As some of you may have heard we had to cancel our show last evening in Iowa City. We were finishing up the last few bars of "Off The Record and just like any other night we were all having a great time. Jim went to get closer to the audience on his side of the stage, and as he moved forward to step onto the sub-woofer the lights darkened, and he inadvertently stepped off the stage. Upon falling, he suffered traumatic injuries to his torso, and was immediately taken to the hospital.
Per the doctor's orders, Jim will be off the road and recovering from his injuries for the next two to three weeks. Sadly, we must postpone the two shows in Chicago on Thursday and Friday until further notice.
For those who attended the Iowa City show, we would like to extend our gratitude for your understanding and cooperation. We take our fans and performances very seriously, and would never cancel a show unless it was absolutely necessary. Please know that we will be making every effort to return to your fine city.
Thank you so much to our fans for the kind sentiments and well-wishes on Jim's behalf. We hope for Jim's quick recovery and to be back out on the road soon.
With Love,
My Morning Jacket
*** The Chicago shows will be rescheduled. Please stay tuned to the website for updates!!! ***

:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Considering Ive had these tix for 5 months and anticipating this for 5 months, this totally sucks
Quite possibly biggest letdown ever
Get well JJ
PS - please announce those reschedules ASAP to help us out getting there
"traumatic injuries to his torso" - :o woah. I hope Jim can come back 100%.
Argh.
That's all I have to say about that.
hopefully he's ok!
I was really really looking forward to these two shows, crazy.
Godspeed, Jim!
The Cubs,White Sox and now this...shit Chicago you guys are having a REAL BAD month :-[
Thanks for the heads up LP. Sorry to the folks who have been riding the wave into Chi-town. Take care of that torso Jim!
That is sad, but I hope Jim gets better! I know I will be doing what I can to make it to the chicago shows when the announce the new ones.
QuoteThe Cubs,White Sox and now this...shit Chicago you guys are having a REAL BAD month :-[
+1
So sorry for you Jim, but I guess shit happens sometimes, and maybe this happend becuse of your intense on the stage wich I DON´t want be out of so I hope no one here put any blame on you.
Just hope you get well in your foot/leg and you recover for us scandinavians in november, we need some light in our dark months.
Too bad for all of you chicago people but I´m sured they make it up.
That's a huge bummer for you guys in Chicago/those who have tickets to the shows. Also a huge bummer for Jim and the whole band. Let's hope he recovers and they can make it back your way soon.
Hey Chicago, The Whigs are playing The Riviera on Saturday night if you are missing the MMJ show
That sucks Jim! Thinking about you and hoping for speedy recovery!
Okay, so I've read that he did the splits and that he had traumatic injuries to his torso. Should we also be sending well wishes to lil' Jim?
now how about some love for the people in I.C. that were there? "postponed" is much better than "canceled"...
ps: sorry about the cubs & sox.
QuoteOkay, so I've read that he did the splits and that he had traumatic injuries to his torso. Should we also be sending well wishes to lil' Jim?
*Cringes* :-/
WOW... Get well Jim :'(
i knew those damn moon boots were going to catch up with him sooner or later.
go back to the bare feet jim. godspeed brother. see you NYE!!
Best wishes for a QUICK recovery, JJ! Sending good vibes and well wishes from Chicago.
We'll be here when you are ready to play Chicago!
Get well soon, Jim. PLEASE get very well before the New Year's Eve bash. Without you guys going, I really don't see any reason to go to NYC. I'm serious - I'm just not a big city person.
If Robert Plant came back from being in a wheelchair during the Presence era, I'm sure Jim can bounce back quickly from an accident for which he was treated and released from the hospital. Take care of yourself (and yourselves, to all the band), so we can all rock into 2009 together.
JB up in Mass.
Wish you a quick recovery Jim - take this time to reflect and rest. Most importantly - sit back and write some more kick ass tunes!
Bummer of the Decade. Get well JJ. Anyone know what the deal is with tickets? I'm coming from NC and had 4th row and 6th row seats for Thur & Fri respectively. Can I hold onto the tickets and exchange them for the new dates? I will be in Chicago this weekend anyway since my ticket/hotel is non-refundable...I heard about the Whigs on Sat. Any other shows?
First and foremost- best wishes to Jim and we're all hoping you recover quickly and fully.
Just a thought from one of the fans who was at the IC show; maybe a donation to the ongoing flood relief efforts might be an appropriate way to make up for the unfortunate accident. While we are all concerned about the health and well being of Jim, there is still the issue that we paid for a concert that we did not get to see. There is a lingering disapointment amongst the fans and a donation to the relief efforts would be a great way to make something good come out of this difficult situation.
Thanks again for even considering a stop in Iowa City and I look forward to the next show!
If you are coming to Chicago, Broken Social Scene is playing at the Vic on Thursday night. They are pretty good live and the Vic is a GREAT venue.
Get well soon Jim, my wife and I are still flying out to Chicago so whoever is at the theater, we'll definately swing by and say hi and see wherever the next 3 days take us.
Gundy and the missus...
This is really terrible. I've gone from having a My Morning Jacket triple header to not having any MMJ shows to go to -- all in less than 24 hours.
I'm not mad at the band or anything; it's just disappointing. I got my tickets the day they went on sale, one of which is a ticket for the front row main floor. I've been looking forward to these shows ever since the dates were announced. I've had to read about all the other shows so far on this tour. I've been dying to see the Evil Urges songs performed live. I've been sitting on a load of cash to spend at the shows. This is my favorite band. And now, ZERO of the three shows I had tickets for will be taking place.
If this reschedules for a time next month when I'm out of town I'll be terribly upset. The last few months of my personal life have been horrible. These shows were the few bright spots I had to look forward to this fall.
Traumatic in the extreme!
Jim, try acupuncture. I'm Bo's friend, Billy C., the Acupuncturist in Berkeley. It works. Madonna does it, so it must be cool.

