Elvis Costello & The Imposters, Death Cab for Cutie, moe, Damian Marley, Bright Eyes, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones and My Morning Jacket among those confirmed
Superfly Productions and A.C. Entertainment are letting the cat out of the bag. They have announced the initial lineup for the 2006 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. The fifth
annual three-day camping and music festival will be held on June 16-18, 2006, on the same beautiful 700-acre farm on New Bushy Branch Road in Manchester, Tenn., 60 miles south of Nashville.
A full list of confirmed acts follows, with more to be announced in the coming weeks to round out the festival's 80-plus artists and numerous attractions. Since its inception in 2002,
Bonnaroo has evolved into an unrivaled, multi-faceted entertainment experience, swiftly earning its status as the country's premier music
and arts event.
Bonnaroo's fifth anniversary lineup represents an expansion on the event's traditions. Focusing on diversity of programming and the highest live performance standards, the festival will once again feature sets from established artists, newcomers, and the icons who inspired them.
Bonnaroo is proud to host Radiohead's only American festival appearance
of the summer, along with veteran rocker Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and a host of other artists from various corners of the industry,
including Elvis Costello & The Imposters, Death Cab for Cutie, moe., Damian Marley, Bright Eyes, My Morning Jacket, Matisyahu, and Bela Fleck & the Flecktones.
"We are proud of the fact that Bonnaroo is a major
event for so many artists and fans," says Superfly's Richard Goodstone.
"This year's lineup continues our mission to bring together groundbreaking artists from a range of eras and genres."
As always, organizers are also focused on providing Bonnaroo fans with the best possible festival experience. To that end, they have decided to reduce capacity by 10,000 people in 2006, capping off ticket sales at
80,000 — the same size as the 2003 event. This number will make for a more
comfortable environment, reinforcing the promoters' commitment to making
Bonnaroo the most enjoyable festival of its kind.
In addition to its
adventurous music programming, Bonnaroo's arts and entertainment options set it apart from traditional rock festivals. The festival's non-music activities have included a 24-hour cinema, a comedy tent, an arcade, an
onsite beer festival, a Mardi Gras parade, an Internet café, a digital music lounge, wireless hot spots, a silent disco, masquerade ball, restaurants and much more. Bonnaroo continues to make a strong impact on the American music scene. The event recently received its fourth consecutive nomination for
Pollstar's festival of the year award. According to the New York Times, "Bonnaroo has revolutionized the modern rock festival," and Rolling
Stone called it "one of the 50 moments to change the history of rock and roll."
The event has been a career springboard for such popular artists as Norah Jones, Jack Johnson, Los Lonely Boys, Robert Randolph, Ray LaMontagne, Matisyahu, and many others.
Once again, Bonnaroo is poised to become the benchmark event of the summer festival season.

yeh, i believe they had a dj in their spinning till like 4am
cool... i actually just looked to see how much flights would be, and just to get to chicago would cost AU$3000 (US$2200ish) then i'd still have to get to manchester + tix + everything else... hm. stop looking ali, it's not's gonna happen this year!! :'(
I'm drivin from chicago on down to ol' manchester, so that'd work out. And I'm damn sure you'd be able to find a spot in a tent with Miss Meg.

Yes. Unless we rent an RV, or I convince my friend who lives in an RV, but hates hippies, to go, too. In which case, you're welcome to stay in the RV.
(I also may not be able to go. :))
I don't hate hippies I just hate thier music. If I go I'm going to have to find your friend.

I think you'd get along very well. :) But I'm almost 100% positive that he would NOT go to Bonnaroo. heh.

Well I have and it's great but, what about hippies? Hippies are usually used to sustaining an intriciate "I'm weaving my way throug the caliedescope of colors" type dance for hours on end..........................and then once the next song starts they do it again. Radiohead can play some fairly long songs and jam but I just think that hippies may get frustrated at the change in tempo and abrupt ending of songs.
we'll just have to see about the dancing. anyway, i think the roo lineup is a bit weak this year, but the 10 or 12 artists i really want to see should make up for it. overall, i think the coachella lineup always tends to be better in my eyes, but its in cali. however, i have a free plane ticket thanks to my wonderful providian visa rewards, so im really thinking about going to it. if you decide to ditch the roo brian, just let me know. ;)
No Rush?
Guess I won't be going this year either...
I left the built to spill cd you gave me in a rental car, I'm now in the process of collecting all the studio records. Which ones are your favorites?
Like...fucking RADIOHEAD is gonna be at Bonnaroo. I think this is the best lineup I've ever seen. I might have to make my 3rd trip down...
QuoteI left the built to spill cd you gave me in a rental car, I'm now in the process of collecting all the studio records. Which ones are your favorites?
#1 (tie)
Perfect From Now On (more jam, less pop)
Keep It Like a Secret (more pop, less jam)
#2 There's Nothing Wrong With Love
#3 Ancient Melodies of the Future
Perfect From Now On is beautiful.

How great would that be if MMJ played right before Radiohead?
This may be the best line up I've seen for bonnaroo IMO

I agree. This will be my 4th roo, and even so far it looks like the best. I still think Spoon will be added. I hope MMJ play a different time slot than the previous years though.
Ok Megan here is how we define hippies. If you answer "yes" to having two or more of the following interests you are a HIPPIE!
Take the test.
1. Anything Hemp - If someone manufactured toilet paper made of hemp hippies would finally start wiping their asses.
2. Tidied Clothing - some people like to go to Key West for vacation and they bring back a souvenir t-shirt, Hippies go on Acid trips and they brought back tidied t-shirts.
3. Dreadlocks & Hair Bandannas - Basically any long hair style that involves only washing your hair once a year................... with hemp shampoo.
4. Shity Music - No one is real sure if the band has released a studio album in the last 7 years but they own 150 bootlegs from the last tour. Average time length of songs clock in around 26 Min.
5. Bumper Stickers - Either something about Phish or Saving The Environment and don't stop with one or two, the entire backend of your '87 Sentra must be covered.
6. Patchouli - Soap, Incense, Perfume, Deodorant, Shampoo, mouth wash, washing detergent, body wash, shaving cream, candles, etc. etc.
Whew, I just made it!
I might go with some dreads this summer though. I'm growin out my beard too. :D
