Tickets are still available for 91.9 WFPK Presents: Thanksgiving Eve '06.
The Nov. 22 concert features My Morning Jacket with guest Wax Fang and will include performances by VHS or Beta Dee-Jays, Squallis Puppeteers and a 21 Santa Salute (courtesy of WHY Louisville).
The all-ages show costs $27. Tickets are available at The Gardens box office (cash only), TicketMaster outlets and Ticketmaster.com; or charge by phone at (502) 361-3100. Dare to Care will be on hand to take perishable and nonperishable food items from concertgoers who wish to donate for a Thanksgiving meal, including frozen or fresh (just not live) turkeys).
Oh man, looks like we have a little tradition starting here. I am going to have to try to work this out next year if possible. Thanksgiving Eve blows Christmas Eve away! :D
all ages?
does this mean no booze at the Gardens?
I hope they broadcast it again this year, I'll be there this year (unlike last... stupid career I picked...) I'll have to teach the wife how to capture the FM broadcast... let's cross our fingers!
;D

That SUX!!!!
i can't believe i'm going to miss this. DAMNIT!!!!!! I might have to find a way.
maybe a louisville local could clue the rest of us in on the booze situation at the gardens. i've been to venues that serve at shows that are all ages, they just mark the under-agers with big x's on their hands. i would really like to know what the deal is though. i will be celebrating my birthday that night and the lack of adult beverages = buzzkill.
where's the closest bar to the gardens?
fourth street is full of bars... although very trendy theme bars...
Only 2 blocks away though...
go with bbc. not trendy. good food as well

Good call, I forgot there was a BBC down there too, def go there!
I took the day off work, just to go downtown early, take some pictures and drink some beers. I may be down at the BBC drinking about noontime...

Sounds good. I might see you there.
As far as the Gardens, I went to a Black Crowes show there when I was in High School. They were serving beer, just not to me, if I remember correctly.
I've been to over 200-300 rock shows at the Gardens. It's always all ages and alcohol is always served. I can't imagine this still not being the case. This is Kentucky, not California. Hell, you might even be able to smoke without to much of an uproar.

I fucking love your screenname... such a visual.
Let's focus on the fact Squallis is going to be there as well as a 21 santa salute!
Will Squallis be with Wax Fang or something with the VHSorBETA dj? I hope they're involved in the whole show...

This will be really cool. I wish everyone in the audience would dress up as well. As Santa, or a woodland creature, or just as a dandy with a waxed moustache and a top hat.

So Tundra... Am I going to see a guy in a paper mache bear head walk into the BBC a few hours before the show? I'll be sitting there with a bag full of canned goods and a fat head from the dark star porter.... mmmmm!
thanks for the scoop on the bar scene...bbc sounds great!
uh, has it occurred to anyone that this show is
[glb]NEXT FUCKING WEEK!?! HOLY SHIT!!![/glb]

I was trying to hype it up a week ago. I can't wait to see what's in store for us with the extras let alone the concert!
Any idea about an afterparty location?

BBC is good, but if you like a place with a more local vibe and good prices try the Third Street Dive. I tried to find a web page, but only found their myspace page:
http://www.myspace.com/thirdstreetdive
The bars/restaurants at Fourth Street Live are one block closer, but are also chains with generally higher prices. Third Street Dive is 0.3 miles or 3 1/2 blocks from the Gardens on Third Street between Muhammed Ali and Liberty.
Not sure if this will work, but here goes...
http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=438+S+3rd+St,+Louisville,+KY+40202&daddr=525+W.+Muhammad+Ali+Blvd,+Louisville,+KY (http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=438+S+3rd+St,+Louisville,+KY+40202&daddr=525+W.+Muhammad+Ali+Blvd,+Louisville,+KY+40202&f=l&hl=en&ie=UTF8&om=1&z=17)
one week from tomorrow folks!
and good question...where will the after party be?
i just a commercial for this show during the daily show. how surreal. this shows going to be a blow out, and i'm not going to be there. :'(
1 WEEK FROM TODAY....
My wishlist for this show would be very picky, but:
- EVERY Tennessee Fire song
- EVERY At Dawn song
- Tyrone
- Cobra
- and a smattering of selections from the rarities disc
- and of course a Jim solo set!
Has anyone been trying to win tickets to this show? I have absolutely no luck getting through to radio stations but I've been listening non stop to WFPK and only heard a give away once. Will any other stations be giving tickets away? If I win I'll give one of my tickets to the first one here who wants it :)

