Any ideas aside from Viking helmets. I don't think I can handle two hours of keeping up with that thing. Can't fucking wait for this show.
If someone can convince me to do acid again (it's been over 20 years) I'll sport the space suit.

nice. i'll buy you a dose or two just to see this space suit in a social setting.
Sweet Jesus.
And I make an official vote for the viking helmets. You have somewhere safe to set it (on your seat, under your seat) so you aren't gonna lose it. Then we can all just look for helmets afterwards, get organized, and go congregate outside the tour bus singing the men's chorus part from Into the Woods.
It'll be grand.
I'll be sporting my helmet.
Not gonna be able to make this one. See the "Zappa Plays Zappa" thread in Other Music.
i just nabbed my Ryman tickets for the balcony
(God--I hope the sound is satisfying up there),
and I am more than a bit giddy and geeked to go to my first "Real" MMJ show (Bonnaroo this year doesn't count for me because I was trying to do the whole festival and left early for Common).
I love to "dress" for shows, but what's up with the helmets. Please clue the newbie in.
Anu
When they played at City Hall in Nashville last October, they had a group of guys* come out on stage and sing the end-chorus on "Into The Woods". Some of the guys were wearing viking helmets.
So when they played Rites or Spring in Nashville earlier this year, a group of us from the board all wore viking helmets and rocked out together up by the front gate.
*one of the vikings was Bobby Bare Jr.

I will be present, also sporting a helmet.
I HAVE THE BEST WIFE EVER!!!!!
BEST WIFE EVER!
BEST WIFE EVER!
She just called and said that she ordered us 2 tix for the Ryman!
I had decided that we wouldn't be able to go because we are planning 2 B-day parties in November, then heading to ATL in December for the Zappa Plays Zappa show.
She went to see the Indigo Girls at the Ryman last night and decided that it would be wrong for me not to be able to see MMJ there, so she ordered us tix. I'm pretty sure she's in love with the place.
SHE'S THE BEST!
that's great Corey! I can't wait for this show, it really is a dream come true.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I walked around with a ridiculous grin most of yesterday.
Got my tickets in the mail from Ticketbastard today. I dont know if I can wait this long, it's killing me.
I've seen some great shows at the Ryman.
Last year, Ben Harper was truly exquisite.
But I've only ever been on the floor.
Anyone know what it's like from the balcony?
if you're not in the first 14 rows, then the balcony is the place to be, it has a great view no matter where you are.
Is there anyone in the Nashville area who would be willing to loan some floor space, couch, or bed to Brad (angry ewok) and I after the Ryman Show? Just trying to avoid paying for a Hotel and even more a 4+ hour drive back home after the show. I wouldnt mind bringing a sleeping bag and pillows for a spot on a floor. ;D
I got this crazy idea about three or four weeks ago to try to go to Nashville for this show. To quote Uncle Tupelo, I Got Drunk and posted here at that time. Unbeknownest (possibly my favorite word) to me at that time, my old MMJ fanatic-friend Matt aka Mott or Mott the Jacket in Hotlanta came through with a ticket! Third row! Unbelievable, truth be known. But it's true - Ryman Auditorium, crazy to believe.
I'm really looking forward to it. I wasn't planning on taping here - for one thing, it'd sound terrible from the third row (the tape). But I am looking forward to meeting some of you Freaks, too. "We'll party our asses off!" -Doyle in 'Sling Blade'
Low Dog
P. S. Go CARDS!
Hey Alan and Brad, I've got the comfiest sleeping couch in the world, and a nice shag rug on the floor of my living room that are all yours if you like. Let me know.
We just may take you up on that. We will let you know soon.
less than two weeks now!
;D
I'll be there for sure. I've met a few of you before at random times. I know I've met Tom two or three times, the last time being a talk with Patrick at that Wilco show in Louisville a few weeks back. I was with Trey. How's it goin? And I know I know Tracy. Last saw you at Built To Spill at City Hall.
8 days and counting.
Next weekend will be kind of religious with Black Keys/Black Angels on Saturday followed by this show on Monday.
Me oh my.
How cool is it to see fans offering crash space; if that isn't community, and I don't know what is!
I heard people on this board talk of dressing up. I'll think I'll be the guy with the gold wig.
seriously. is anyone else as excited about this as I am?
I found out at the last minute that my boss has been holding out on viking helmets. I totally made him let me borrow it. So there's one more for the Viking Head Count! Hahaha!
Can't wait. Any Nashville folks going to the ATL show the night before? It's gonna be a kick ass weekend for music in the south.
I wanted to hit up that Black Keys show too, but alas, I'm sending a friend off to live in Pittsburgh with a big-ass fire out in the woods on Saturday night.
Monday night at the Ryman will be a religious experience. My favorite band at my favorite venue.....Ahh to be a Jacket fan. hehe.

Don't worry the balcony is str8. Not a bad seat in the house
Time to get crazy excited?
All you MMJ vets, will the setlists tonight and tomorrow and such be indicative of what we will get Monday?
QuoteAll you MMJ vets, will the setlists tonight and tomorrow and such be indicative of what we will get Monday?
Sorta-kinda, but not really, from what I've seen, they tend to use the usual suspects on a tour, plus an equal amount of randomly chosen songs...
For that reason, I avoid reading any setlists until after I've seen the shows I'm able to catch - that way I don't wait and hope for a song throughout a show, just because someone else heard it at a different venue.
God, is it Monday yet?
Ah!
It's strange today to remember being a music nerd before the lnternet.
I always follow setlists on a tour like box scores in sports.
hatch show print did a poster for this show. it has a bear on it. it's really cool.
Crap. I was hoping they wouldn't do that because I'm broke as a joke and don't need to spend the money on a poster. Now I may have to.
there are some old hatch show prints that i didnt buy (oasis, sigur ros) and now i really regret it because tracking them down has been impossible.
so yeah, i would get this one.
TOMORROW
;D
Does the Ryman not allow cameras? I never really pay attention to my tickets, but I just noticed that it says "No cameras/audio/video".
Is that just the standard TM thing, or is that a Ryman thing?
12 hours and counting.
If Wax Fang is on at 730 proper, what time will the Jacket go on?
830? 9?
How early will people arrive? Preparty somewhere?

I've snuck mine in many times and have never gotten caught. The senior citizen ushers are too nice to take them away from you. Just don't use a flash.
Anyone have any extra tickets? Looking for two at face value. If so just email me at ascot21@aol.com

In Knoxville, Wax Fang played for 30 minutes then MMJ set up for 30 after that.
I'll be heading to Nashville in the next half hour or so. Maybe I'll see some of you beforehand!
I might have a heart attack before i can make it to Nashville.
I've been to alot of shows at the Ryman and there are always cameras everywhere. If they allow the country fans to bring their cameras for the Grand Ole Opry when it's back there, and at the other country shows, I think they almost HAVE to let us rockers bring ours. I'm bringing mine for sure.
just call beforehand, i've brought my camera numerous times.
also, don't let the hired security see it, for the most part they have told me no cameras, but the Ryman staff won't say anything.
