I know some of you guys hate me right now...bitchin' about set lists and all, but put all that aside and let's party in 2 weeks! When it comes down to it, I'm gonna be losing my shit - no matter what the fuck they play.
I'll be waving a My Morning Jacket Flag some friends and I made. It's the California Flag, but rather than saying "The Republic of California" it says "My Morning Jacket". It's got the appropriate bear gracing the front. We'll be waving it! (not during the songs...i promise not to block anyone's view) and I plan on trying to give it to the boys at the end of the show....WooT!!!

i have a ticket, but work is the x-factor, so i don't know yet if i'll get to attend this dance party. :D
Yvon, you have to come. That would be sweet! Where are you travleing from?
I will be visiting my brother in San Jose so I think that is where I will be coming from. I want to hang before the show and he won't be able to meet me until later. Not to mention he is already talking about leaving the show early. I may have to "loose" him in the crowd. :P
I am going to try to find my own way to the city mid afternoon.
yvon...your like the biggest fan of them all. A california My Morning Jacket show wouldn't be the same with out you. If you dont show...the band will be off or something horrible will happen!
Look for the Flag!
i'm coming from l.a. i have to work friday, so i'd be zipping up from work, which means leaving early. we may have a delivery deadline that day, so i'm trying not to get emotionally comitted to the idea of being there.

I'm a 19 week old fetus for cryin' out loud! I love music (my favorites are Stars Of The Lid and James Brown), and can't wait to rock with My Morning Jacket! This won't be my first concert, but my ears will be WAY more developed this time, so I'm sure I'll have much more fun. The best thing is, I won't even have to pay for a ticket!

To be honest...it's a tough call. Berkeley is always hit or miss with parking, especially around that area because a lot of college students live there. With that said, you could either take your chances driving around the venue looking for parking, or you could park farther away and just walk 15 min...

Yep, that's how we're rollin' these days.
I'm formally putting out a request for Rollin' Back. That'd be nice.
I've got a monster deadline on Friday too, been workin like a dog to try and wrap it up. Here's to hopin' I can make it down to Berkeley on time for the show :D
I've been waiting all summer - no, all year - for this show! We'll be keeping an eye out for the flag. And don't forget that MMJ starts promptly at 7:30. Don't be late! See ya there..... :D
...brought the glue to my buddies house yest and he's finishing up the final touches on the flag. Looks so sick...wait till you guys see it!
We want to bring in some kind of pole to fly the flag but obviously want to be able to get it trough security. any ideas?
Is it Friday yet?
two days! two days remaining!
I'll see all you fine people there tomorrow night!!!
It's been really chilly at night here in the Bay Area this week.
As warm as MMJ's music makes me feel, it would be smart to dress warmly.

Dress up like Gandalf, carry a long staff and walk with a limp. Surely they wouldn't take an old, wizard-looking man's walking stick. And, if they do, curse them with a pox.
Have a good show, Berzerkley
i'm so excited, i've been listening to mmj albums all day. i can't wait, see you guys there :D
So very, very, very happy to being going to the Greek, TOMORROW night! And, it is always nice to see our family of friends in SF. I love them all so much!
"My time coming, any day, don't worry bout me, no
Been so long I felt this way, ain't in no hurry, no
Rainbows end down that highway where ocean breezes blow
My time coming, voices saying, they tell me where to go
Don't worry bout me, no no, don't worry bout me, no
And I'm in no hurry, no no no, I know where to go.

One request:
The band should consider throwing "Ruby Tuesday" into the pre-show mix in honor of Robyn Rubinstein. All of her friends would love it, because we know she will be there in spirit. Just a thought, probably won't happen, but a suggestion nonetheless. ::)

Whats up y'all. A bunch of us from the Tea Leaf Green Forum are going to the show tomorrow. Thought I would swing by and see what the Home Team is up to. Sounds like y'all are throwing down, nice! Most of us are heading up from the city after work so I dont think we have much time for any pregamin' but we'll be at the show for sure.
Cheers,

I hope it all works out for you Ms. Yvon! I am going to PM you my cell phone number. If you can come, text me, and I will let you know where me and my merry band of friends are hanging at the Greek. We will be making the move to get descent seats and you should join us. We all know how to have a good time and dance the night away (and my friend who you ran into in Brooklyn will be by my side too!).

