A friend of mine said that MMJ has been thrown around as an opener for a few of the Rollingstones dates....
The Stones pick their own support bands, right? Bands that they like & respect.
However you feel about them still touring, being picked by the Stones has got to be an honor...
you'd definitely be shelling out some major clams for that one
That would be awful. Don't get me wrong, I love the stones. But I saw them in Columbia, MO in 94 and Blind Melon opened. We had more fun in the 8 hours leading up to it than the show itself. Tickets cost a fortune, Blind Melon played for what seemed like 35 minutes and the sound was dreadful.
I'd believe it. How cool is that. MMJ's sound sure is stadium friendly.
This figures. :)
if this happens, i think there should be a set that keith richards plays with them. and he should sing "you've got the silver". and he and jim should sing wild horses. and maybe sit in on "older guys". ;)
i want the rolling stones to open for my morning jacket.

Yer I doubt it. I don't think The Stones have joined any of their support bands on stage & vice-versa.

The brothers Young were on stage with the Stones when AC/DC opened.
This low qualty pic was all I could find though

Haha, Low quality indeed - that looks like Mark Knopfler & Herman Munster ;D
Cheers for the info Chills, I stand corrected :)
Pearl Jam and Wilco got them some good exposure, but NO MORE 45 minute opening sets please.
This is a sick joke.I fuggin hate the Stones.
I would like to see MMJ open for Neil.

You hate The Stones now (which I can understand), or do you also dislike their early stuff?

I hear ya.
I don't hate the stones, don't get me wrong. I respect the HELL out of them. They've made some of the best rock albums ever, which I've listened to over and over...but they should've left it at that.
I give them props for still touring, but c'mon, you have to draw some sort of line when you're approaching 70 YEARS OLD.
I really can't say much for the Rock n Roll Relics (Mccartney, the Who, Stones, Clapton, etc.) who charge the price of a car payment for a concert ticket. That seems really, really conceited of them, considering they have more money than all of us on the forum combined...times a thousand ::)
If MMJ agreed to open for them, I would kind of be disappointed. But, hey, if I was Jim James and was asked to open for the Stones, I PROBABLY couldn't say no ;)
Let me clarify by saying I hate the Stones for hanging on way too long and not being creative at all anymore.Hang it up if all you can do is keep rehashing your old stuff every tour.
I like me some early Stones...say Some Girls and back.
Best Stones album...Let It Bleed or Exile on Main St.
Let it Bleed.
Midnight Rambler. 8)

I see your point Jellyfish but I personaly feel that if they want to keep doing it & people want to keep buying tickets then let them. The fact that the tickets are so over-priced? That I don't agree with...
I saw them twice in '93 & they were excellent. They came to my city earlier this year & I would have gone if I hadn't been out of the country at the time.
The Rolling Stones are one of my fav bands, seeing pictures or clips of them playing live now doesn't change the way I feel about Sticky Fingers, Exile, Beggars Banquet or Let it Bleed etc.
There are many songs where i think to myself, "well, this could be the greatest song ever."
But if handed a ballot for one of those polls, and i had to pick a number one, there would be no question as to my answer
GIMME SHELTER

you see, now THAT is a ... that is an idea sent down from god directly into your brain. that is ... i finally understand how the pj fans felt when they heard the news. and if it happened, i think i would have to see that show multiple times.
when the stones plays the sars benefit concert here a little while ago, keith came on stage and got REALLY pissed at all the people who were booing justin timberlake. he threw shit at the crowd. i love that guy. (and justin timberlake, despite all that is obvious that we know, actually was putting on a good show. it was very unpleasant to have people booing him.) keith stood up for him, and i thought that was a1 awesome.
I've been wanting to see the Stones live, but their tickets are far out of my price range... If MMJ opened for Stones, I'd definately TRY to make it, though...
I have seen the Stones a few times and they are known for dishing out some horrible sound mixes for there opening acts. Just ask Pearl Jam fans for that. The Stones have a reputation for stroking their own ego in front of there fans. It's some showbizness shit they adopted long ago. Any MMJ fans who shell out major cash for this show will feel like they got ass raped.
The Stones are going to be playing in Louisville this fall at Churchill Downs......MMJ might be able to slip in, blow some minds with their tasty riffs...

Spot on! Hilarious!
I can completely see this happening for a number of reasons. First, MMJ will have just completed the October leg of their European tour with Pearl Jam exactly one week before the show. Two, they have no dates scheduled for the day of the 29th. Third, they're from here in Louisville. Fourth, Jim is obviously a Stones fan (and how could he not be?). Fifth, they do have a "stadium" sound. Sixth, ticket sales could do nothing but jump if they were added to the bill, and finally, MMJ is still seen as a "newish" band that the Stones love to take on tour to attract the young ticket buyer. I have a feeling this is a lot like the Wilco show last year at the Palace Theater. No mention of MMJ opening until day of show, (but everyone already knew), but actually seeing it was way cool. I say that MMJ will open the show and be followed by either Neil Young or John Mellencamp. Both have engagements at Farm Aid the next day in Jersey, and nothing before or after. While Mellencamp would not be my choice, he is a midwest hero of sorts, and would sell even more tickets. Neil Young however would be the real coup. Can anyone imagine that show? Btw, anyone who wants to bag on the Stones for still recording and touring can go screw themselves. They are the best rock band of all time, and "A Bigger Bang" goes a long way to prove the arguement. These guys aren't exactly washed up quite yet. Anyway, I hope to see some of you at the show, and long live MMJ and the Stones.

I think it would be great for the band to add the Stones to the list of amazing acts they've shared a bill with, however, I don't think I could shell out the bucks it would take to actually witness it. I just hope they play one show in da ville this year that's under 50 bucks to go see.
btw, When are they going to reschedule that Jim solo show?
I just couldn't imagine this mix--I would go if it happened but I mean in one hand a band exploding into hugeness and in the other hand aging hangers-on...blehh..

Out with the old and in with the new, that's what I say.

Doesn't ticketmaster control the prices usually?