bug,
have they mentioned a broadcast of the show yet?
If so I'll my gear all set up so the wife can just press record on my computer for me.
Anyone think I'll have a hard time getting a slr camera in the door at the gardens? It's not exactally the type of camera I can stick down my pants...
No mention of broadcasting the show yet so it might not be happening. It seemed like last year they hyped it up for a while so I think if it were going to happen they'd say something by now :-/ I looked at the website today and saw the announcement for the show but no mention of broadcasting. Maybe if we bombard them with requests they will hook us up :D
I'm really bummed about missing this, but I've just spent too much money on shows recently. I noticed last year that all the bands I want to see come to Louisville between October and December. One or two will pop in during the spring and maybe one or two during the summer but then autumn comes and I have 20 shows to chose from. I guess I could have worse problems I just wish they were a little more spread out.

I hear ya there... I'm planning on hitting Bonnie Prince Billy on Saturday of next week as I can't pass that up for 8 bucks...
Also in december I'm going to have to make the Hold Steady show for 11 dollars...
not to mention black keys are tonight but I'm not going to be able to make that...
Oh man you should really try to get out for the Black Keys! The opening band is awesome as well, The Black Angels. Also there is a rumour that Gillian Welch might be at Pour Haus tonight. I'd go check that out if I didn't already have tickets to see the Black Keys.
Sad things is, I've missed more shows this year than I've seen because I have to beg people to go with me. Nobody wants to see shows on weeknights :( and I hate going alone.
sorry to post again right after myself, I just emailed WFPK to ask if they'd be airing the show or even just streaming it from the website and the DJ said he didn't think they were going to do it this year.

Thanks for the info!
It just hit me that i can make it to the show
Is the venue all GA and what is it like?
It's all GA. The arena is 7,000 or so seats with an open floor.
Sweet so think it wont be a problem to buy tix the day of?
I hope the band starts their set off with At Dawn. I can't think of a more perfect way to start the concert.
I am very excited to see them next Wednesday! It's going to be a night to remember.
;D it's awesome that VHS or Beta will be there too!!!
Oh, man. I just saw that they've been playing "tonite I want to celebrate with you.' *fingers crossed*
34 hours til the doors open!
Quote34 hours til the doors open!
awesome!
I don't think FPK is broadcasting the show this year... bummer.
Going to the Garden Party . . .
Hope it turns out better'n Rick Nelson's inspiration. Even if all they play is new stuff that's never been released, it's likely to be great anyways.
I just realized today that I have not posted in the MMJ forum since JULY. Must be some kinda time warp thing going on. Must be.
See you all at the Gardens in about 24 hours!
so, general admission means a free-for-all dash for seats??? festival seating??? how's this going to worK/
Phone Went West and Rollin Back I hope to hear tomorrow night. I originally planned to go the Knoxville show and couldn't make it and they played both songs there. Tomorrow is almost today, I can't wait.
i can't believe i'm not going to be there. represent jacketeers. And I expect a full report with a recording in the morning!!! (or a day or two later. damn!
A little over a week ago I wasn't coming to this show. After Atlanta and Nashville, it was a must. In order to get from Nashville to Kentucky..hehe..in time, I had to bargain with my boss that I would come in extra early tomorrow. It will be worth it.
ROCK!
Quote In order to get from Nashville to Kentucky..hehe..in time, I had to bargain with my boss that I would come in extra early tomorrow. It will be worth it.

Your boss rocks!
Less than 24 hours now! ;D
Wow...I just got back in town and can't believe this is tomorrow. I am taking my 13 yr old son (huge fan) to his first concert. I was front row at the Palace last year and need to see Steam Engine this show or I will boycott turkey on Thursday! I have probably seen 30 + shows at the Gardens (last show Prince in the most disorganized concert in modern history) but am really looking forward to getting back in there.
Can you even imagine what's going to happen at this show?
The late addition of the VHS or Beta DJ... Squallis... a 21 santa salute?
Shit's going to get crazy!
I reckon I shouldve looked around before I started a seperate thread about this show
sorry guys
I'm such a n00b :-[
Is it just the normal VHS or Beta that are playing? I'm not sure what these deejays are or whatever
It's just Craig and Mark (I think) and they do a little DJ'ing, not the full on band
10 hours!
I'll be at the BBC dowtown enjoying some drinks before the show, whooo hoooo!
It's going to be a circus! I can't wait! Does anyone know the gardens' camera policy?
ah! goddamnit!
why am I going to see my family instead of going to this show?
ah!
:'(
