I'll go with Wordless Chorus.. I'd assume it would be something off of Z
I can't decide really, but I'm going with Lay Low.
I would say almost with little doubt, Anytime. That seems to be one of their favorites for this tour. And it does rock extremely well.
QuoteI would say almost with little doubt, Anytime. That seems to be one of their favorites for this tour. And it does rock extremely well.
Hard question. Wordless Chorus is a good guess, I think, because Lay Low is too long (if they wanna do it justice) for the 3-4 minute time limit that these type of shows give the bands, and Anytime was already done on Conan. I think that they did Gideon on Letterman. Could be What a Wonderful Man as well? It's only about three minutes. Guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm officially begging for Weeks go by Like Days or Xmas Curtain, but anything will be fantastic, as always. Long live MMJ!
Low Dog
Maybe they'll reprise One Big Holiday. I'm guessing we'll see Wordless Chorus.
I think they'll do "911 is a joke" by Public Enemy.
We should throw money down or something. It will probably be something from Okonokos so we can narrow it down to that. Run Thru would totally blow Conan away, but it will probably be something from Z.
Gideon
QuoteGideon
really dont see why they would do that after Letterman
im still betting on Wordless
i would dig, "it beats for you" if they're going to play something off Z. but i could see them slimmin' down "off the record" for tv.
i'm thinking they will bust out an old song!!!
"Family Tradition" by Hank Williams Jr.
Seriously.
xmas curtain!!!
i'd say either wordless chorus, xmas curtain, or what a wonderful man... but thats a short one. i would die if it were "can u see this helmet on my head". absolutly die.
i'll bet on "off the record". i'd rather see O or something more obscure.
I'll go with What a Wonderful Man. It's a good one to knock people upside the head with in a short talk show slot. I hope they don't repeat anything. They've done One Big Holiday, Anytime, and Gideon (twice) so far on the late night shows.
So far they have always played something off of their most recent release (presumably for promotional reasons, natch') and that means something on Okonokos.
I think it will be "It Beats 4 You" or Golden, but they've never done one of their "gorgeous" songs on TV and likely would never be allowed enough time for Steam Engine or I Will Sing You Songs. In fact, we should all petition for Steam Engine and send it to Conan.
Tunes from the EPs don't get promoted (Hard Helmet or O is the One would be inspired choices, but most of their tunes are . . . inspired!). What would really be great is for Conan to get inspired and let them do TWO songs. That would be so RADICAL in cut and paste TV network land. Opening monologue, skit, interview one, interview two, song by guest artist, goodbyes. Cut and paste boredom, that's networks.
We want two songs. Yeah, that's the petition.
holy Crap.........Steam Engine on Conan? He would freak out. I would love to see it.
My guess though is Wordless C.
How about At Dawn leading into It Beats 4 U. Both short enough to get in. OK, now I'm stretching. :)
I also think "It Beats 4 U". Beautiful song that they can rock out at the end. :o
I think Lay Low is by no means too long for Conan. And really should devote an entire week to them like he did for the White Stripes.
Since they are doing the show in support of Okonokos, any song off of that album could be played. I'm leaning towards Off The Record or What A Wonderful Man - Off The Record makes sense because it is far better served live than on Z.
However, I'd love them to do Lay Low.
Wordless Chorus would personally be a big disappointment.
Cool, cool, cool, this Wednesday. :)
About: Late Night with Conan O'Brien: 2006/11/29
Martha Stewart; Brian Posehn; musical guest My Morning Jacket.
Martha Stewart in the house.
Quotexmas curtain!!!
I'm going with this too. good idea. crap, would that be great. And festive too!
my vote goes for xmas curtain 8) tis the season.
Oh heck yeah, that would be sweet.
Man I hope it is xmas curtain, that would let people know what's important... music that fits vs what the record company tells me to support.
Let's keep our fingers crossed!
if they do play something that isn't off Z, i hope they play "Masterplan".
another club banger for Conan
I'm going w/ "What a Wonderful Man."
It Beats 4 U
QuoteIt Beats 4 U
You say that like you know something.
Quote
You say that like you know something.
Is Tracy "Conan"?
Quote
You say that like you know something.
I say it with confidence, so, if I am right, then I will be viewed in high regard and admired as having a deep understanding of the Jacket and their wishes.
But, if I am wrong, it's like, "Shit man, it was just a guess".
It's complicated...
I was trying to come up with a history of MMJ on late night talk shows and this is what I have a record of. Can anyone add to this or is it complete?
One Big Holiday 9-18-03 Conan
Anytime Date Unknown Conan
Gideon Date Unknown Craig Ferguson
Gideon w/ Boston Pops Date Unknown Letterman
Any others?
I am betting on It Beats 4 U but hoping they bust out O is the One
If I could pick, something realistic that is, I would be all about It Beats 4U.
As much as I love all of MMJ's music, It Beats 4 U might be my least favorite song. "O" would be incredible.....I could just see Conan doing the same thing as when they played OBH........."WOW! I AM BUYING THAT ALBUM!"
I vote for "O is the one" or "Worldless" but as long as he wears the boots and they use the smoke machine I'll be happy with whatever they play. :D
QuoteI vote for "O is the one" or "Worldless" but as long as he wears the boots and they use the smoke machine I'll be happy with whatever they play. :D
Hilarious! What if they cover "Elvira" by The Oak Ridge Boys whilst wearing said boots and using said smoke machine??
Quote

