Title: Playing Time as openers
Post by: BIGVICLBI on Mar 09, 2006, 12:58 PM
Whats the average time a band who opens up for PJ gets to play? Honestly its gonna blow unless its 1 hour, which will still blow, only slightly less. So do you think they will tour in the summer or fall as headliners? Or wait until early winter and promote their new "Calypso" record by touring the caribbean. Goddammit where did I put my magic 8 ball?

It doesn't sound like Jim wants to be playing for any large amount of time right now.  I am hopeing they will end up either letting MMJ start later or play longer to give more people a taste of them.  I think the average time is around 45 min.

Didn't even think about the whole rocking out might hurt his voice thing. I'd have no problem with him going acoustic the whole tour, but it wouldn't really let people know what they're all about.

I'd bet the house on it.

45min probably.  Hopefully an hour.  And i too hope they get some encore time.  The love of Mr Young will hopefully get us some duets.  At least some rockin in the free world.  I also hope people show up early, that wasnt the case for a lot of shows i saw in 03, when sparta, idlewild and buzzcocks opened at dif points.  Pretty low turnout.  My Morning Jacket is a little bigger than those bands right now though, and have a pretty good amount of press from last year due to Z.

Yeah, this really is the best thing MMJ could have done to gain steam.  It's really so much better than putting a video on MTV or getting Radio Play and making the billboard charts.  The people there for the opening band for PJ will be big time music fans.  The people that are just there to see the hits off of Ten will probalby miss out but we don't need them anyway.  It is a sort of passing of the Torch I think.  Many HARDCORE PJ fans are going to become HARDCORE MMJ fans.  Much like me.  I just happened to see the light a little early. ;D ;D

my guess is also 45 minutes—from previous PJ shows i'v been to, that seems about right.

and what a tip of the hat to MMJ to open for PJ! i mean, i've always had a lot of respect for PJ and their career choices — their respect for the fans, and in short, how they have achieved longevity. and in my time folllowing MMJ, it seems that they have that same integrity. i'm just really proud of jacket and i know the PJ fans that don't already know, are going to embrace them.

here's what would REALLY kickass...PJ releases all of their shows for download within hours of the show's completion. i wish they would work out some kinda deal with MMJ and release BOTH BANDS' sets on the bootlegs...or MMJ could do it on their own.........!

MMJ & PJ. what a perfect match.
