Title: Amsterdam, 8th of july
Post by: Pjetrol on Jul 04, 2008, 07:23 AM
Hi there,

Is anybody planning on taping (audio and/or video) the whole show in de Melkweg in Amsterdam next week? I would if I had the equipment, but I don't, and shaking around with a mobile isn't an option ;-)
Hope to see a large and happy crowd!

grtz,

P.

Hey, it's not New Orleans ;-)
Ok, let me rephrase that sentence: "Hope to see a large and sexy crowd." But then again, dutch people are pretty large and  Amsterdam girls damn sexy!

I was really surprised at how early Amsterdam shuts down at night .... I would have thought it was a major party town, raging until the wee hours of the night .....

... Then I realized that everyone who would be out partying all night is so stoned, they can't keep their eyes open past midnight .....

dont know about taping, but I do know I'm so damn excited watching their gig tonight in A'dam!!
Have been warmed up with Radiohead and REM last week in A'dam, where especially Radiohead was amazing. Performing outside, sun going down and they are playing a fantastic set outside. But lets keep short, I'm sure you're not interested in these fab five. Instead in the other fab five... Hope the group also will enjoy their stay and gig in A'dam!

thnxs EgoTesticle! Having just read a interview in a daily national newspaper (volkskrant) with jim james and carl broemer makes me even more looking forward (the're apologizing for performing in holland just after 5 years -besides the accoustic performance from jim and carl last month-).

Haldon, I will do my best, spotting your 5 friends (focussing on 2 beautiful blonds...) and giving them your hello's!

What an amazing gig it was in The Melkweg in A'dam! Just got back, still full of adrenaline (trying to doze it with vodka). Cannot remember the entire setlist (will be soon in the archive) but the guys gave everything! They kept on playing and playing, as if they wanted to make something good to holland (not playing here so long). They opened (after a brilliant jazzy intro) with Evil Urges and closed the first section (of course) with "smoking/touch me part II". Jim kept on saying "dank je wel" (thank you) and that A'dam was the centre of the universe or something. Their first extra was Jim solo, a breathtaking song (dont know the name). And then wordless chorus and the other songs similar to their gig in germany passed, finding their climax in "one big holiday".
Fantastic concert!

This show was fcking epic, with an amazing setlist. Holland was one of the first countries to fall in love with MMJ back in 2000, so they spent quite a lot of time performing here when Tennessee Fire came out. They hadn't been back for over five years, and they wanted to make up for it tonight by playing a load of Tennessee Fire songs and doing the most epic show possible, lasting over 2,5 hrs.

Highlights included a solo performance with Bermuda Highway and I Will Be There When You Die, and an amazing run of songs including I Think I'm Going To Hell, War Begun, Heartbreakin' Man, The Bear and Phone went west. Jim called Amsterdam his second home and thanked the crowd for being the first to believe in them. It was absolutely, unforgettably fcking brilliant.

It was truly amazing! One of my best concerts ever.
And you know what, they videotaped the whole thing!
Anyone more familiar with De Melkweg and what they do with these tapings? I hope they put them up on the website...
DeJonz, you said it all and I still can't believe they played I will be there when you die. I don't think they do that a lot these days...
Hope to see them again real soon!

Well, there was a camera and some extra microphones, so they did record it.
Although I can't find an announcement, I hope they put the recordings on www.fabchannel.com (where you can find tons of past concerts in Paradiso/Melkweg!).
And if I won't be able to see the concert again, I was there and it was amazing!!  \m/ 8-)

@willie:   Opening band was called 'Everest' and indeed: they were pretty good.  Jim, Carl and Bo came out and joined them for one song.

The MMJ setlist was stunning, best show I ever saw ... .

I just know MMJ for like 1,5 week or so.  :-[ :o I read very positive reviews everywhere, and I saw they were going to play in Amsterdam. So I just gave it a try and bought some tickets. Maybe one of the best decisions I made in my life  8-). Damn, was I blown away...  :'( I stood right against the stage, right before Jim. He was not even a metre in front of me. What a voice... What a guitarplaying... The sound was just perfect, the crowd, as far as I noticed was very good too. One of the best shows I ever saw... A gril next to me couldnt stop crying, so overwhelming it was. Jim was jumping and sliding at the stage. So much energy, so much passion. Never saw someone putting so much of his soul in his music, and very likely I wont see someone like this again for a long time... So thanks very much MMJ for this hell of a show, you just got a new fan  ;).

Setlist is at the forums too in another topic, I cant post links in my first post though...[/i]

Jim James has a very good Dutch accent and their show in A'dam was 'de beste ooit'.

Last night somebody posted a couple of songs on YouTube,

Although I will never forget this show, it helps to keep the memory more alive.

Thank you.
