some shit from the nerds off the message board few get well cards"

"Oh right throw them on the fire its getting cold in here"

"Hey man they really fell for the old pneumonia trick hook line and sinker"

"Ha ha ha I know pass me another beer"

I agree with you tundra, but not too soon I hope. I am as keen to see the band as anyone, but I remember thinking the Jan/Feb tour was announced much sooner than I was expecting. If Jim is ill he should wait until he is fully recovered before even thinking of touring. (Of course I'm not offering medical advice - I wouldn't presume.) I didn't think he sounded great on the radio show he recorded in London when he came on his own after the last lot of cancelled gigs.

We want you back Jim, but we want you fit and well first  :D

(I love home-made cards by the way)

It was shot in the summer. My best friend worked as a set designer on the film for the KY portion of filming. I went on set on a hot as balls day in July, 2004 when they were shooting a cemetery scene with the MMJ guys that did not make the final cut of the film. The "Freebird" scene was shot in Los Angeles, but not until late summer/early fall. Nothing was shot in the Spring at all for the film. It was all done from July-November 2004...

So, yes, they cancelled summer '04 shows for the film.

Hey sweet cheeks, missing these shows has been a complete bummer. I've had tickets for three and been out of pocket too (though not as much as you I admit) but I have to say the scenario you describe doesn't ring true with me. I'm usually quite cynical but I believe this band to be exceptional in the way they feel about their fans. There have been some PR screw-ups over European tours but I don't blame the band members themselves.

I think Jim would be touched by our good wishes. I really do.

I thought about it and I take back my "I hope sweetcheeks gets pneumonia" statement. I don't wish that on anyone. I also want to keep my karma as clean as possible.

But, you are indeed an asshole. I don't take that back.

I've been on this board for damn near two years, hence the number of posts.

I have a lot of spare time on my hands right now and I spend it on the internet because I don't get out of the house much. Is it because I don't have a life? No. I have a child that I stay with while his mother is in school at night.

Again, you're an asshole.

I'd also like to say that I really do feel sorry for the people that have lost money on this again. I know that there are several board regulars that this happened to last summer.

yes, it sucks. There's nothing to argue about that. But most of the board regulars (Dith, Ben Grimm) don't come on here and say the ugly, mean shit that spewed out of your mouth, sweetcheeks.

Title: Re: Cancelled Shows *Official Statement*
Post by: SMc55 on Dec 07, 2005, 12:14 PM
About the number of posts. Of course a lot of posts means we are big fans of the band, but it doesn't mean we're obsessed. It means more that we've met a group of people online that we enjoy "shooting the shit" with. We all have lives and if you knew us a bit better you'd see that.

The bad feeling stems from the fact that we were told a band member was ill last Summer, then the reason was changed, then it was a secret, then they start filming. I've said before this was a PR cock up and probably nothing to do with the band themselves.

I think I'll go and make a card now  ;)

Isn't  Woodford reserve just Early Times left in a barrel one more year and put in a nicer bottle to justify the 35 dollar price tag?  I recently heard something like that from my good ol  bourbon drinking kentucky pals.

I called Ben Grimm a scouser, which is someone from Liverpool, because that's where he lives. He corrected me by saying he was a pie eater, which is a person from Wigan. It's just a joke that he should keep quiet about it.

Hmm, I guess us KY hillbillys wouldn't know much about this bit of English humor (humour?). The extent of my knowledge comes from Guy Richie flicks, 70's punk and Pogues songs, but then again, The Pogues were Irish, but seemed to write about London a lot...

Hey fellow KY residents, let's crack some Indiana jokes so our UK bretheren feel left out  ;D

Watch it now, I was born and raised in the ville but now live in Indiana so I've got a sense of pride for north of the river as well.  Southern Indiana does have some very scared drivers though, dare I say stupid...

I will say Indiana does have a few pleasantries. I dated a girl from New Albany. Of course, we broke up in August, so it couldn't have been THAT pleasant. But I will allow that the Pizza King rules, and so does the model train that brings your drinks to your table. And downtown Louisville's skyline looks really nice from the other side of the river...but the view makes me want to cross the bridge and go back home  ;)

How did we get on this tanget? I thought this thread was about show cancellations?

Their SATURNALIA MMV celebration starts the day before my wife's birthday this year.  Many good rare beer choices are offered during this once a year event.
