n/m...i'm an ass...i was just confused, cuz the setlist wasnt up yet, and people were doing song by song with the blue room cast
It's not live but only two songs drifted out from the setlist: It Makes No Difference and Loving Cup. Out of a three hour show, that's a very small amount. This is all new to all of us
Quotepeople were doing song by song with the blue room cast
As i'm doing. The difference is my thread was started first ;)
so this is 4 covers in one show? fucking epic
The Way That He Sings
I read somewhere else today that they did "A Quick One..." by the Who (which was in "Rushmore"). But that hasn't been cofirmed yet.
EDIT: Thanks for keeping the setlist up top updated. I'm watching the stream now. :)
QuoteI read somewhere else today that they did "A Quick One..." by the Who (which was in "Rushmore"). But that hasn't been cofirmed yet.

We can only hope!!!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's true... and that Bonnaroo releases the live recording quicker than they did last year. :)
I. LOVE. THIS. BAND.

I damn near shit myself.

Dammit...audio stayed going, but video fucked up at the end of that

I wish they'd play "The Bear". In a 3 hour set, it's worth a shot.
nothing will EVER touch Jim and Kathleen Edwards harmonizing on this. I don't know if it'll ever sound better than that
Beautiful!!!

X-MAS CURTAIN
Xmas Curtain
I love how they go back and pull out tunes like this every once in a while.
Dondante...
Oh no, the new version!!! Still asskicking, but not as asskicking
Hmmm. I don't recognize this sax tune.
Oh, wow. That's a very different intro to "DonDante". VERY NICE.
Very nice indeed!
So is this the last number?
This version gets more "majestic" points, but a lot fewer spooky, tension-building points
They went back to the old version for Mountain Jam, why switch now?
And who's on bongos?
Who is that playing percussion? I can't tell.
Who else is that on guitar?
It was while they played this, and i watched Jim James spill his guts via guitar solo that i realized...
THIS IS THE GREATEST BAND IN THE WORLD
It may be because of that that i'm so attached to the old version
So fucking beautiful
Still no clue on guests

And they Fucking played it!!!!!! It was wishful thinking on my part, but it worked out. That violin is fantastic as well.
I've been in and out for the last 20 minutes because some company came over, but I had to run in for the Bear. Nice.

What songs ect. did K.C. record with the band?
The only bad thing about this show is that Tom Eisenbraun and the others were there. And the rest of us weren't.
QuoteWhat songs ect. did K.C. record with the band?
He was on At Dawn, i believe
LOL
Way to put it into terms I can understand. So I guess PWW is the deepest cut they played tonight. The 3 that made their premier- are they new tunes?
Congrats to the big fans here on the glee of seeing a show like that. For me, as a Z/ISM fan, it was unbelievable also. Their covers were so choice. Jim James is a badass!
Any suggestions on stellar shows from the Live Music Archive?

i'll add some hope with you there, although the cincy date could be moved across the river to ye olde southgate house, and i would have no complaints with that.
They filled (and blew the fucking roof off of) Bogart';s last fall. I think Southgate would be a stretch...
i was at the bogart's show. i think they capacity there is 1200, and i know southgate house is less than that. i've seen quite a few shows at bogart's, but i can't stand the venue, for many reasons.
I'm so glad they did "Phone Went West". My heart sank a little when I read those interviews this year that they probably wouldn't play that song again for a while.
wow. I can't believe I missed that! I hope the video pops up soon. They pullled out some oldies and goodies (still no War Begun though). All the covers and guests! Wow! I can't wait to hear this one, I hope they release the audio again.
On KC Guetig. He was the drummer when At Dawn was released although he was not the drummer on the album. The only recording he was actually on was the Split EP. He's mainly a jazz drummer and brought a different feel to the band. The best live show from his era or any era for that matter is the Planetarium show 9/01.
Wow!
aMD, there's a link to the first half of the show in one of the other threads. It just popped up.
EDIT:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/jmpp9x
thanks, corey. I just spotted it. Hopefully the rest of the show is on it's way.
Man, this is an amazing show. Coming off Letterman and with the Pops coming up, this is a big time for the band. Used to be you didn't have to leave Louisville to see legendary Jacket shows! Oh well, I'll settle for the video. Someone tape the Pops for Christ's sake!!!!!
I missed most of the second half of the show. I had my PC cranked up and was listening to the audio from the car-port. I would run inside every once in a a while when I would be surprised by the song selection ("The Bear", "Phone Went West").
Jesus, I hope Bonnaroo is quick about releasing the multi-track of this show... but not so quick that they don't get a good mix on it. :)

Wow!
Theres some songs from Split that are on SweatBees, so I assume hes on that too since its the same songs.
I gotta ask, somewhere after Attitude, and before The Bear, they dropped into a song I could have SWORN I've heard before, but I'm not familiar with MMJ, at least, I didn't think I was. Any chance that someone might know if they diverted from one song, into another, and came back out again into the original song, and it wasn't listed?
Sorry if that's confusing, but I SWEAR I had heard that song before, and I cannot seem to place it in my mind. It seemed like a slower version of the original.
At the end of LOVING CUP, they went into the outro part of EASY MORNING REBEL. It was awesome. This should probably be noted on the official setlist. Thanks.