I've got another thought as an Iowa City fan: COME BACK!!!!! I'm all for flood relief but c'mon, we all wanted to see the guys play the incredible set list they had up, and I don't think a check to the Red Cross is gonna make me or anybody else feel a ton better. Jim, get well and return to IC. It really is a great town if you give it a chance! :)

Get well Jim.
Give the money to flood releif, then come back for another benefit show! and bring those guys from that band, pearl jam with, if you can.
Listen dude, just get well enough to go trick or treating. There's nothing a pillowcase full of candy can't cure, and the candy will take you the rest of the way.
Good vibes being sent Jims way from Oz.
God damn those shaking knee's... :-[
Bummer. Hope you recover, Jim.
I am an older fan, saw Jimi in 68 here in Chicago, my first concert, ever.
This was the only show I purchased a ticket for this year, in advance.
When you do reschedule, do so at the Chicago Theater or some place as nice, like the Auditorium.
Keep on Keepin On!
blow up sex dolls should be taped over those woofers so this doesn't happen again.
QuoteI am an older fan, saw Jimi in 68 here in Chicago, my first concert, ever.
Wow...not a bad first concert!!! ;)
Seriously though...wow
JIM!! I enjoyed the show in Cols. so much, even thought it wasn't Columbus Day. Such a huge bummer to hear you are hurtin...Please get better soon.
-Lola
Jim get well very sooooon..
Gotta watch that 'crack beneath the bed and the wall'
Huge bummer though. Had tix for months and did back flips to get Friday tix - ugh. Was planning on heading north from St. Louis......
man o man this sucks - for all . . .
thank god i got to see you at Red Rocks, maybe this will help me even more adjusted for when they reschedule. Best wishes Jim.
We love you Jim and hope for a full recovery.
To all of you worried about your tickets or missing the shows in Chicago, I say, what about Jim? You think he won't be missing
the Chicago shows? I'm sure he'd rather be recovering than performing!!! :(
"Look At You" I'm sure she's watching over you Jim [smiley=engel017.gif]
Of course Jim comes first! Speedy recovery to the Jim.
I know some of us might not have been surprised if he had floated off that stage, so reminders of his mortality are in fact endearing.
I got a credit on my flight and am keeping my tickets for now, hoping that the band will (1) announce reschedule soon and (2) it will be a time when it is feasible for me to travel.
Today is my birthday, and I have already made other plans to celebrate that don't involve the Jacket.
QuoteI am an older fan, saw Jimi in 68 here in Chicago, my first concert, ever
Was Jim James even born in 68???? I don't think so.
Jim - I hope you have a speedy recovery. Try to get some R&R over the next few weeks before you head out across the pond.

I'm pretty sure the poster is referring to Jimi Hendrix.