right, but they'd probably program the
Giddy Up Oom Poppa Omm Poppa Mow Mow into Bo's keyboards and then people would accuse them of selling out
(even though I bet Tommy could pull off a pretty impressive
Giddy Up Oom Poppa Omm Poppa Mow Mow but he'd do it on Jim's mic).
I just wish so badly that Conan would interview Jim. Can you even imagine how entertaining that would be. Also, I'd like to see the masturbating bear make an apperance during the performance.
oh yeah, Conan has a horn section how about Eazy Morning Rebel.
Due to the start of the holiday season, the fact they have been playing it regularly on the current tour, and its appearance on the new live CD, I'm guessing "X-mas Curtain."
What A Wonderful Man.
It's short.
Bands almost never play songs from older albums on the Late NIght circuit.

hi....ho silver.....awaaaaaaaaaaaaay! hilarious...
What I wouldn't give to see steam engine or dondante (even more unlikely)! Gideon with Boston Pops was unbelieveable. I wonder what the crowd thought of that one. It was intense.
O or Xmas curtain would be beautiful. I'll be happy with pretty much whatever.
For my guess, I'm going with Wordless Chorus.
they need to do one of those 3 song medleys. You know, 1:30 of Magheetah, 1:30 of OBH, 1:30 of Steam Engine.
I've thought about it some more and I have finally decided that they will and should play Mahgeetah.
They are going to play O.
They definitely have a strong following, but still relatively small, especially for Conan. I am sure they love their followers, but i wouldn't think that they would cater to them and play something other than a song off Z. Still gotta make them dollers
QuoteThey definitely have a strong following, but still relatively small, especially for Conan. I am sure they love their followers, but i wouldn't think that they would cater to them and play something other than a song off Z. Still gotta make them dollers
but aren't they promoting Okonokos not Z? could just be me. even if it is all about the dolla dolla bill y'all.
I'm going with Gideon, but would love Steam Engine.
Nothing from early albums, with the exception of O, because its on Okonokos, a rarity for the public and rocking and short enough for tv.
Hell, we can hope its a new song we've never heard. I doubt it though.
Top picks
O
It Beats 4 U
or even Where to Begin
It would be nice if they showed the world their soft side for a change of pace.......
Brad's guesses...
It Beats For You
What A Wonderful Man
XMas Curtain
QuoteIt would be nice if they showed the world their soft side for a change of pace.......
NO!!!!!!!!! R.O.C.K and do it hard. I want to see Patricks drum kit explode into a million little pieces. Actually, I don't want to see it because I want the fog and Jim's skeleton boots to be in the way! ;D
I'm hardcore because I have to leave the computer so I can see Pete's drum kit in the back of Conan during the molouge (sp). Anyway, I'll be back............I'm back and it looks like Bo's keys are not suited for Rocking, it could be something a little softer. Man, I wish Patrick still had this bear on his drum kit..................