What an amazing set list !!!
Loving Cup? PHONE WENT WEST?!! I can't even begin to imagine how amazing it must have been
to have seen that show. Stuff of legends...
Also noticed on the setlist that there are two #11's, so they actually played 31 songs!!!!

Basically, Meg. Those were my words when I saw it. :)
it was amazing guys. i was in the front row...wow. just got back... need sleep.
yeah, i think i may have even asked one of the guys about phone went west being retired and was saddened to be told that it'd probably never see the light of day again. and this happens.
another note, i believe that was in response to me asking about the chances of lil' billy being played live. if jim's got some fuckin attitude, i don't see why he couldn't reeeeally fuck us up.
OK, was it just the Blue Room audio, or did they take the most guitar heavy song in their lineup, mahgeetah, and turn it into a keyboard extraveganza. That was so friggin' cool even if it was an audio problem. I didn't notice any other problems like this. Can someone who was at the show comment on this? Or someone that was watching the blue room back me that the entire mahgeetah outro was all keyboard?

I think it was just Blue Room audio. Carl's guitar was not coming through on several songs. I especially noticed this on climaxes of The Bear and IWSYS. However, you could hear the slight echo of his guitar in the background, so I think the folks at the show could hear him just fine.
The blueroom audio was weird all weekend. There were some unbelievable low points (some clearly kickass sax solos on Claypool didn't show up at all, not even a little soaking in through another mic). The best mix of the weekend was Phil and Friends, which started out rocky, but would up amazing, great from the low end to the keys. I just wish that the MMJ had been better...
But, i'm sure we have some AUDs to turn up in the next few days
Quote
Basically, Meg. Those were my words when I saw it. :)
just went back and looked over what is possibly the most intenese setlist ever, and saw that there was an easy morning rebel jam. again, i say, mother. of. pearl.
that must've been some incredible time. is sweatboard back yet?
QuoteAlso noticed on the setlist that there are two #11's, so they actually played 31 songs!!!!
Yeah, don't know how i fucked that up. It's fixed now
What an absolutely terrific set list. If I had to make up a dream set it would resemble that one. Great show, it was nice relaxing in my living room listening to them play. Would have been great to be there though.
Yeah, the only original stuff they didn't play that's in regular rotation was Sooner and O Is The One. That's not a complaint by any means, just a statement
Quote
Yeah, don't know how i fucked that up. It's fixed now
Don't worry about it. The only reason I brought it up is because as amazing as 30 songs sounds, 31 is even more unreal. :o
Thanks for putting the setlist together with the footnotes, it really punctuates the performance. Someone posted it on the Wilco board and there are some very positive reactions.
Beleive me, no complaints here, however, I am surprised by the fact that they couldn't fit Steam Engine into a 31 song set. I think they made up for it with 3 new covers, 3 rare covers, a masterplan, a phone went west and a twilight that I bet was played closer to twilight than ever!
I guess we are beyond the days when Jim can sit down for a pre-encore 2 or 3 song acoustic set. As much as I would have liked it, I don't think it would have fit into that show as well.
I can't say enough about how happy I am that I could experience one of the most epic shows ever via the Blue Room. I have never been so happy with technology in my life. God Bless You AT&T! (Never thought I would say those words!)
Here's a random thought:
Maybe "Steam Engine" was omitted because it's hard to top the one that ended "Return to Thunderdome" from Bonnaroo in 2004. There's just really no way to top that. Maybe they want that particular version to be the "definitive" version.
I know that's a completely bullshit statement, but that's what I like to think anyway. :)
the 3rd guitarist was introduced by Jim as, Mike Desalvo...and i am not sure about the spelling of that last name
Jim just said he was friend from the 'Ville...does anyone anything about him? is he in a band? he was awesome!!!

That's a good enough reason for me!
Oh, and I guess we could actually call it 32 songs if you count easy morning rebel! 32 friggin' songs!
I wouldn't count that riff from EMR. Just my $.02....although it was cool that they added it in.
wow what a freakin insane set!!! i cannot WAIT to see them again now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't believe what I just read! That is one flippin outrageous set! Love the new covers they are doing!
To all those who were there - cheers to you for being able to see this epic set! :)
I know that maybe Carl was hard to hear some times on the Blue Room, but that had to be a different ending to Mahgeetah. The keys are unbelievable. The keys couldn't have always been like that and I just didn't notice until it was turned up could they have? Somebody please listen to the end of that again and tell me I'm not crazy.
Oh, one more thing, almost every time Jim talked, the audio cut out. I guess he was cussin'. :-X Fucking Foul mouth. :)
If anybody that was there can fill in some of the blanks, that would be cool.
Yea, he was swearing a bit... He said something to the effect of,
"We love you guys, and to show our love for you... we built this ferris wheel for you guys on Wednesday, before you guys got here."
He mentioned My Morning Jacket being responsible for the ferris wheel a couple of times.
:P
I can't believe they played a misfits cover?! That doesn't seem like an obvious one for MMJ to do.
Quotethe 3rd guitarist was introduced by Jim as, Mike Desalvo...and i am not sure about the spelling of that last name

Mike is a lucky, lucky man. He's not in a band. I wasn't aware he played guitar all that well either but what do I know. He's a friend of the band who used to date one of Jim's sisters (as did KC Guetig, come to think of it).
