Could someone reputable spill the goods PLEASE
please please tell me where you heard this
please please be true
Well, I was hoping they'd do a "solo" show. It could work...their ACL show is on Sunday and Stubb's calendar is free for Saturday.

crossing fingers!
I remember hearing on another board that the Saturday aftershow slot at Stubbs had not been filled, which was strange.
I just checked their website, and Saturday is still blank. Sunday is the White Stripes.

It's probably undeservedly the premier venue in Austin. I don't like it because they have a decibel and curfew law in downtown Austin for outside music venues.
What time is the curfew for outside music venues in downtown Austin?
I believe at about 10:00 pm that the decibel restrictions near residential neighborhoods becomes so constrictive that you can't really hold a concert.
You are allowed 85 decibels before then measured from the entrance. I've read that 85db is about 4 times the level of a regular conversation, 65db.

The layout also sucks. Its long and skinny, and the band is far away. I always thought they should move the stage to the I-35 side, so everybody can be close.
Tiny clubs aside, I think the Back Yard is the best place to see a show. You can always get a good spot, and never have to be a prick to do so.
But, I will still be there if MMJ shows up! Please please please!
Perhaps they are waiting until the date gets closer...so that they dont cannabilize traffic from the festival. Disproving my own point, they did not wait to annouce the White Stripes show.....
Perhaps, they are working up a Dallas date. We usually get some spillover from the festival (Wilco and Bloc Party this year, as examples), and the company that books Stubbs, now books the House of Blues (and used to book the defunct Gypsy Tea Room, RIP)....
So to make a long story short, if it aint in Austin, give us a warmup show in Dallas!

The HOB in Dallas is booked from 9/13-23. The Granada is booked 9/14&15.
That is some good sleuthing....I should have looked...
But, you forgot about the Palladium (which is booked by another group, but oh well)
They are open on 9/15 - Saturday Night.

wow. dallas saturday night.
i will be in dallas on saturday.
this, of course, would RULE HARD.
Just got this reply email from Mike, MMJ's manager, in asking about another Austin show:
Thanks for reaching out to us.
Unfortunately, we're not going to be doing another show in Austin around ACL.
Kind Regards,
Mike
My Morning Jacket's Manager
"in Austin"? So Dallas or other Texas cities could be an option. How does one contact Mike for a followup?

I sent him a follow up email asking him about other possible Texas shows around ACL. Waiting to hear back....
Why would they do another Texas show if they can't do an Austin aftershow.?
Logistically it is easier on the band. It is less expensive for the band.
If the band does another show before the Austin show, they get to knock the rust off, and get back in the groove when they are not on a more traditional tour. I think I heard a little rust at Lollapalooza.
Same question remains, why not do it in Austin on Thurs, Fri, or Sat.
But who knows, they might. They seem like they enjoy playing Dallas. One of the few cities to get back to back shows last tour.
Q: Does that also rule out any other shows in Texas around ACL?
A: "After they play this show, they're going to be taking some time off and then start working on a new album. So, they'll unfortunately not be doing another show anywhere after ACL for thé rest of the year."
Well...I'm definitely choosing MMJ over seeing Wilco for the 1st time. Last chance to see them for about 1/2 yr.

A: "After they play this show, they're going to be taking some time off and then start working on a new album. But not before they head up to Canada and play a string of shows for Canadians only. So, they'll unfortunately not be doing another show, other than Canada, anywhere after ACL for thé rest of the year."
drat.
i bought into this rumour mill.
perhaps these newly released 3-day passes will be worth it then!
:)
p.s. how did that little accent get above the letter e up there? somebody using a french keyboard? a CANADIAN?? ;)
well bummer...kind of knew about no more shows until 2008, but was hoping for an after-festival show. Well we can now all hope for Wilco....they are in Dallas on the 14th and play the festival on the 16th...... ::)
