Post by: NoVa_NoLa on May 16, 2007, 12:53 AM
I am just getting in from the ALO/Brett Dennen show and may be too happy to see that this was  already posted...but after spending the last two weeks in NoLa, I am more than happy to start palnning a trip back. =)

Apologies if this was already posted.

New Orleans Benefit
05/16/07
.
(PR) New Orleans created American music. Now a group of musicians including the Indigo Girls, OK GO's Damian Kulash, My Morning Jacket's Jim James, San Francisco singer Matt Nathanson and New Orleans' legends Al "Carnival Time" Johnson and Bonearama will help recreate the devastated city by playing a benefit concert to fund housing for the city's struggling musicians and artists.
It will be a loose and fun show with each artist performing a few songs with many of them sitting in on each other's songs. The full billing will be released closer to the concert, which will take place at Tipitina's Uptown on Sunday, May 27.

The concert is being presented by the Future of Music Coalition and Air Traffic Control. Proceeds will benefit Sweet Home New Orleans, a coalition of non-profit organizations that helps find affordable housing in New Orleans and provides rental assistance for Katrina displaced musicians, Mardi Gras performers and other traditional New Orleans artists.

Prior to the event, a group of musicians will tour New Orleans on Saturday to see the damage left by Hurricane Katrina and the rebuilding that still needs to be done. They include Jim James from My Morning Jacket and Sandy Pearlman, the producer of the Blue Oyster Cult.

My Morning Jacket man for New Orleans benefit
OK Go's Damian Kulash will also perform

Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Damian Kulash of Ok Go and The Indigo Girls have all been confirmed to for 'Musicians Bringing Home Musicians II' a show to benefit the rebuilding of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

The acts will take to the stage on May 27 at Tiptina's Uptown in New Orleans, and in addition to their own slots, are expected to contribute to each other's performances.

Proceeds fron the event will benefit Sweet Home New Orleans, a coalition of non-profit organizations that helps find affordable housing in New Orleans and provides rental assistance for Katrina displaced musicians, Mardi Gras performers and other traditional New Orleans artists.

"It's a great place for musicians to focus on community, both because we owe so much to that city for a century of incredible music, and because the local musicians there need our help right now," said Damian Kulash.

Last year's 'Musicians Bringing Musicians Home' featured performances by Steve Earle and Mike Mills of REM.

'Musicians Bringing Home Musicians II' will take place May 27.

Yeah, thanks CC.  The preview really puts things into perspective.  I think most people have forgotten how bad things still are down there.

two of my close friends went (I couldn't go because i'm in school and had to be back) and they said he only played like 3 songs.  BUT, as Tip's is such a small/incredible venue, they went up to the VIP section and got Jim's attention and he came and said hello and took pictures.  as happy as I am for them, i'm heart-broken that i didn't get to meet him.  perhaps one day it'll happen, for now here's a pic of the love of my life with the jimster right after his set.  oh yeah, she told me that she told jim he was her "who i'd like to meet" on myspace and now she has to change it!
