Does anyone have any idea who possible tour openers may be? Anyone MMJ has been kickin it with?
Sounds like The Whigs would be a good opener, label mates and all. My dream would be Yeasayer though...fresh new band that you MUST check out. I listened to them and thought they would be a perfect opener for The Jacket.
Yeasayer. That would be perfect.
You guys wanna hear a great opener for the boys?? Check out the new Howlin' Rain disk. Magnificent Fiend.
THE HELIO SEQUENCE
You guys mind directing me toward some Howlin' Rain or Yeasayer? Both are bands I have heard a good bit about lately, but I have none of their tunes.
I think Dead Confederate would be a solid opener. Whigs are pretty good live (I prefer the studio), but I think DC would better feed into Jacket's sound, and they just flat out rock.
QuoteTHE HELIO SEQUENCE
I would enjoy that thoroughly
i've yet to see them
Amazon and I-tunes both have great samples top hear. Stereogum as well. think CCR mixed with Blind Faith mixed with the Boredoms.
Dead Confederate AND the Whigs are both Athens, Ga. bands.... Homies!!!!!

Could not agree with this anymore...Howlin' Rain is where it is at...no idea how more people don't know about these guys.
all bands mentioned sound good to me especially Dead Confederate and Yeahsayer.
i also wouldn't mind Okkervill River or The Bees.
I would like something subtle, and a bit more quiet as a nice contrast, like Ray LaMontangne, or some other up and comer singer songwriter that might do a nice solo type show.
Felice Brothers would be great too.
Wax Fang!!!!
QuoteWax Fang!!!!
I think I would be alright with that. ;)

yes. I saw them open for kings of Leon and they were great. We also talked to them after the show and they're nice guys to boot!

At the Ryman? MY brother and I also met them while they were selling their merch. Real nice guys, and I thought they were a better opener than the Secret Machines.
My vote goes to this chick named Meghan Hamiltin or somethin like that...

Felice Brothers would be great too.
damn right.
I don't understand why people like the Whigs. After watching a mind blowing set by the opener, Wax Fang, the Whigs didn't sound appealing at all. I had to leave after the second song, which was too bad for the Whigs because I'm pretty sure my girlfriend and I were the last two non-band members there.

Wait which band is like CCR w/ Blind Faith????
I am a huge Blind Faith fan so anything like them I need to hear it...
I just listened to 2 songs by Dead Confederate and 2 by Yeahsayer and I really didnt hear any BF (but that could just be me)
I think MMJ has reached that "Bruce Springsteen" point where they don't need an opening band. They should just play for four hours.
:P
even though Wax Fang already toured with them, they are and will be the best openers for MMJ always! both bands fucking rock their asses off! Fang needs to get signed!

i second that emotion.

YES YES YES!!
i think these guys are so well suited to play with mmj!
full disclosure: have seen them 4 times since october and have listened to their new album at least once a day since it was released.
and they
are nice guys!
I'd go for some Guillemots?
Detroit Octane.....obviously
Me ;)
VHS Or Beta
The best opener for MMJ I ever saw would have to be Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!
Wax Fang was second best, probably.
Stoll Vaughan was excellent, too, but he talked too fucking much.
Moses Mayfield rocked out, too.

really?? I saw the Whigs open up twice for the Drive-By Truckers and they were awesome....I think they would be perfect for MMJ....or how about the Truckers...that would be a ridiculous ROCK SHOW.
I'll be just fine w/ the Black Keys sticking around for the entire tour... ;D
Better yet... the reunited Blind Melon?
You're all going to be disappointed because I'm pretty sure it's the Jonas Brothers.

black keys would be badass. im really looking into the possibility of going to that colorado show.
Kathleen Edwards on the Z tour was an INCREDIBLE opener.
Lou Reed. ;)
I've been thinking about this and I think Menomena would be a really good opening band for MMJ. They do things that MMJ has toyed with (Dondante) and are a band a little under the radar that I think a lot of people would like. They have some shows on archive.org for people whom are not introduced to them. The Black Keys however would be fine as well.
Kathleen Edwards was a really good opener though that tour I must agree.

Howlin' Rain... They're yummy but i caught the show in Atlanta a few weeks ago and was a lil' disappointed. they only played 6 songs as the headliner. like a 30 minute set. I think the music is great but sounded a lil muddy live. Maybe the guy, Ethan Miller , can't sustain the screamin' for much more than that.
QuoteKathleen Edwards on the Z tour was an INCREDIBLE opener.
Just saw her last night and it was amazing. It
would be a perfect opener.
Menomena has my thumbs up.
Tim Fite, he's a young white dude that throws a new spin on hip-hop. Easy_Jim and myself saw him open for Ben Kweller and after the show he was waiting outside the door cutting up a watermelon and passing it out to us and the other concert goers. Very unique.

Check that.....BEN KWELLER should open. He's got a new country album coming out sometime in the near future.

And Cut Copy just had a new synth rock album just come out...whats your point?

Didn't know I needed one. I admire their work and would like to see them open for Jacket.
THAT is my point.
Broken Social Scene present Brendan Canning is coming out soon. That would be be an awesome one two punch if BSS opened!