score!
The boys brought it last night! They all seemed to be having a wonderful time on stage too. Jim would let his vocals go the extra distance, random guitar solo's, a Dondante like none i've ever heard, and smiles across all threir faces for 2 + hours. My buddy said he saw Patrick give Bo a "down low" hi five after the show. They knew they nailed it!
The crowd was great, some talkers...but shit, I was talking too sometimes. Everyone was just having a great time and everyone seemed to be into the show...I was also 5 rows back, dead center - it's kinda hard NOT to be into the show from there. There were a lot of first timers to the show around me, and it was great to see their faces at the end. Just a look of disbelief. Love it!
Highlights:
-All out dance party Wordless > Highly > Cobra
-PWW - mmmmm orange and yellow lights.
- Jim calling out our flag! could anyone else see it? they made us take down the pole before the show....ohhh well, I understand.
- Meeting some forum members! thanks for the sticker Yvon. I put it on my speakers in my room. Looks great!
-slow dancing with my friend during Sec Walkin'
- Evil Urges sounded soooo good last night - his vocals just seemed louder and carried over the guitars a lot better.
- Jim had a lot of crowd contact - it really got the people into it around us.
Other than night! A magical Berkeley night! Wish I was catching more West Coast shows...
PS - the poster is 2 pinata's fucking.
Sounds amazing, hopefully it will be up on archive.
First MMJ show. Fantastic. Beautiful night, heavy mist, gorgeous venue. Amazing songs. But my favorite part: the crowd. Been to many many shows, but never seen such a happy, friendly, connected bunch of fans. Especially the group in front of us. Cool dancing, dude. I wish I'd known some of you all before the show. Next time.
This is not good quality, but captures the experience for me.

Hey, lets see some more photos from last night! Seems like every person there was taking pictures.
Sorry I didn't come down to say hi to the man with the cool flag. Was feelin' a bit shy or something. And quite stoned. And wet.
Amazing show. Of course it was! It was a bit loud for me now and then and a little bit heavy on the bottom end - especially at the beginning. Way too much talking going on around us. Still not super crazy about most of the new material but that's okay. Despite all that stuff, I was in heaven last night. Love these guys! Can't wait for their next visit.
Cheers,
A Mom from Concord

2 of the friends i brought said it was the best show they ever been to; better than slayer even.
Review of last night's show here:

Rollin' Back! You sons ah' bitches! Awesome. [smiley=beer.gif]
Finally! My first show, sounds like i wasn't the only one, mmj found me a couple years back. Playin' far and few between i kept missin' them. I knew the studio albums could not justify them live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tight!!!
Great VIBE. They move me, might of even shead a tear. Amazed!
Little late to show, trucked up from santa cruz, last minute gettin' tix.
Walked in on Amazed. That's right!
Anyone going to S. CAL/seattle? Just pondering right now, anxiously.
Was my 6th MMJ show, and it easily took the cake. Just wish they had played two Bay Area shows. Maybe they would've had the show sold out?
Highlights include War Begun, a smokin' Off the Record early in the show, a Dondante that just blew my fucking mind, plus all the regular face melters: Lay Low, Mahgeetah, Run Thru', and One Big Holiday.
All the new songs are sounding great too. Just an amazing unabashed rock show. :D
QuoteRollin' Back! You sons ah' bitches! Awesome. [smiley=beer.gif]
My thoughts exactly!
Here's an example of the video and audio. Video is jumpy at 1st. Clears up and gets way better after the 1st minute. I just chose this song cuz it was short and fast to sync and up.
I have the entire set in this quality and will be putting it up on DIME in a few weeks.
In order to get the audio to sound what I consider to be acceptable I applied the following in Final Cut:
3 Band EQ, pulling all the freq up to 100hz lower by 14db
all freqs up to 2500 and higher by 6db
all freqs up to 10k higher by 6db
running a compressor on it
tolerance set to -18db
ratio = 2
preserve volume
then boost overall sound by 3db (I had the levels too low).

...Even better than Slayer!!! You don't say!! ;) Now I feel redeemed...Yeah, the boys can rock...And that JJ...quite a ham, ain't he?! Bitch'n show.... but Patrick needs to mic up his toms and muffle them less...Carl and Bo need to be higher in the mix...Jim...thanks for the vocal stylings - that was over the top last night...especially when combined with the edge of stage kicks (over our heads). :D The Greek is great, but hope to see them in a smaller venue (with fewer talking kids) next time....How bout 5 nights at the Fillmore next time?!
Huh? I thought it sounded Amazing considering the Greek has a strict DB limit. A great show through out in my opinion.

