I've got an Evil plan. . .
I'll be there for both......floor seats on Thursday, and Mezz for Friday.
Both nights.
10th row on thurs and 2nd row pit on Friday
I will be there both nites, thursday floor seats and friday with my buddy Jernigan in the Balcony. I can't wait. My Dad just passed away on labor day and I need a pick me up. I will probably need a kleenex when they play look at you. My Dad liked that song.
QuoteBoth nights.

Daaaym! How'd you get such good seats??
I'll be up in the balcony (section four?) on Thursday, and row LL on Friday.
Tater-- I'm sorry to hear about your dad--I'll bring some extra tissue just in case. . .

Thank you Salacious D. We actually played look at you at his wake and a ton of folks asked who sang it. I prefer my tissue with moisturizer :). good times...good times. Also my 500th post.
I will be in attendance both nights, dont know where the first night and the 2nd night I have a box.
QuoteI will be in attendance both nights, dont know where the first night and the 2nd night I have a box.
Sweet! I'm adding you to the list.
Any body interested in pregaming somewhere? I'm flying to the first show solo and wouldn't mind meeting up for a beer or five before the show. . .
I will be there both nights, floor Thursday, Mez on Friday. I can not wait.

Ebay...I overpaid, but after seeing them @ Bonnaroo this year I wanted to be up close and personal!
My wife and I will be there both nights coming in from San Diego!
See you all there,
Gundy
Thursday! im there ;D
Sweet : )
There are a lot more folks going to both nights than I thought there would be! Awesome.
I have not bought tickets yet, but I'm still hopeful that I can pull out the cashish to get some decent seats. Any suggestions? Stub Hub? Craigs List? :-/
Good luck Suebee... there is most def some price gouging goin' on!!! I paid a little over face for two floor seats for thurs, went to score some for Fri and the cost for ticks on the floor were ranging from $175-$500 a pair. Craig's had a few listed, but I never have been comfy with the whole meet me on the corner of 101st and State thing. TicketsNow, or eBay may be the best option at this point.
Will be there both nights with floor seats. I'm super excited!
MMJ and Chicago - two of my favoritest things!
I will join your roll call if i can roll someone for a ticket for the Friday show... 8-)

Just show up on Friday with a finger in the air. It'll happen.

Both nights for me!!!
Thursday floor seat...Friday Box seat!!! Will definitely be having a beer or 12 before hand! Interested in Suggestions!!
QuoteWill definitely be having a beer or 12 before hand!
Interested in Suggestions!!
Yeah, I'm not super familiar with the area around the venue, so I'm also interested in what people are suggesting as far as good places to get good beers. . . Come on locals, hook it up--where should I go?
FYI:
The Chicago Theatre offers tours of the venue on Tuesday and Thursdays at noon--including the Thursday of the show. You get to poke around the facility and see the stage up close as well as the backstage areas. It's a beautiful theatre, and it might be really neat to see it empty before the craziness.

Fourteen days, people!! Two weeks!!
Holy frog toes!!!
Anyone going to the Jim solo show at Schubas???
That wouls be a yes...three nights of glory...
I'll be there all three nights. I am so stoked! Anybody know if Schubas is located near the Chicago Theater? I still need to make hotel reservations...
I don't believe it is actually......you would probably be better off staying closer to the CT. Little pricey down there though...
QuoteI'll be there all three nights. I am so stoked! Anybody know if Schubas is located near the Chicago Theater? I still need to make hotel reservations...
Schubas is on the corner of Belmont and Southport roughly 2.5 mi from the theatre, or a 15 min. $12 cab ride
Lucky bastards... :)
Count me in for both nights...15th row center Thursday and an opera box on Jim's side Friday! Can't wait.
Ill be there Friiiiday
And you know this, MAN!!!
Hah..I got the tix so long ago I dont even remember where theyre at...I think theyre pretty far back on the floor/first level??
13 days away from the 1st of a TRIPLE HEADER 8-).
I finally get to see Jim solo. I was willing to drive 3-4 hours to see him do a solo show. The rock gods are on my side this tour. Schubas tavern is about 1 hour away by car, blue line and cab.
The hard part was telling my boss I'm leaving at 3:00 for 3 days in a row ( I normally work until 5:00 ). He was total cool about it. After 20 years of working for him I have learned to tell him and not ask for it.
I am freaking out that it is so soon.
I am praying that I get all my work done before getting on the plane.
Wow.

