Desperately sad. Is it anything to do with the plane crash in Louisiana? Maybe I'm cursed...I've had tickets to see them in Birmingham x2 and both shows have been cancelled.

Will the dates be rescheduled?

The plane crash was actually out of Lexington, Kentucky. Which actually may lead people to believe that the show cancellation may have something to do with that.

Whether or not that is the case, it's not fair to even speculate
at this time. If we are supposed to know, we will.

I've heard alot about this around here the last couple of days. I work for Bombardier Aerospace, the manufacturer of the actual aircraft involved in this tragedy. So it's pretty big news around these parts.

My condolonces to the guy's.

sad news indeed.

just got this email from the guilded palace of sin who are the brighton promoters.....may be of interest to some of you

MY MORNING JACKET
+ Quasi
+ Richard Swift

Concorde 2
Wednesday 30th August, 7:30pm

We can only apologise profusely for the very short notice, but we have only just received this information ourselves:

Due to the passing at the weekend of a close relative of a member of My Morning Jacket, the band have had to cancel the last three dates of their current UK tour, including their show with us in Brighton. We have yet to receive an official press release concerning this sad news, but are told that the band member affected has already flown back to Kentucky to be with his family at this difficult time. At this stage, My Morning Jacket's live plans are understandably uncertain, but the possibility remains that the affected dates will be rescheduled. We will bring you news of any new date as soon as there is any, and hope you will join us in conveying our condolences to the band.

However, the show will still go ahead, but with the mighty QUASI now headlining and the excellent RICHARD SWIFT supporting. It is possible that we may add a third (local) band if it can be arranged in time. Doors will now open at 7:30pm, but live music is now scheduled to commence at 8:15pm or later.

We understand and share the disappointment you may be feeling, but this is a situation obviously totally beyond our control. We hope that you will still be able to join us for what remains an excellent show, but appreciate that some of you may now wish not to attend in light of this announcement. Consequently, we are offering the following arrangements for ticket holders:
If you still wish to attend the show, as we would naturally encourage, come along to Concorde 2 as normal and we will issue a £3 refund per ticket.
Full refunds will also be available at the venue door from 7:30pm.
If you no longer wish to attend the show and bought your tickets in person at either Rounder or Resident, please return your tickets to the relevant outlet between now and 5:30pm tomorrow (Wednesday 30th) for a refund.
If you no longer wish to attend the show and bought your tickets from either Concorde 2 or Ticketweb, please contact the relevant outlet between now and 4:00pm tomorrow (Wednesday 30th).
Thank your for your understanding and please spread the word to anyone you know who may have tickets. We can only apologise again for any inconvenience this may cause.

Reading this makes me feel really sad.
I worry so much about my family being so far away...
My thoughts again go out to the band member who lost a loved one just recently.

Thanks 4 the post - I hope the show still gets a good response  :)

Just got back from a weekend in Edinburgh, the highlight of which was seeing the guys bring the house down.

This news puts everything into perspective.

Our sympathies go out to the band member concerned.

Just got back from Birmingham (I live in Surrey & we booked a hotel!) and I was really angry at first (also had tix for the cancelled show in Feb) but now feel a bit bad about that, and obviously condolences to the person concerned.

But - and this is no fault of the band whatsoever - I do wish that the promoters had done more to let people know (as the Brighton promoter seems to have done with the email posted in this thread). The first we heard was a notice taped to the door of the venue and we weren't the only ones as I saw a few other people milling around and then turning away, too.

Anyway, have just got tickets for the Astoria show on the 22nd - third time lucky I hope!

We to lost a lot of money with hotel and train tickets etc but money means nothing compared to the needs of your family etc. i can assure you the boys would not have mucked you around on purpose..its not in their make up and hey shit happens... as for the promotors ..the cancellation would not have been known until late on Monday...which leaves little time to get the message out. The boys will definitely make up for this disapointment and will rock as hard as ever when you see them next.. I am glad you have chilled and please don't stay away...you'll get your turn ...MMJ is 4 life Love Zmog

QuoteThe first we heard was a notice taped to the door of the venue and we weren't the only ones as I saw a few other people milling around and then turning away, too.

I was actually there to witness the putting-up of said notice and was probably the person who spurred the lady in the box offices memory; I already knew that the gig was to be postponed as I checked here in the morning, though the venue website said nothing. I had to collect my tickets to guarantee I didn't lose my money, though, and ended up asking the lady for about 10 minutes if she'd just let me have them in case before she succumbed to my request.

Anyway, I'm only a newbie to both this board and the band, but I offer my deepest sympathies to all those involved.

Thanks! They're a great band and I was really suprised to be able to get tickets (I only found out about the show at the weekend) so it was a real spur-of-the-moment thing, so I'm less devestated at the cancellation than the poor guys who've been looking forward to this gig for ages.

However, I think it's safe to say that no matter how long we've been waiting to see the band, we all sympathise with the band member involved and there are certainly no hard feelings from anyone!

I've just been checking the Birmingham Academy website, and they have shows on every night of the week following the Astoria show, so I doubt very much whether they'll re-schedule for then  :(

Not sure if they're contractually obliged to play the same venue, or whether they'll move it to another venue?

I suspect not....

I'm sure this Birmingham show was scheduled for the Academy 2 so that week after the Astoria gig looks pretty clear...fingers crossed.

Again, deepest sympathies and thoughts with the band

Don't get your hopes up - if there's a band on in the main Academy, they can't use the Academy 2 part (it's a sectioned off area of the upstairs bar) - so it's fully booked all week.

How about the Wulfrun Hall in Wolverhampton ??
