Title: Washington D.C. Review
Post by: SiOuxTribe on May 31, 2006, 10:26 AM
MMJ was only 30 min but a phenomal show, I got there right as At Dawn kicked off and freaked out.  they sounded GREAT, better than any live videos/recordings ive heard.
But only 30 min :(

Pearl Jam sucked.
I don't care what anyone has to say.
My friend fell asleep, I was about to do the same so I walked around outside the venue where the vendors were and killed time as long as I could and eventually convinced my bro to leave at the encore.  Out of all the bands I've seen live, and surprisingly I wasnt expecting Pearl Jam to be the one I would actually give an F or D-.

i like how no one can say a bad thing about pearl jam without being degraded.  get the fuck over it, some people here (not many) dont like pearl jam.

i respect them because they do what they want, and they can sell out an arena tour with no publicity, but guess what, i dont give two shits about their actual music.

I'm not even remotely a "huge" Pearl Jam fan.

But, if you are going to say something, be constructive. Dont say "They sucked".

Because you know what? They don't suck.

Get a vocabulary and expand on what you didn't like.

See, but a band can suck.  I'm sure MMJ has sucked at certain shows.

I don't think he was saying they sucked in general, just that they sucked when they played a sucky show.  It's just an opinion.

'sall good. :)

i understand your point about saying more than just 'they sucked' but fact is some people still think that.  it's not a fact that they're awesome, it's just like your opinion, man.

I have always heard that Pearl Jam puts on a great show, comparable to Radiohead and DMB. I was supposed to be at the DC show.. but I guess I am glad I didn't throw the money in for a 30 minute MMJ set.
What sucked about PJ? Were they just not into it or what? Their music is generally pretty badass.. I just don't understand how the show could've sucked. Care to elaborate?

It was the only time I've seen them, and I have seen my share of rock concerts.

They played a tight, cohesive, engaging 2 1/2 hour, unprentious rock show.

No gimmicks, nothing fancy. The crowd was into it, the enrgy was palpable.

If you didn't have fun last night, you don't enjoy rock shows.

I've seen both sides of this. Most of the people on the RM board dig MMJ (and by dig, I mean LOVE), but there have been a few that said that they sucked , or they didn't like them, or whatever.

I knew this day would come...I just knew it.

Just my observation here:  he said Pearl Jam sucked, and that's his opinion.  now, he's either inclined to spark a controversy as he knows there's quite a few disciples here, OR the show just sucked.  I've seen plenty of shows of plenty of bands that got raves by their fans and...some of them sucked, by my reckoning.

I'm not certain as to why PJ gets a free pass-if he thinks they sucked, why the hate?  You're telling me that in the gazillion shows they've played, someone, ANYONE in the audience couldn't have come away with the impression that they sucked, on that particular night?

Come on.

He's defnitely entitled to his opinion, John. No one is denying him that.

I read the title of the thread and expected to at least read something about the show, other than "Pearl Jam sucked".
That's all I'm sayin'.
He could have called the thread "Pearl Jam sucked" and I probably wouldn't have said anything.

I know I'm being picky and anal about it, but that's the mood that I'm in today. :)

I'm sure that his impression was that the show sucked.  I could really care less.  I'm sure that "someone" walked away from a MMJ show at some point and said "that sucked" and for them mabey it did.  I'm sure that someone has listened to 24hr. Front Desk and said "that sucks".  In the end I'm not going to call anyone idiots or ignorant for not "getting it", but I might want to say something about the band or the music that I feel like they may be missing.  That's ok.....right?

The point is that one does sound ignorant when they say something like "Pearl Jam sucked". What exactly do they "suck" at? Putting on 3 hour rock concerts? Because, last I checked, they were kind of the kings of that.

You just sound like an idiot.

If I were to be dragged to a Brooks and Dunn concert I would say, "Well, modern country isn't really my cup of tea, so I didn't enjoy it all that much".

See, that's how smart people talk.

Jesus.

i wasnt hating on him or his opinion. i ooved the shows ive been too, i just wish everyone could have as good a time as i did. i wonder if MMJ did anything later in the show with PJ, that would have been a nice capper, and a good reason to stay.

ok i agree that being succinct in the manner of saying 'pearl jam sucked' shows a lack of effort, but i think your harsh criticism and ego shows that you're close minded, to say the least.  i suppose you've never said something has sucked before, based on no merit at all?

i love the broad generalistaions though, please don't stop those.

if you don't agree with what i've just said, you don't know jesus.   ;)

I really fucking love how this turned into a huge dilemma.
First, to say I dont understand what a rock show is cause I was bored to tears by Pearl Jam shows how much of an idiot you are.
Second, I don't think Pearl Jam in its own entity 'sucks', I respect them fully even though I'm not into their music so much, with the exception of a few songs.  What I'm saying is I did not enjoy their show last night.
But if you want to get defensive about it and start bashing me for being ignorant cause I had nothing good to say, be my guest.

And thanks to all who understoodwhat my intention and point was.
I'm not here to start some silly arguement or get into fights with other well respected MMJ fans, I'm here just to state my point of view and express how I felt about the show in a short paragraph.

Maybe the biggest dillema ever?

Perhaps, but not as big as the one Bush is in!
*badaching!*

Lets stop this madness and put all quarrels to the side.  We are all people here, we are all beloved My Morning Jacket fans.  Jim James would cry right now if he saw us over here getting all fussed up! We dont want that now do we? ;)

Drove up to DC for the show last night.  It was the best I've seen out of the 4 times I've been to PJ live. (92, 96, 03, 06)  Mike was full of energy, Eddie sounded great....good all around.  First time hearing MMJ, became and instant fan.  Eddie came out and played an accoustic song and personally introduced MMJ...very cool.  Every show you go to the opening band usually only plays a 30 min. set.  Last night was wonderful and to top it all off I went to Five after the concert and saw the great Richie Hawtin....I still can't hear very good!!!  LUV IT!
