Who else is going?
It's at the Rescue Rooms, right? Decent venue in an awesome city. . . You'll have a blast : )
goshdarnit I'm jealous of you Brits . . .
Yes its the Rescue Rooms..never been there before but my friend tells me its a good venue and quite smallish, which means that, as in Bristol, I will be really close to the band, which is nice!
Ohh boy! Rescue Rooms is a great little intimate venue, so you can get close to the action. This is gonna be my first mmj show - it's too bad no-one i know around here realises this band's greatness, so i'm going solo but still gonna rock out! 8-)
I'm going to the show tonight and cannot wait!
Rescue Rooms is a great, small venue, very intimate and I'm really pleased MMJ are playing there and not Rock City (the bigger room next door).
I saw Secret Machines at Rescue Rooms a couple of years ago and it was a great gig - I'm sure MMJ will be too!
any idea who's supporting and what time MMJ are actually on tonight?

I assume Everest are supporting - they're doing the tour with them, I think. i guess MMJ will be on about 9.00.
I'll be with EvilGirl - the tall guy down the front (hopefully) in a brown cord jacket and ten-mile smile (particularly if they play Dondante!!) ....
come and say hi,
Cheers,
John
An Evening with MMJ starts at 9 pm.
Hi,
Travelling up from near Brum - they cancelled here last time and I have played the DVD of Okonokos to death. Heard it is a great little venue.
Expect me and my wife will be the oldest there - if you see a guy with glasses and short grey hair say hello.
Wow..what a brilliant night. The evening started on a good note for me early in the evening when I saw the band walking down the street near the Rescue Rooms. I had a quick chat with Jim but didnt really like to bother them, although I wish now I had got a photo. After the show had finished I bumped into Carl and asked for his autograph. He told me he liked my t-shirt (it was a Neil Young t-shirt) and we had a chat about Hop Farm and Neil and how he was an inspiration to the band. He was lovely. The evening didnt end for me until about 4am as I met a couple of guys outside the venue and they persuaded me to go clubbing with them, so it was an excellent evening all round really!
I loved the Rescue Rooms..it is a tiny venue and only holds a couple of hundred people but has a good atmosphere. The band were amazing and Jim was on form, running up and down the stairs to the balcony whilst playing the guitar..it was great to be right up close and Jim swivelling his hips at the end of One Big Holiday certainly gave me evil urges! I managed to get a set list but some of it got ripped in the scramble. I will post the set list a bit later when I have had a chance to work it out in my head. Next stop London!
Thanks for the post EvilGirl - see you on Tuesday in London.
ps - remember the setlist when you get a chance...

Because they get 8 shows every 3 years?
Great show! Jim was awesome, he seemed really playful and happy all evening and was a true performer. The band was solid and grooved it out.
But...one gripe: i'm devastated they took phone went west and steam engine (two of my favourites :D) out of the setlist because some drunken arsehole was yelling for them constantly...and replaced them with magheeta. So, we lost two long, amazing songs for one shorter, very good song :(

Ah so thats what happened, I thought it strange that I didnt remember hearing those two songs..that guy was standing behind me and was a real pain, he was singing really loudly and really badly throughout Bermuda Highway, I'm glad he was escorted out of the building!
I wish I could have gone to this one [smiley=huh.gif]
That's a bit out. Cutting out PWW and SE just because of some moron? Plus, if he was kicked out anyway what's the problem?
Did Jim actually say "we're not playing those songs now. You ruined it on everyone" or something? Maybe they just werent on the setlist. That kind of stuff certainly does get annoying. I saw Iron and Wine last fall at an awesome little venue just outside of Philly (The Tower Theater) with GivenToFly. Second row seats. For the most part the crowd was great. Quiet and respectful during songs (not really sing-a-long music). But after every damn song some drunk guy would scream "Trapeze Swinger!!!". Eventually Sam Beam acknowledged the guy by looking at him and saying "Yeah, we know that one" in a way that made you think they were about to play it. He then turned around, gave a count off, and went right into Upward Over the Mountain. It was actually pretty damn funny, and the guy finally shut up.

They were on the printed setlist which was on the stage. I didn't hear Jim say anything about these songs, they just didn't play them, so I don't really know the reason, but it is strange that these were the two songs that this guy was shouting out for all night!
I thoroughly enjoyed my first MMJ show, it was everything I hoped for! The band were great, the crowd were great too - especially as I would say that 90% we seeing the band for the first time like I was?
Hope they come back to the UK again in the not too distant future!

Come to London!
Hello my 2nd post,
I also went to the Rescue Rooms gig and had a great time all bit detracted by that drunk moron and his slightly less drunk mate.
I was standing right behind them.
I can confirm that both of them were putting away quite a bit of alcohol through out the show.
Nothing wrong with that but I told the guy that didn't get thrown out to stop swaying back and forth as he was going to crack [hit] me in the head.
The other one that did get thrown out was singing so loud and so terrible. :'(
I asked him several times to be quite another chap near me must of asked him at least half a dozen times to be quite.
Neither of us could reason with him because he was so pissed [drunk].
But when Jim came out on his own with only a acoustic guitar the drunken lout sang so loud and out of key it really spotlit it for me.
I think even Jim looked slightly annoyed at that point.
So when he got thrown out I enjoyed the performance so much more.
I spoke to one of the security personnel at the end of the show and asked why couldn't you got rid of him earlier?
The security person told me that the band had requested that if the guy was spoiling the performance for other people to eject him.
Near the end they [Security] did decide he was being a nuisance.
So better late than never! :P
Back to MMJ another great show by the boys. :D
Jim with his thumbs up. ;D

Come to London!
I wish I could!
My life is going through a bit of a sucky phase at the moment so it can't be.
You have fun, though. Say hello to Mark if you bump into him.
I'll be thinking about you all :)
This was my first MMJ show (3rd time lucky, after two previous cancelled Brum shows). What an excellent night, shame the drunken fool behind me and the wife was not pulled out earlier, I so much wanted to hear Steam Engine.
On the way back to carpark, bumped into Jim, Patrick and Bo walking to their hotel next door. They seem such genuinely nice down to earth people, they signed my set list.
I hope its not too long before they return to the UK.
:)

I think i was in a good position to see the whole unfolding and figure out what happened - i was at the front right near jim and his technician...
PWW and SE were definitely both on the setlist, from which they were playing all the songs in order. At some point a few songs before PWW and SE were gonna be played (both of which were together), JJ went over to his guitar guy and had a quiet word....then the songs were crossed off the setlist, and they replaced them with mahgeeta tacked on as the closer.
I assume that this was related to the drunken arse who was requesting those 2 constantly and just generally being a cock...although i don't know whether it was because the boys were pissed off with it, or they thought he would just go mental if they played the songs...either way, we didn't get to hear them and i'm gutted!
Pissed off that they didn't play either of those two - an ideal venue for them to do that 'time-stands-still' thing.... but hey....
I would have loved Dondante or I Will Sing You Songs too, but they were on for an up beat show and it was great.
Given that it was significantly more crowed than the last time they played there, i doubt they'll be back - so that may be the smallest venue they play for years...
Cheers,
John

one mahgeetah is worth a billion phone went wests!!! you should be thankful!
This was the first time I've seen MMJ live and it was amazing (with the exception of the drunk ass in the front). Am still buzzing 3 days later, haven't listened to anything else since and can't wait for the next one at the forum tomorrow night. It's going to be awesome! :D

You obviously missed the part about venues holding "a couple hundred people." Those days are long gone for any one state-side.