Very Niiiice
I really want to go to that JJ solo show, but a Benjamin is a steep price to pay for that (even if most of it goes to Obama).
Im a student, so I dont have that boss problem yet, but I do have Spinal Anatomy Lab at 440 in Iowa, so I doubt I could make it there anyway
Enjoy though TB, and lets hope the Jacket create the most wind in CHItown
I'm there. Both nights. Front row main floor first night, further back main floor second night.
QuoteI'll be there all three nights. I am so stoked! Anybody know if Schubas is located near the Chicago Theater? I still need to make hotel reservations...
It's not. The Chicago Theater is in The Loop; Schubas is in Lakeview.
Hey all, I don't post often, but I am heading to Chicago for the 10th. I am super stoked! I am going to be at the Detroit show on the 4th too! Twice in a week. I can't wait!
If anyone has a single for sale (Thur or Fri), shoot me an email.

Thanks...
long time lurker, I am looking for 2 extras for Friday night. First show was B-roo 05, then opening for PJ in Cleveland. My wife and I got hooked like they were smack after B-roo 08 and then the L-ville show.
^^ your name is awesome gotta love the guys who go gloveless
Okay, so make that three nights in a row for me. I just RSVP'd for the Jim James set at Schuba's.
I think it's just impossible to have too much Jim James / My Morning Jacket in my life.
Posted in the ISO 10/10 Thread. I need 1 ticket for the 10/10 show. Preaze!?!?!?!
PM me if anyone has an extra ticket just burning a hole in the pocket.
A week from today, people! ONE WEEK!! I feel like I've been waiting for this FOREVER!!!
Oh yeah, and please *get there early* These shows need to go on for as long as they possibly can--we need to get that Steam Engine that keeps getting cut out due to time constraints!!!
I was the third person in line outside the Riviera the last time they were in town. No worries about me getting there on time!
QuoteI was the third person in line outside the Riviera the last time they were in town. No worries about me getting there on time!
Its not GA so whats the point of getting there early and waiting in line?
I didn't say I was going to get there early and wait in line. That's what I said I did last time when the show WAS general admission. For this time, I simply said I wouldn't be late.
Now I have my tickets for Friday.
This will be shows three and four of this tour and 8 and 9 for my Jacket fandom.
Viva and I will be there with our best Jacket dress on.
And I am still freaking out that it is so soon!
Going solo to the benefit show Wednesday and then a nice group of us going Friday, in which we have front row center balcony seats!
I work around the corner from the CT, perfect.
Get a nice little happy hour drink on before the show :D
i will be there thursday 3 rd row center cant wait chicago theatre
FRIDAY WILL BE CANCELLED DUE TO THE ROOF COMING OFF THURSDAY CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i'll be there both nights. still have an extra for night 1.
Trying to get all my work done, trying to get de-stressed, can't believe it's this week! Chi-city here I come!
so whats the deal with nabbing a poster for these? is getting there early preshow the only way, any preordering process at all?
thanks
I'll be there friday! floor seats.
ill be there. im not happy with this band right now, but ill be there
If you're not happy with them, then don't bother showing up. Your attitude isn't needed.
Quoteill be there. im not happy with this band right now, but ill be there
Phunk, you know I love you, but you're acting like the band did this just to piss you off.
Yeah, I realize it would suck to wait so long for a show and have it cut short due to things out of your control, but I have a feeling this band will do what ever they can to make up for it.
The Chicago run will rock. The band probably did you a favor by forcing you to take it easy last night---they're going to rock your socks and melt your face tomorrow and Friday. You'll need all you've got for those shows.
Woot!
First and foremost, get well soon Jim.
My wife and I are flying in from the west coast tomorrow morning and was really looking forward to the last two nights in Chicago. Since we've already booked our flight and hotel, we'll make the most of it when we get in tomorrow and see what Chicago has to offer.
At least we were able to see them in San Diego. We were in the pit, stage left where Jim usually goes and if he fell off there, I would of been Johnny-on-the-spot and take one for the team!
Once again, all our love go out to MMJ and we'll see you all there. I'm sure we have all our MMJ stories to share.
Gundy and the missus
Here's the old Chicago roll call thread...anyone want to get it up and running again?