Saw ya in the pit. Jim was definitely pleased with your flag, man. What an awesome show that was! His voice just gets better with age. Great crowd. Great energy. Safe to say that we were all one with the band. Too bad it just didn't pour. Woulda been so much more fun jamming in a soaked mob. There is simply no band in my opinion that can rock the house live like MMJ! Studio recordings do not do these guys justice.
Also, gotta say something about the good people of Berkeley...
We would have missed this show had we not run into a good samaritan. Apparently I asked the right person for directions to the Greek after having parked our car and walked in the WRONG direction for a mile and a half (thank you Google maps!). Not only did this man give us proper directions to the Greek, but he went out of his way to drive us back to our car so we could drive the other FOUR miles. In the end we were still an hour and fifteen early. The guy was a true angel.
Peace!

ho-lee smokes. gorgeous live! TTF has real bay area associations for me, so it was really something to hear this in berkeley. bbill, thanks for sending out the request vibes [smiley=beer.gif] stellar!)
the song that's been in my head all day: rollin back.
"aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh....."
soooo beautiful. a stunner.
was it me or was dancefloors just BADASS last night?
and phone! and the "speed dondate?!!" at the top of the song the stage was dark but for a light on jim. i thought "oh, this is going to be a challenge for the chatty kathies." but as the song started to build they were brewing that pull the song has (damn. i am exhausted. my vocabulary has taken a powder. it took me about 3 min to come up with the word "pull". i had written "draw you in thing" ;D :P ) cutting to the chase: during the instrumental break, the music got faster! much faster! can't remember how they did it, but they came back to the slower rhythm to finish the song.
and highly suspicious --> cobra. hot damn!
funny tone shift of the night: touch me pt 2 --> run thru. we all went from singing "this feeling, it is wonderful!" to "oh shit, run!" ;D
boy howdy, i am wiped out. danced my socks off at the show. after which went for late night thai food in san francisco...stayed the night with friends who were having a "rockband" party that went til 3am, then got up at 9:30 to catch a flight home.
random spotting of the night: reenie! great to see you on the west coast! [smiley=beer.gif] good to meet you, dfp! glad you dig the sticker! after the show i gave one to the guy next to me in the crowd. he was sooo happy to be at the show and was a great show neighbor.
I'm so happy bbill got to see Rollin Back and Yvon got to see War Begun!
Turns out I had a friend in attendance. He flew in last night and came to the party I was at. He had rave reviews for the venue and the performance. He said musically it was as good as Louisville.

