Title: Taping policy
Post by: logan5ive on Oct 20, 2006, 12:34 PM
Hi,  :)
Does the band have a taping (audio and video) policy? Me and my brother are going to both Dallas shows in November and want to know what is and is not allowed.
Thanks,
John

The band allows everything except going through thier soundboard........other than that it's up to the venue.

Cool! I wonder why there aren't too many videos circulating then if that's the policy? I'm gonna check with the venue in advance. Thanks!

I don't know about the video part.
best to check with management before you bring that along.

Emailed someone at the venue and they said no audio or video taping; even though I've seen taping equipment setup and used for taper-friendly bands there. Oh well. Unless MMJ people can let me in with it, I'll be leaving it at home. :(

Just got an email reply from Jamie Sampson:
"MMJ's policy is that you are welcome to tape for audio, but not video.  And, it must be done in a way that does not interfere with the enjoyment of the show by any other fans (i.e. – no visual blocking)."

Wow, that Sucks!   They were (in the olden days) one of the coolest venues to see a show and they have recently turned, in my humble opinion, to one of the worst.   No taping at the Gypsy Tea Room?   Hell, some of the greatest shows I've taped occurred there - MMJ, Slobberbone, Drive-by Truckers, Wilco, Richard Buckner, The Damnations, Gov't Mule, et al - oh well, I guess The Man feels like they've gotta tell us what's what!    Maybe some of the more discreet tapers can pull off a stealth recording.   In theory, I could, but I've been busted before, and I would hate to get kicked out.
They busted my friend Brad for video last year; they made him give them the tape.   And they checked me out a few times to make sure that I was only doing audio.   It's a travesty that MMJ can't be taped in Dallas without hinderance.   Oh well, I guess that the sun will still come up in the morning, right?   As an old acquaintance once said, "they can't take my birthday away from me!"

No video. But I fully expect audio to get done.  8)

Cool!   Let me know if I can help you in any way (retrieving beers, whatever for you)....taping sucks, but it's worth it in the end!