You hittin' up that Tweedy solo show tomorrow?
a-ha! nope. i'm in los angeles. had hoped to attend the urbana show in jan. but it looks like i'm working that day. saturday. guess we can't see 'em all.
i am getting all shades of excited for this run of shows and vacation! BRING ON THE METROPOLIS COFFEE!! [smiley=beer.gif]
Man, how did i NOT see this thread earlier.... Going on the 28th, seat-main floor/aisle 6 :D
I'm so in. Sunday show. I'm taking the fact that gas is a $1.50 as a sign that it was meant to be. :)
[smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]
I'm still goin, Both shows. 1st row balcony / booth seating one nite and main floor the other nite. The reschedule works better for me now that they are weekend shows. I hate rushing around after work.
I like taking my time gettin downtown so we can fiddle fuck around and have some cocktails and eats before the show. I hope to meet some more cool members from the forum. My wife won't be able to attend either show with me. She is taking my daughter down to S. Carolina to see my Bro-in-law. I hope we get an Indian summer that weekend and it's not 20 below zero.
Where is everyone meeting ? And who is everyone :)?
Should we plan to meet up at the Elephant & Castle as Salacious suggested? 185 N. Wabash, just a block east of the theater.

Sounds good to me, I'll probably be with a couple other peeps from the board ( Jernigan & foxtrot ) . I will hopefully be down a couple hours before the shoe.

I'm staying with my cousin, who I havn't seen in awhile. I'm not sure what he has planned for us, but hopefully I'll have some time to come have a beer with you and some other peeps before the show. This trip is going to be a bit of a shotgun affair. In and out pretty quick. Are you going to both shows Ms. Y?

Well, if I could trade Chicago for NYE, it would be an easy decision, but I'll take what I can get! Just make me proud on NYE. :)
i am going to both shows! my job shuts down for two weeks at the holidays, so, why not?
will you be in town saturday? or are you just driving in sunday?

I'm flying in Wednesday morning and out Thursday afternoon...very whirlwind :)
How 'bout you, Salacious?
QuoteI'm flying in Wednesday morning and out Thursday afternoon...very whirlwind :)

It looks like we'll be driving (or taking the train if prices go down).
We were stuck on a tarmac for several hours last year during the holidays, so my husband and I have sworn of airplanes for this time of year.
Did you post it here? I seem to recall reading a scary NYE tarmac story recently...nearly scared me off flying into NY, but not quite ;D
How long will your drive/train ride be?
i'm flying. hopeful that the direct flight will get me to ny without incident.
also: leaving chicago on 12.29. thought it best to give myself a few days...just in case. ;)
I'm so friggin' pumped that I have a show on the calendar! Now I can just sit back and dream about it. The anticipation is the second best part!
I just noticed that as of right now, in the SHOWS section of this forum, there is one Chicago thread and the other top 13 threads all have to do with NYE. One of which is offering tickets and doesn't even mention which show because he probably assumes people are talking about NYE!!!!!!
Come on Chicago! Screw those Yankees! Forget about your Governer and his hair. Forget about those darn Cubbies. This is going to be epic. First, celebrate with your family for the holidays and then we are gonna tear the roof off that M'FR and celebrate Jim's return to health, a new president and a new future where LOVE and PEACE and HARMONY reign supreme!
I can't wait for this date, taking my wife for our 17th anniv. this year and going to the show on the 27th , then hang around chicago for a nd city performance , then a show at the ford theatre. Any suggestions on things to do in Chicago for a 1st time visitor. Can't contain my excitement for this show, took my 14yr Son to see them in KC this year and bothe of us were blown away, been Jones'n since that show for another Jacket concert. Look forward to meeting some fellow boarders, R center row KK on the 27th, best wishes and happy holidays !!!
newjack, this is a thread about visiting chicago which is pinned on another music forum that i read:

the man who started the thread is a friend of mine and gave me great ideas for my first visit to chicago. it's a bit long, but you can scroll thru the posts for links, etc.
see you in chicago!

It's true, as ecstatic as I am about NYE, I can't help but feel a little smug that we get a DOUBLE-DOOZY NYE PREVIEW right here in Chicago! I have some of my best buddies coming into to town for these shows, too - it's gonna be awesome, and we're gonna do it up right!
newjack, I live in the city - what kind of stuff are you interested in checking out while you're here? Museums, shopping, restaurants?
just got my tix delivered today from stubhub. row A center. i cant wait. this will be my second time seeing them!
We are taking the Amtrak from KC to CHI town on the Southwest Chief. Never done this before and the price of tickets we're the same as drving plus paking, and everyone says no need for a car in chicago. I've got tickets to 2nd city on Sunday, would have loved to see the 2nd show but I think my wife would like a little variety, but I know once she sees Sat's show she'll understand what i've been saying. Also got tickets Monday for the Ford Theatre to see wicked. Will be staying at the Ambassador East on the gold coast, got a great rate for 4 nights, beyond that i'm open to suggestions. got to the think the town's buzzing with the Holidays and the election and coming inaguartion of Prez eelect. So I'm open to suggestions , affordable meals, thanks ...Newjack

That's what I'm motherfrocking talking about.
ChiefCrowe and I will be rockin' my home town on the 27th. We had already booked flights to see them in NYC for NYE and are leaving on the 28th. (After last year's NYE performance, who could pass this up?)
newjack - make sure you see Millennium Park, walk the mag mile, Art Institute and get on one of those free trolley buses.
EAT some PIZZA! 8-) (Lou Malnati's is good!)

