Title: Your personal favorite of Jim's T-Shirts.
Post by: sweatboard on Jul 28, 2006, 05:50 PM
Current standings

Black Beauty - 1
Tropical Palms  - 9
Somebody Loves Me - 3
The (Sexual) Predator - 0
Red Suit - 1

I think this pretty much covers them......

Here we have "Black Beauty" 05/06 Tour

"Tropical Palms" 04 Tour

"Somebody Loves Me" The Old Stand By
(http://www.mymorningjacket.com/Gallery/2003/bonna-05s.jpg)

Personally, for me....nothing really captures the feel of the whole MMJ experience like the "Tropical Palms" shirt.  It's damn sexy and it seems to say........."Come with me to a secret magical paradise kind of place" .Plus it fits really well.

Did You Know?
"Black Beauty" can actually be spotted all the way back to the year 2000.  I thought it was something that was brand new for the Z tour.  It turns out I was wrong (apparantly it was just put on hiatus).

Yeah, you know what's up.  If Jim ever auctions that shirt off on ebay for charity or something I'm going to buy it and eat it.

A. I'm going to count that as a vote for "Somebody Loves Me"

B. No you can't have one.  It was created by GOD for only Jim to wear, that's why it never has to be washed and it doesn't get lost, stained, faded, or ripped.........Sorry about that.  Also, some people might think that Jim has 18 diffrent versions for each of his three shirts, but this is not true, he only has ONE of each.....and no washing machine. :o

I saw this coming from a mile away.........No Love for "Black Beauty"  The thing about "Black Beauty" though, is that there is really not much to say about it.  It's just BLACK....................
and Beautiful.  There in lies the beauty of "Black Beauty" and the statement it makes.  It says absolutly NOTHING yet it says EVERYTHING.

What about this one Brian?

I've seen it a couple other places too (for instance, when I saw him walking around Asheville).

It's pretty sweet...anyone have a clearer picture?

Also, my vote goes for the tropical t-shirt.  Only because it was THE ONE that got wet during Steam Engine at Bonnaroo.  Woo!
Title: Re: Your personal favorite of Jim's T-Shirts.
Post by: sweatboard on Jul 29, 2006, 05:16 PM
Ah Yes, "The Predator"  I don't really know what's on that T-Shirt but for some reason it makes me think of The Predator thus the name "The Predator".  I think that must be the shirt Jim wears when he's not actually playing a show.  This would explain him wearing it around Asheville and to The Epiphone Factory.  I'm not sure it's going to recieve many votes seeing how it has what I like to refer to as "a physically painful combination of colors" going on but I'll add it to the list.  Thanks,

Brian

He has to wear those at the Astoria!

Tropical Palms - I first layed eyes on this beauty during the solo Steam Engine and I was in love.

How about the new Mt. Rushmore/fireworks gem from the recent solo tour?  A nod to a better presidential era?

Also a nod to a complete miscalculation on what would be appealing to ones visual senses.  I don't see this one breaking into the rotation anytime soon.  I'm betting this was a one time deal.  Someone probably gave it to him for his birthday or something.  Hey, there is an idea mabey for Jim's birthday we could all send him our favorite T-Shirt.

I'll be sending this one............

That's the best point I've heard all day.  "Black Beauty" scoffs at your votes.  By not voteing for "Black Beauty" you are in fact actually voting FOR it.  Good Point Deanna.

that shirt IS a license to be a man. ;)

i have a tie, but it's a conditional tie:
it is between the birmingham t shirt and the tropical palms, but ONLY (and this is the conditional part) if worn as a 2piece fashion extravaganza with a certain FANCY vest - for details, please see pics from charlottesville on january 23, 2004.  a night to remember, obviously.

I dont know if Jim's San Francisco shirt has ever been worn on stage, but I really dig that one. //http://www.mymorningjacket.com/cgi-local/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=offtopic;action=display;num=1141824688;start=15// You can see it in this thread. And much to my surprise I found one very similar at a thrift store about a month ago :(http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i178/jeff79ro/HPIM0716.jpg)
But much to my disappointment I got the damn thing home and its to small. Its says L but fits more like a M. So if anyone digs this shirt and would like to formulate a small trade( really small shirt only cost $1) I will take offers.

I happen to really like this look
(http://www.mymorningjacket.com/Gallery/buffalo-03s.jpg)

I like the color scheme of the tropical palms, but it reminds me of a shirt my dad used to wear when I was a kid. That kind of takes the coolness down a notch or two...or ten.

I think my vote would have to go to the Somebody loves me shirt.

The mountain to which that is carved on is the holy lands of the plains natives, particularly the Lakota.   That monument is a terrible smack in the face to all people of native life and culture.  It is a symbol of hatred and racism and anyone who thinks otherwise really should think twice before singing the national anthem or pledge of allegience.  To think this is a nation based of liberty and justice really needs to think about the people they displaced and who were here first in perfect harmony.
I envision it somewhat like this
"hey jimbo lets kick these dirt-worshippin prairie niggers off their land, stick them in little plots of land, expect them conform to our beliefs and carve our leaders faces to look down on their culture and laugh at the misfortune we gave them!"

I would hope to think Jim is either too ignorant and misinformed of what this 'monument' really means, and is part of the commonplace belief that the native american population is just a thing of the past, a piece of history and an emblem on your favorite sports team, or something I surely hope not....a bigot American.
Fuck Mount Rusmore.

thanks for the education.  i didn't know that.  i'm sure Jim doesn't know that either.  that isn't taught here in KY.  so maybe pissing in his water may be a little drastic.

One more lesson for the day! I'm glad you now know though.  I blame the government for not informing people.
That isnt taught anywhere actually, maybe more closer to those midwest states where native culture is more prominent, but im from D.C. basically and the most we learned was the silly Disney Pocahantas story and a brief mentioning of the trail of tears, but we are all taught this at a young enough age that it doesnt make an impact on us and we forget about it.  How clever.  And I never knew that native american wore paper grocery bags as clothes when they were little 'uns.
I'm just hoping Jim is in the same boat as you are in though, considering hes a KY fellow too.

And the fact the US government is still oppressing the natives? Or rather, not doing anything to help them today.  The statue is symbolic of the actions still happening at this very instant.  I'm not attempting to call Jim a racist, but I find it offensive for him to wear such a shirt.

I'm not meaning the tshirt for your rhetoric (if i understand you correctly) I'm meaning the government and the education system of teaching the american people about the people who were first here.  I feel it is inadequate to teach children about the natives at the k-5 level.  Nothing is soaked.  I think the most that we can remember from that is they ate food with the Pilgrims and shot bows and arrows.  'Wow, quite a civilization we had here in the states!   I'm glad they arnt out there anymore out to pillage my log cabin and rape my wife and kids! '

Bonanza! :P

My favorite, however, is the "eat the worm" shirt. Especially with the sombrero.

I also like the suits. Very bad ass.