I like me some french fried taters...mmmmmhnmmm..
Hope you recover quickly so you can get back to doing what you love, and what we love to watch you do.
Big hugs.
get well soon
and pleaz come back to Iowa city!!
jim james,
you and the rest of mmj spread love and joy to the world each and every day. your music touches me and reminds me how much of a gift it is to be alive.
i am so sorry to hear you got hurt! i wish you the speediest of recoveries and hope you can get spoiled and perhaps even get some delicious lynns paradise cafe food to aid the healing process along. :)
Love you Jim - Get better at your own speed. Saw you last week in Minneapolis, the second time on this tour. My wife and I were thrilled with the effort you and the rest of the band put forth. The combination of raw talent and pure energy you have been letting loose is the kind of stuff ledgends are made of. Best of luck for a full recovery!
I had no idea who MMJ was until Lollapolooza 2007 when they played a great show. Live outdoors at Grant park in Chicago AMAZING. I have been a huge fan ever since that show.
I had bought tickets to the Chicago shows and was really looking forward to seeing Jim and the band jam out. I bought the tickets 5 months ago and to have this tragedy happen only 2 days before the concert is upsetting.
Jim I wish you a speedy recovery and hope the rest of the tour goes well. Please make it back the the CHI as soon as possible.

he's 29 I believe.
Some posts about this situation seem to be quite strange. Many seem more concerned about "being bummed out," than JJ's health.
The Smashing Pumpkins are one of my favorite bands, and last year they canceled the Atlanta show because Jimmy had to go to the hospital. I was very bummed out, but the guys health far out weighed my disappointment. Again, I just thought it was strange, but maybe I'm reading to deep into some of these posts.

I agree, but people are usually self motivated, thus other people's health does not factor in to any extent.
We all have to be honest, MMJ is great to there fans. I went to one show and I had the complete feeling that they wanted me to be there. I go to shows and I don't feel any connection with the band. I'm going to my fourth Kings of Leon concert in november and as far as there concerned they could care less about me or any other fan. I'll never get there autograph or anything.
Jim James comes off like a nice guy and I think we owe it to this band to show our support instead of our self interests.
Hope you recover quickly so you can rock the shit out in 4 weeks in Berlin!!!

You also have to realize that this is the "Chicago is Postponed" thread, and clearly, people are going to be bummed out about a show they've been looking forward to for almost half a year being postponed.
The "Get Well Jim James" thread and the "Jim James Fell off the Stage" demonstrate that plenty of people are more concerned about his health than their own interests.
don't get me wrong a part of me would be disapointed to, but in the end all of end all, they'll most likely get to see there show. I know some wont and those are the ones who shouild be disapointed.
Er.............. i think after all the get well wishes, we are missing the REAL point here..............................DID HIS GUITAR SURVIVE THE FALL? :o
If only the fans were allowed to be a foot or 2 closer to the stage, Jim could've just fallen into our arms~ Dammit man~ I hope he's all right. Anyhow, I cannot WAIT for New Years! I bet you guys are stoked too! Can I come backstage at Madison Square, pretty please? There's definitely a will, where's the way? ;D
We take our fans and performances very seriously, and would never cancel a show unless it was absolutely necessary. Please know that we will be making every effort to return to your fine city.
First off I'm sorry to hear about Jim. But please tell me what was so important to cancel the Bozeman show than? Also why the hell can't I return my tickets from Chi-town to ticketmaster. IMO this band treats their fans like shit.
$220 Tickets + $650 inTravel and Hotels + 14 hours of travel = Nothing from the band.

I don't think you should use that kind of language on a board with such passionate, devoted fans.
If you want to ease your pain, go over to the Memberpics board and check out Tom's Befborstel. It's fantastic.
But whatever you do, don't bash the band.
wahdahyuuugunnaadoo?
Well that's just like...your opinion, man.

I was able to return some tickets and get my money back. No, this wasn't an ideal situation, but the band can't be responsible for people too stupid to figure out how to get a ticket refund.
Ticketbastard won't refund my chitown tickets because I bought them from a third party (I bought them for face from another message board). I still don't even know if I got a refund for my Bozeman tickets. All I'm saying is the band should not say they won't cancel a show unless it was absoulutely necessary, when they canceled the Montana show due to ticket sales (that what I assume) a couple weeks before this. Sorry for the rant. I just want to see these boys live, but they're making it impossible for me.

They aren't trying to make it impossible for you to see them, Jim just...you know...had some pretty serious internal trauma to deal with? Falling from a 12 foot stage by accident can take its toll on a guy.
And that's the first I've heard about the Montana show. More details?
QuoteTicketbastard won't refund my chitown tickets because I bought them from a third party (I bought them for face from another message board).
That's not Ticketmaster's fault; that's your fault. Not giving refunds because you bought from a third party is standard policy for a lot of businesses. You are not a customer of Ticketmaster; thus, you need to find the person from who you purchased. THAT PERSON is responsible for doing business with you, not Ticketmaster.
Quite simply, it is idiotic for you to expect Ticketmaster to give you a refund if you didn't purchase from them.
