MMJ at MSG NYE for those who cannot see.

Holy @#$%!

I was so hoping that they would repeat the Fillmore appearance in SF but alas, they are attracting bigger crowds. So what's the 411 on Madison Square Garden? What's the good/bad of them being at this venue?

Already going to see them 2 nights in Chicago and once in San Diego...would love to go to NY but want to make sure I find enough change in my couch first!

The good is MSG is one of the most famous places in the world, and the bad is you probably have to get to NYC 2 days early on NYE to make it to the show on time. That place is crazy with the ball drop and everything.  :D

it's a long and sordid tale. when the album title was first released and everyone was commenting on the fact that it was indeed going to be called "evil urges" i posted in some thread that it reminded me of "thrusting in someone's face." it makes zero sense but that's what the two words "evil urges" mean to me. however, it has since spiraled out of control and now we use "thrusting in your face" to mean things that are awesome, ways to cool down, or just ways to get BUCK. sometimes, if it's a rather clear and cool morn, i might say, "looks like a great day to thrust in someone's face." it's taken on a life of its own. so i really can't wait to bring thrusting to new year's eve. it's going to be tight.  :-*

My Morning Jacket Plans New Year's At MSG

June 12, 2008, 12:10 PM ET

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
As expected, My Morning Jacket will play an "evening with" New Year's Eve concert on Dec. 31 at New York's Madison Square Garden, in what will be the band's biggest headlining show to date.

Tickets for the event go on sale June 27. The show extends an MMJ New Year's tradition, which most recently featured a covers-packed show at San Francisco's Fillmore as 2006 crossed into 2007. The band performed tracks like Lionel Richie's "All Night Long," Prince's "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man" and George Michael's "Careless Whisper," among other oddities.

Meanwhile, MMJ is expected to post its best Billboard 200 chart position and first-week sales total next week with "Evil Urges" (ATO), its fifth studio album. The group is one of the centerpieces of this weekend's Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tenn., where it will play a midnight to 3 a.m. set on Saturday morning.

"The greatest thing about live music is that it's something you can't replicate," frontman Jim James tells Billboard. "It's something very communal, and I think society is lacking that. People are so alienated and trapped in their little cubicles with their computers and texting devices. When you go to a big concert and you're in a room with a bunch of other humans, I think that's really healthy."

Not to be a skeptic, but I am in this case regarding whether this will sell out or not. Bigger bands have played MSG on NYE and not sold it out. I know MMJ have a great following in NYC, so I hope they can do it, although going it alone is risky.

Seriously, NYC for NYE? That's a helluva serious cash cow.

Can we at least get a live video feed or something?  I'm sure Wizz can hook us up with another fine bar to enjoy it live-time over on this other coast - and for so many in the middle, too!!  PRETTY PLEASE!!!! :-/

I used hotels.com and I'll be at the Renaissance Meadowlands Hotel... says its across the street from a bus stop to get into the city... probably just get a cab or a limo service to get back that night after the show.

NYC peeps--
I'm considering coming in from TX for this show. What are the odds of scoring a hotel in Manhattan? Do you think MMJ will play another show before or after the MSG show? I'd hate to book my flight and hotel and miss another show in the city. Thanks!

I'm not from NYC but I think I can answer a few of your questions.

Booking a hotel in Manhattan should be easy right now, if you don't mind spending at least $400 a night.

In regards to you missing the show, MSG is friggin' huge so I don't think getting tickets will be a problem.

MSG's website... has a great seating chart where if you click on the section it shows you the exact sight lines of that section. Same as the Radio City website.

also, try the Sheraton in Weehawken (right across the water) or the hotels in Jersey City

The best part about this news?

Once again for PHISH fans their dreams of this year being the big New Year's Eve Madison Square Garden Reunion show are dashed onto the rocks of despair and sadness![/size]

I don't think many phans thought they would be back at MSG for NYE, we all know they will be back in the spring/summer of 2009 - and I will be at as many shows as I can...

Has anyone here ever been to a show at MSG on New Years Eve?  It is difficult to get to the venue due to streets being closed for times square?  In particular is it difficult to get from Grand Central to MSG?  Thanks for any info.

its not difficult at all. all the madness is right around times square, there won't be avenues closed by the garden. i would say head south from grand central and then west to the garden. dont head west first, you'll run smack into all the crazies.

Now I know why I pay so much to live in the NYC area! For rare opportunities like this. I will be in the muthaf*ckin Heezy.

Yeah definitely get into the city early but stay south of 42nd street. You should be good to go for the night.

I NEED PASSWORDS FOR PRESALE!!!

Would anybody here know anything about either presale passwords or presale ticket limits? Hopefully they won't limit the presale to 2 tickets since I need 4, but MSG being such a big place I doubt there'd be a limit.
