Title: Chicago Show Results (11/24/06)
Post by: Ive got an EVIL plan babe on Nov 25, 2006, 01:11 AM
Sorry, I can't remember the entire setlist so I won't attempt it.  The show was fantastic.  I'm sure you'll be seeing pics of Jim's skeleton platform boots.  The crowd showed up to have a good time and it was clear that MMJ appreciated it.  They were having a great time and rocking hard.  They were also joined on stage by the Chicago Youth Symphony for several of the songs during their encore.

Also, I took my brother to the show (who admittedly wasn't excited at all before hand), and he F'ing LOVED it.  He called his girlfriend on the way home to tell her that she had to go with him the next time they're in town.

It was nice to meet you moxyfop.  I hope you post the pics of Jim's boots soon!

Oh, I think "The Dark" was the nicest suprise of my night.  I've always wanted to see them play that live.

I really wanted the hoodie, but I ended up getting something better.

I got one of the copies of the set list.    ;D

(The notes are not mine.  They were written on the set list that I got.)

I was third in line to get in and met some cool people, including Clark.  We had an AWESOME time in the front row, right smack dab in front of Jim.  I wouldn't have been surprised at all if we would have ended up breaking the damn barricade from all the thrashing going on up there.

During the show, I noticed that Jim was wearing tuxedo pants.  Before the encore, when the Chicago Youth Symphony was taking the stage, I turned to Clark and said, "Did you notice that Jim was wearing tuxedo pants?  I wonder if they'll all come out wearing tuxedos."

AND THEY DID.

The show, again, was really incredible.  Words can't do it justice.  This band surprises me every time I see them.  I'll prob end up going to see them again in a week and a half.

I love them.  Really.

Oh, and I hope to God someone recorded this show.  Just One Thing and At Dawn with the orchestra were amazing to experience.

I NEED A RECORDING!

One Word
AMAZING!!!!!!!
Just abrely got up tot go to work right now, And I'm happy to say that I just converted 5 of my family members ( 2 of which are tough critics)to mmj, They all got convinced by me last night to have some drinks  see the show and go hear for themselves all this buzz I created since watching mmj open up for pj and llplza. After the show they all raided my cd shelves for their albums.I couldn't help tosee alot of smiles after the show ,the  crowd was really great  It was first and definately not my last full mmj show .

p.s if you live in chi town have a couple of bucks left over Jaguares Is playing @ the hob tonight
Another great band that always delivers live

Nice to meet you too!! Looks like we both converted our  brothers, and soon their girlfriends!! My bro called his immediately after the show raving about it... and still heckling the opening bands.

As soon as I get all the pics up I'll definitely post the link, my bro went nuts and I think I have 100+ pics and a few videos.

Concert was amazing, first time seeing them headline was amazing... both of us are orchestra members so I think the kids coming out pretty much cemented it as one of the best concerts I've seen all year. Gideon was just phenomenal. My lucky number 5th time seeing them this year and it was everything I wanted :)

Yes, Anytime was played as the closer.  The entire setlist is above if you want to check it out.

Catfish Haven started at 7pm
The Slip started around 7:30ish
MMJ started promptly at 9pm or even few minutes sooner and finished just short of 11pm

This show was incredible. The energy coming from the band was high wattage! My favorite Jim line?

When he was saying thank you for coming, etc...

"We'd like to thank you from the bottom of our cold, dead hearts!"

More to come later -- still a little overwhelmed. Funny tidbit...during catfish haven I looked behind me and bam, there was Carl digging the band, and taking some pics. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to blow his cover! :)

Oh and here are some photos, not the best but some are nice... enjoy! :)

That was so funny!  What an AWESOME show!  I danced the whole time - talk about schweaty balls!  (ha! just kiddin - ain't got none!)  But I was in heaven!  So totally COOL to meet Todd and Adam and Christopher and Jeff at the Uptown and then Rob, Aaron and Adam (my new road trip buddy to Indy today!) at the Green Mill!   I was good and toasty for the show.  We were about 4 rows back on the right in front of Jimbo.  I took my friend Craig who knew NADA about MMJ and he LOVED the show!  WTG!  Another MMJ convert!  Great to see Angela and Ravi after the show too!  You guys are the best!
MMJ fans are totally COOL people!!!!!   Love you all!  See you in Indy!   :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

No, those people irritated the hell out of me.  Thankfully, my brother let me trade places so that I didn't have a giant elbow in my rib.

Woah buddy... the way I see it you could have had your pick of a make-out partner! Everyone else seemed to be swapping.

Drunk people get way more annoying as you sober up.