WELL DUH!
remember how fuckin' sick Dondonte was...I Do!
I've got to start out by saying, that on Tuesday I really didn't think I'd be able to go to this show. At that time, I had an impossible Friday deadline which I knew I'd be working into the night on...BUT, I ended up getting an extension. I'm at work today, but damn right I made it to the Greek!
It's been a dry year here in California...it hasn't rained a drop in most of the state since early Spring. Sho nuff though, leading up to the scheduled showtime there was a heavy drizzle/light rain soaking the Greek Theatre and surrounding eucalyptus groves. Probably about 15 minutes before they started, the rain stopped, and things remained dry through the show. It was just a short, oddly timed, late summer rain storm, gettin' the crowd good and primed for a monster of a performance.
We were sitting about 10 rows behind the sound board - perfect, elevated view and LOUD! It was really interesting to see the scale of their concerts now...it's quite a production! Great lights, large venue, and a BOOMING, stomach quaking sound! Damn, they were fucking LOUD! (In a great way, of course). I will agree with another poster though, Carl and Bo were too low in the mix. Jim's voice sounded wonderful, and STRONG! And it seems to me like the mix was better suited for the EU songs, a little unbalanced for some of the older stuff. But this is now, and I really can't complain - get me into a Jacket show, anywhere, and I'm flying high!
Props to Funky! I saw the flag dude, it looked GREAT! During Jim's first, between song conversation with the crowd, he was thanking us for waiting through the storm, and he likened the rain soaked hills of Berkeley to a Scottish battlefield. During the rant, mid-sentence, he sees Funky hold up his flag from the middle of a densely packed floor, and says "whoa. That's Awesome!" Funky, I felt really happy for you man! You totally got some recognition from THE MAN for a job well done!
As far as the songs, well, they were just SO GOOD! I was up high, so I could see the BIG crowd react to the energy from the stage. Dancefloors was INSANE! Definitely one of the wildest points in the evening, that place was just rockin SO HARD! Off The Record, of course, got everyone off. War Begun was perfect. From the new songs, both Touch Me...s were outstanding live, but, well, everything was. There wasn't a low point to the evening. The band was VERY noticeably excited to be playing back in the Bay Area to a VERY appreciative crowd. The interaction between band and crowd was just really energetic throughout the evening.
And yes, ROLLIN BACK!!! I don't know, I've been SO STRESSED the past three weeks with work, it's just worn me down. Rollin Back has been a really calming song for me, and I've become even closer to it lately than I ever have been. It was perfect that they played it for the encore, just perfect. I don't know if I've ever been as appreciative to hear any song as I was to hear ROLLIN BACK on Friday. I couldn't have asked for anything more from them...it was just an amazing night.
We spent the night in the East Bay with some great friends, went into the city yesterday to soothe the food cravings of my pregnant wife (we found out last week that we're having a boy :)), saw some more old friends. Just such a great time, and damn, what a show!
QuoteI'm so happy bbill got to see Rollin Back and Yvon got to see War Begun!
Turns out I had a friend in attendance. He flew in last night and came to the party I was at. He had rave reviews for the venue and the performance. He said musically it was as good as Louisville.
Yeah, I'm pretty happy about that too :)
Looks like a great show, guys. I'm really looking forward to Manchester in November. Cobra? Rollin' Back? That would make my night...
So the crowd looked cool from above? I was hoping we would...we were all losing our shit in the pit!
Dancefloors, Off the Record, Touch Me Pt 2, Wordless and OBH seemed to be the crowd pleasers.
Some other people that went to the show said the same thing about Carl and Bo - I didn't "hear" the difference, but then again, I was never attracted to Carl during the show...usually I am. So maybe cause the sound was off my attention was never given to him. Also, Jim was like 20 feet infront of me, and it's really hard to take your eyes off of him. Although, me and this guy I met at the show (ty) both watched Patrick the whole time during Gideon. That is now BY FAR my favorite drums! Just listen to the build up next time....WOW.
everyone and everything looked awesome from above - originally we were sitting on the right side right behind the pit, we decided to go all the way to the top center where the sound was amazing. the pit crowd looked awesome too!
anyone see those autographed LP's they had for sale at the merch booth? any info on these? i think they were $40
This was another in a long line of fantastic shows I have been lucky enough to see. The MMJ flag looked great from where I was sitting, and I'm glad the band noticed it! It was awesome for sure. I really enjoyed watching the crowd almost as much as I enjoyed watching the band. Just a sea of bodies all flowing to the music, heads bobbing. As far as the music goes War Begun and Rollin Back were definitely the highlights for me.
Hooray for the color orange!

Awesome dude. Thanks for that window into a wonderful night.
oh oh oh you had me. wrapped up in your mystery...
remember when jim tried to slide across the stage during wordless and it didn't really work...? I DO!!!!
i was at the show with a friend who is a uc berk. alum. she was disappointed that at least one of the bears wasn't wearing bears garb. i suggested it was to avoid giving the impression of partiality. ;D
where's poochette?
All I can add to the discussion is how AMAZING the night was! The band sounded soooooo good and that Dondante....whew....knocked the wind right out of me. Everyone there was having a good time, even though I saw that some people were talking, it was so LOUD that I never got distracted...well except for that one girl at the end. It was too weird for words (but harmless and loving....so all's good).
Rollin Back was a nice treat....and War Begun :o :o :o

just reading about that show has put me in an even better mood this morning. thanks the for the link, tdog.
glad you made it home alright, reenie! and if all goes well, i will see you nye! 8-)
Over all a great show. Haven't seen the boys since 2000ish. They've really stepped it up a notch since then. Think I met one or two of y'all in the beer line. Any who, good times, nice pics whoever took em'. Only complaint is that the sound was a little distorted toward the end, besides that...great show.
Just watched the video stream on archive on this show. Kinda weird cuz the audio and video were not synched right for me. Having said that, that was the most rockin dancefloors I've ever seen. Watching Bo gets some time on his solo and Carl lose his *^(& was sweet!!
It is not out of sync.

Thanks for posting the video sir. I was just saying it was for me, not sure if it was the stream or not. Didn't watch it in quicktime. There was an over 15 second lag between audio and video at times. NOt sure why.
Either way, GREAT footage and thanks again!
Wow. That is definitely an Archive.org issue.
