(Never to early to start talking about it eh?)

Here are Managing Editor Bobby Tanzilo's picks for Summerfest 2006.

July 3 -- My Morning Jacket at 10 p.m. on the U.S. Cell, hands down. It helps that there's not much going on this day, but also, MMJ is one of the most interesting American roots rock bands out there today, mixing rock, country and more without really sounding like anyone else.

It would be hard to find any other band out there today that I'd see over the Jacket right now...I'll be there representin' :) Can't wait!  ;D

Greetings ...
Recovering from Summerfest last night, and still reveling in MMJ's performance.

Since this was only the third time I've seen them, I'm not in a position to "rank" the show in any authoritative way, but ...
I saw them at the Randolph Street festival in Chicago last summer and it was very good.

And I saw them at Metro in Chicago about three years ago, and it was mind-blowing.  Last night was somewhere in-between, tilted heavily toward "awesome".

Jim and crew never cheats the audience, do they?  I'm amazed by their energy level.  I had to take a pass on Taste of Chicago today ... but there's still time to change my mind.   ;)

I was at the Summerfest show last night too...the sound there was great and the fireworks going off on both sides of the stage over the lake during "What a wonderful man" was awesome!

 :o

One hell of a day yesterday. The beer was flowing early on at the local pubs here in town, and then we took the shuttle down to the Summerfest grounds. Got a bite to eat and then hunkered down in the 2nd row through Will Hoge until My Morning Jacket took the stage.

Might have just been me, but it was hotter than hell yesterday with that boggy humidity. The infrequent breezes off of the lake were a welcome blessing.

The band was as energetic as ever, and every song seemed to have been performed with perfection. I am so impressed with Jim's vocals considering how much that man moves around.

Taking the busses back to the bars after the show, well -- that's a different story of hell on earth for a different day.

Thanks to all the awesome people I got to enjoy the show with!  :D

This show was amazing. Better than the Chicago show for sure. I can't believe how magical it all was.  The fireworks going off on either side of the stage, the song choices, the sound, the evening....everything came together perfectly. It also seemed like the band was really energetic and into the show. I think Jim James got many feet of air while he was jumping up and down during Magheeta but there were several songs where he was bouncing around like a jumping jacket bean!

Demiurge, I couldn't agree more on the energy and Jim's vocals last night. The sound was pure perfection.

Very happy to see Xmas Curtain in the rotation but the song of the night was Just One Thing! WOW!!! I think I've only heard this one other time but it is one that sends chills down your spine!!

Speaking of Chills, has the band ever performed that one? I would love to see this and Knot Comes Loose in the rotation....

Love this band more with each show. So glad they came to the midwest for some summer shows.  ;D ;D
