Apparently ACL was not really the last show this year......

Wow, I hope they make a movie out of this.
QuoteWow, I hope they make a movie out of this.
exactly what i was thinking ::)
not fair.
sooooo NOT fair....
Hey Sean, are you going to try and go to this?
Newbie here...
From Rollingstone.com
"My Morning Jacket, the Roots, J Mascis and more will play a show together on November 8th for "I'm Not There: In Concert a Celebration of Todd Haynes' Film" at New York's Beacon Theatre. The lineup also includes Calexico and Cat Power."
And how.
QuoteAnd how.
You dog. :) Bookeaters and now this.
I am still really sad about this and I know it's just a small shared performance and it's not fair to be envious of the NYC'rs but I somewhat feel cheated they can make it to this and not home...
Quotebut I somewhat feel cheated they can make it to this and not home...
Now you know how the rest of the world outside the US feels sometimes ;)
For example, did the Jacket take the time to visit their fans in the Netherlands last time they were in Europe? Have they made up the for the Australian dates that got canceled?
Or the UK shows that got 'postponed' over a year ago?
No, but they've had a couple of rocking proms in the US!
I'm not bitching or saying that any of these decisions were wrong. Who are we to judge the bands actions/decisions?
The band thought they wouldn't be playing any more shows this year but then this came up. It's a great opportunity for them, one they'd be very foolish to turn down.
Anyway, that's one hell of a line up! The Roots playing Dylan?!!
Like BH said, fingers crossed they'll be a movie/DVD.
Got some Awesome seats at the B.O. earlier, front row center :o TBCU!!! Thanks 4 the heads up.
Yankee Bastard! ;)
Seriously, front row center?!! You are so da man TK!!! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
I do understand db, I'm just being a selfish american, you understand how easy it is for us to do that...
QuoteGot some Awesome seats at the B.O. earlier, front row center :o TBCU!!! Thanks 4 the heads up.
Sean, you willing to tape it if I send you my gear?

Win Tix To Dylan Tribue Concert

Story by: Kevin Kampwirth
I'm Not There, Todd Haynes' upcoming biopic-of-sorts, which was inspired by the life and music of Bob Dylan, will be celebrated in concert this Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Beacon Theatre in New York. The show will feature many of the artists that contributed to the film's soundtrack including My Morning Jacket, Yo La Tengo, Mark Lanegan and J Mascis. As usual, CMJ is here for you. Just e-mail contest@cmj.com by noon tomorrow (November 6) with the subject line "I'm Not There," and you and a friend could very well be there Wednesday night if yours is one of the five randomly selected entries. Transportation and lodging is not included, but surely that's a small price to pay to hear John Doe, Calexico and the Roots pay tribute to one of the greatest songwriters of all time. You're still a winner even if you buy tickets as all profits from the concert will go to benefit 826 National, the tutorial nonprofit organization started by Dave Eggers that helps kids ages 6-18 with reading and writing skills. The movie opens nationwide on November 21 and its soundtrack is out now.

So besides Acapulco, mmj played one song? I guess if they played more, it would have been an extremely long show...
once again the boys were the stars of the night. first Jim with Calexico for Going To Acapulco and then again later in the night when all of MMJ came out Tonight I Will be Staying Here With You.
as soon as mmj was done the director of the movie came out and was pretty much like holy shit, thank you so much.
very fun night.

This review says that the show was mediocre but Jim and Calexico were a highlight. I'm glad someone agrees that Jim singing Going to Acapulco is heavenly.

Can Colleen post upload the original video by chance and not just the youtube. I can't stand how youtube pixelates the crape out of videos and the sound is always off.
Thanks and glad you guys had fun!

Hey, hold the phone. There was a much better "audio" version of acapulco on one of those blogs that Laurie posted. Use that one. If it's gone, I have it on my computer at home. Let me know. I will check as well and post the link if it's still there.

:o :o :D HOT DOG!!
that was GORGEOUS! THANK YOU for sharing that. whew!
and i love the cameos at the end of the clip. ;)
I just want to make it clear that I'm not knocking the audio on coleen's video. It's actually some of the best sound I have heard from a small camera like that. It's just that the link on the blog sounds like it came from something really really good.
Is it just me or does Jim kinda look like a truck driver with his new look? I love the guy, but he looks like a truck driver. ;)

I think he looks a LOT like Ron Burgundy in the picture below. I usually don't comment on the boys hair, clothes, or the perkiness of their asses, but I don't know if this is Jim's best look.
I think he looks like david crosby... only skinny.
Not in the slightest bit worried about Jim's hair/beard/bum...I just think he looks weird holding a tele!
I really wanna hear how The Roots rocked "Masters of War"!!!
QuoteI really wanna hear how The Roots rocked "Masters of War"!!!

Oh Hell Yes!! Fucking Beautiful!!!!
That was totally awesome....
A. There were three or four moments when I heard Sean express himself and it made me grin from ear to ear.
B. Colleen's editing with the cameraphone was superb! I'm so glad that someone with an "eye" was shooting that. Very nice framing. I love you guys!!!!!
C. I can't express just how cool it is to see that performance and also have a feel for the people capturing it. I was blown away right along with you guys.
Nice!!!!!! BRAVO!!! :) :) :) :)

Also from The Daily Herald
Yes, Dylan is certainly that, a choice that always kept the music from being boring. "I'm Not There," especially at an exhaustive 135 minutes, doesn't have that luxury. It is telling that the only genuine moment of the film does not come from Haynes' hallucinatory camera angles or cute juxtapositions, but from a single performance of a single Dylan song from a single musician -- Jim James of the band My Morning Jacket who makes "Going to Acapulco" soar with a voice that is heartbreaking.