Best one ever!!! Whoever it was that said he should get "gummie bears" as the logo on the bass drum is genius. They need to wait untill they are playing on Leno though. Alright, time to download some porn, just enough time to skip Martha and be back for the sweet rock action. :-*
Im awake for this! Excited.
richardlove is a "junior member"
but this is my favorite post of his so far....it was in the often misheard Jacket lyrics thread.
off the record:"push yourself too far and i might get hard."
Is Martha Stewart the devil? :o
This show is painful to watch.
During the intro I didn't see the bear with the red blazer or the wolly mammoth ... they must be taking the night off. They've been rocking pretty hard in DC the past two nights.
haha, I think shes really cute/sweet..thanks for the acknowledgment "sweatboard."

You should try PORN...............but only after you have completly gotten Martha out of your head.
That was really smooth when she "casually" mentioned that she donated $1,000,000 to the hospital and shamelessly promoted every product that she could squeeze in. What a piece of shit. She makes me sick.
I need MMJ so I can go to sleep happy. :)
I'd like to see Oprah and Martha get it on.
Haha! That would be hot. ;D

Last minute pick: Xmas Curtain
WTF? Did yours cut off the beginning?
He's got the skeletor boots!!!
Not my favorite song, but oh well.
What happened to the begining?
That was honestly pretty lame. I still love you though MMJ, don't take it personally.
the boots are killer where do I buy some ... ?
did anyone notice a lil rashness in Jim's Voice he sounded better in Austin ,, just my .02
Those boots! And Jim's little "heavy legs" move.
So do bands just set up and do one song cold and take off on these shows or do they play more for the audiences?
one of the last songs i would have picked
the sound sounded rather muffled
oh well .. ill pop in okonokos
QuoteWhat happened to the begining?
What do you mean?
Honestly, they should've picked a more lengthy one to rock out on. WAWM is AWESOME live, but it's more of a supplement to the full rock show. They shoulda done Lay Low.
Still not the best Conan performance, but rocking nonetheless.
Go skeleton boots.
My wife's favorite on her birthday! :D
QuoteThat was honestly pretty lame. I still love you though MMJ, don't take it personally.
I hate to...but I agree.
was a lackluster performance, given the opportunty to share so much
I still LOVE those guys so much
but it was not a good performance
Gregg, I gotta give a shout out for the Tar Heels. They kicked ass earlier tonight. Are you an alum?
I have nothing but nasty things to say to those making negative comments.
QuoteThat was honestly pretty lame. I still love you though MMJ, don't take it personally.
Dude............any performance by MMJ is far from "lame". The boots and his dance were rockin. I need a pair of boots like that.

The first minute of the broadcast was just a black screen with an NBC Screen saver going.
That was a little to quick I barely got hard I might have to pop in the Okonokos. The little Jam section ruled though....Jim let the feedback roll for a nice long time and then just basically got the fuck down. Nice shot with Bo's reflection in the keys and good shot of the boots, lack of smoke machine smoke was dissapointing.
Gideon w/ Boston Pops was the most amazing late night appearance. I was just expecting more ... so far, they have exceeded my highest expectations every time I've heard them, but tonight that was not the case.
I think it was the most important television event since the Beatles were on Ed Sullivan. Thanks for the late night rock and roll and I love you guys. (but not enough cigarette smoke)

Ha, In your face.
They cant play for very long...they are limited, and since they are trying to promote the LIVE albumn, I thought it was a great pick. Did seem a little lackluster, but still SOUNDED great...
What better way to have your name condemned to the firey bowels of hell by a slew of people you don't even know, than by saying My Morning Jacket put on a "lame performance" in the presence of not only those baptized in the holy reverb, but in the presence of the Jacketed Vikings, those personally knighted by the Lords' themselves.
But I forgive all of you... and will pray that mercy be bestowed upon you.