Concert still rocked :)

The show was amazing! I went by myself because none of my friends have caught on to how talented mmj is...but I'll convert them soon. The balcony view was very nice and everyone was into it. I was the only African-American woman in the place! I kept having thoughts of Jimmy Hendrix. Very soulful and moving!! I hope they come back soon. The orchestra, the lighting , the drums, keyboards, vocals!!  THANKS MMJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was in the very front in front of Jim.  Was that the same girl who was TALKING during the beginning of "Dondante," saying, "I love you Jim.  I just can't explain it"?

Because that girl needs to die.  Singing out of tune and loud enough that I can't hear Jim singing is one thing, but fucking TALKING during the soft part of "Dondante" should not be taking place.

It was totally cool until that girl pushed her way up to the front right behind me.  After that, there was all sorts of violations of personal space, spilling beer on me, etc.

Sounds like you guys got  a special show!  Congrats!  Using the youth choir is a perfect example of why I love this band.  Great to see all the new names on here.  Glad you guys had such a great time.

Yes, great pics leafy (this is a reference to my post in the wrong section!!), thank you.  I was up in the balcony, bout 12 rows back, when they started, those lights where blinding (the white ones), they seemed to be aimed right at the center of the balcony, but, either my eyes adjusted, or someone realised the cock up and it wasn't a problem from a few songs in.  As your pics show, the lighting was great, at one point i was reminded of close encounters of the third kind (make all the Metaphors you wish on that comment!).  I thought the setlist tonight was a great mix of old, new, and just down right funky/trippy...  I like the way they are tinkering, ever so slighly, with(some) of the older songs now, making them more appealing to the "Z" fans.  I am a 49yld tough guy ("hey!, see the game?, great game!!"), but i must admit, sometimes i well up with emotion at an MMJ gig...................

I'm always overcome with emotion at a great show and that's a given for me when it comes to My Morning Jacket.

yes, i think it's the passion MMJ evokes in ther music that the emotion stems from, but still, with the distractions of todays music crowds in general (yapping, people moving about the whole bloody time, annoying cell phone users...) it's hard to be moved, yet MMJ do it to me all the time.  Jeez, i sound like an old hippy :o

Really?  I've always gotten more of a Neil Young vibe from Jim James, including the first time I saw them.  It's probably the voice, although I like Jim's voice a lot more than Neil Young's.

That sucks someone was ruining this song for you! Dondante is amazing..and hearing it live made me appreciate it even more. Was probably my friend spilling the beer though, she had a little too much to drink and for that I do apologize!! Thankfully I wasn't as bad as she was or I wouldn't remember anything!

I had not seen them since 2004 and back then I barely knew their music. So this concert was a huge deal for me. We came up from Nebraska for the show and it was way better than Thanksgiving with the family!

I was lucky enough to meet Jim though after the show! To bad he didn't have his boots on anymore. Those things were pretty sweet!
I met his one of his roadies, Brucie and started talking to him. Little bit later there is Jim across the street! I about died. Then he came over and I introduced myself.
Sure he doesn't remember, but I will never forget it!
I think after this concert I am worshiping this band more then ever!!!

Anyone going to the Colorado show? Thinking about driving to that also. They never come any closer to good ol' Nebraska so gotta go when I can.

The beer spilling I can handle.  That wasn't so bad and my clothes can be washed.  The Dondante ruining, whoever that was, was simply unacceptable.  :(

Where'd you wait and end up meeting Jim?  Since I got a copy of the setlist, I thought about possibly hanging around to see if I could get the band to sign it.  I ended up meeting up with a friend instead.

Great show for sure.  Sorry I wasn't able to meet up with anybody for the pre-game.  Hate to be a stickler but I had some problems with the sound.  Couldn't really hear a bass note for the first half.  I blame The Shitty Slip for not having a bass player.  Too much kick drum.  And the lights were brutal in the balcony, hard to see anything on the stage.  And what about when Patrick had drum problems on Lay Low and stopped playing but there was still a drum track playing?

Loved the Lay Low anyway, and Dondante.

Definitely an awesome show and a very nice crowd and Jim James is clearly the greatest singer in the game (with songs to match).

I ended up meeting Jim outside after the concert by his tour bus. My friend and I were waiting for cabs and were not having any luck catching them. So then we were just standing there and I saw the bus on the side of the road. So that is when I saw that Brucie fellow and started chatting with him. Jim just happend to be coming out of the venue and was standing across the street from us. So when he walked over and was talking to Brucie, that is when I met him.
I wish I would have had more film in my camera to get my picture taken with him
I had a sticker I bought with me and I should have had him sign it, but I was to nervous to remember I had it!

Well it was still very cool to meet him. There are so many things I wish I would have said, but now it's too late. Plus, I don't even think I could describe to him how much their music means to me. I don't want to sound like a complete idiot going on and on. He probably hears it all the time.

Anyone going to either Colorado show in January?