I see them tomorrow night....A very rainy, stormy night....I CAN'T WAIT!
That's right, Deez called it. "Wonderful Man" may not be everyone's favorite, but they always rock it out, and that's really what we want right? They got-it-ooon! Never lame and never the same after some Jacket. Wooohoo!
That's about the last song I would have picked, but I always enjoy watching them. To those who called the performance "lame", you won't get any shit from me. I wouldn't use that strong of words, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. Not being able to admit that your favorite band can have an off night every once in awhile makes you look silly. OBH on Conan and Gideon on Letterman set the bar very high, and IMO this one fell far short of those two.

I loved it. I have been up for 8 straight hours watching it over and over and over again. I have shit my pants once and peed 2x. I am dried out (for now). My mother is driving up from Mississippi this afternoon to hold me while we both watch it. I quit my job. I am never leaving the house again. All I am going to do for the rest of my life is watch that clip; the greatest, single moment in rock history.
And don't tell me how much I am
supposed to enjoy something; especially when my whole life is wrapped up in the bliss I receive when I watch it. That's a little fucking self righteous, dude.
Great, I just peed in my pants to.
First the great Holiday and then the masked Anytime and now the booted Wonderful. Conan shows rule Even over the letterman Gideon ..But I think thats the way they should be ranked.
I was sure they would play Xmas song.
i think that performance was lacking a little bit, but when people perform on shows like conan or leno or whatever, there are so many factors that are completely out of the band's control. also, have they stopped putting reverb on jim's voice as of late?
Quotealso, have they stopped putting reverb on jim's voice as of late?

that performance was night right at all. very muffled indeed. carl needed to be turned up a little bit. although i loved the beginging of the first chorus. jim freaked. and tommy looked sweet. definatly the worst of the 3 conan performances.

a friend of mine talked to Jim several years ago after they did OBH on Conan. evidently they had to be at the studio at 9 am and rehearse the song 8-9 times so the crew could get the camera angles and other TV "stuff" down.

thought the performance was great...I personally like the song but to each his own....
WAWM is by far my favorite song on Z.
I almost peed myself when I heard the first licks.
But c'mon. That sound was horrible. Band looked tight, but something was horribly wrong in the mixing or some other such technidoodle-sumthin'-or-another.
Muffled indeed. Somebody screwed the pooch and denied the Jacket some new converts. Jim, I have no experience, but hire me and I will make sure that never happens again.
*duck*
looks like a pretty good quality video of the performance just popped up on DIME:

Yeah. Me too. All that stuff... I just worry about the folks seeing Jacket for the first time, that don't recognize that the less than awesome parts were indeed technical difficulties...
What song was it that he was prancing around with those boots like a chicken or something in DC? That would have been hilarious to see on TV.
Somehow one of my friends I was with at the DC show got one of Hallahan's drumsticks. I think he has been worshiping it. We're talking about building an altar to place it on. Maybe burn some incense, thank the Gods for the blessing that is this band's existence!

Honestly though, there were some kind of technical difficulties. Something wasn't right. The reverb definitely wasn't how it was supposed to be. As for the song, not my favorite, but I would still have loved it if things had gone smoothly.
Yeah, so, uh... burn in hell.

It got to long for me to read, haha. Anywhere I can watch it?
I think it's on that list of videos. I will have to search for it and get back to you. Unless someone beats me to it.
TBH Wonderful Man wasn't one of my favorite songs...but they rocked the f*ck out of it. I didn't even notice technical difficulties because it was f*cking great. Patrick Hallahan looked like he was about to explode...not to mention the part where Jim James held out the feedback and did the heavy boots.....probably my favorite CoNAN performance I've seen. And is it just me or does Carl seem to be going more and more crazy everytime I see them. When they played Anytime he was kind of goin crazy but this time he was just beyond craziness into the realm of........pure crazial bliss.