The sky deck at the top of the sears tower is always cool if you have never been , it's awesome on a clear day. The Museum of Science & Industry or Field Museum. And what Jacketgal said, But I prefer Pizzeria Uno, don't get me wrong.. Lou Malnati's is still awesome.
I'd skip the Sears and go to the Signature Lounge on the 96th floor of the Hancock; pretty much the same view, and the price of a drink is quite a bit cheaper than admission to the Skydeck ;)
Something I like to do this time of year that's kind of touristy (but also pretty fun) is ice skating at the Millennium Park rink. You can rent skates there for $5, I think.
There's a fantastic exhibit at the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago regarding the rampant looting of Iraqi archaeological sites since the US invasion:
http://oi.uchicago.edu/museum/special/catastrophe/
You might check Time Out Chicago for other ideas:

I have to say that I am mighty jealous of you double Chicago concert goers, but also happy that the shows were not cancelled for you all. You MUST give a recap on here as soon as you are recovered mentally and physically.
Sigh. Double the show. Double the chance of hearing your favorite songs.
As Napoleon Dynamite says: "Luck-eeeee."
Got great seats for Sun., still waitin on my tickets from SH though.
oh, and to anyone who is coming from out of town and wants to stuff their face with good pizza- Giordano's is your place, not Lou Malnati's (unlike the above post said, that shit is straight up bad.)
can't wait to see you all there, you think they'll still be opening with Evil Urges?
thanks to all for the great advice on some side trips while in chicago. Anyone have any experience w/the Shedd Aquarium ? Also, whats the chance either show could have someone from Chicago show up as a special guest, like Erykah Badu did in Dallas ? Speculate ?
The Shedd is fun. It might be a good place to spend a few hours if the weather's ugly.
The Chicago History Museum does a number of L, trolley, and walking tours of Chicago neighborhoods; they also do "historical pub crawls":

I'm thinking we'll likely get an Andrew Bird appearance.

Yesterday was freaking COLD. 36 sounds positively balmy in comparison! I'll be wearing shorts.
Seriously you guys, not even a WEEK until we get to witness the Jacket's triumphant return!

hey everyone, i have yet to see mmj live and this weekend will be my first time. my buddy got tickets for saturday and i just found tickets for sunday online. the seats are main floor left row LL. does anyone know how those are, the seating chart wouldn't load. thanks guys!
SUPER PUMPED!!! However, my friend just bailed on me for a "Family Christmas" affair. I'd rather spend my night or life with MMJ. I have a single ticket for 12/27 and would like to see it go to a wild, crazy, reckless individual who knows how to rock!!
MNFL ROW DDD seat 401 section A
So, it's in the PIT and is row 4 right infront of Jim.
Paid $250 for the pair but message me if you are interested.

Jack, you are in for a treat! Those seats are quite good; there really isn't a bad spot on the floor. There are four rows of pit (AAA, BBB, CCC, and DDD) and then the double-lettered rows start, so the LL seats are 16 rows from the stage. Not bad at all!
Oh, also? It's supposed to be 50 degrees and rainy on Saturday. I love Chicago...
YESSIR!!! 50 balmy degrees is perfect throwdown weather in the City of Wind. :D

OK folks - it has been two LONG years since I have seen Le Jacket (11/15/06 House of Rules, New Orleans), so I am very stoked for the two nights in Chicago. From checking out the Chicago-related topics on this forum, I have gleaned that MMJ goes on at 7:30, as there is no opener for these shows. Does this mean they will be doing two sets? In NOLA 2 years ago, there was an opener so it was just one set (and too short for my tastes). Any info regarding this would be greatly appreciated!
Also, thanks to all for the Chicago daytime activity suggestions. I have not visited Chi-town since about 1996, and I am staying at the Hard Rock Hotel, close to the theater, so won't have a car.
Ended up scoring some great seats for these shows -- MF both nights, Row CCC on Sat & Dead Center LL on Sun -- which to me makes all the difference in the world. Being from New Orleans, I am used to seeing bands up close at venues like Tipitina's, dba, and Maple Leaf.
Ready for these guys to kick my ass, a fitting end to 2008. Wish I could make NYC/NYE too, but alas I'll have to settle for Galactic playing until daybreak at "my house", Tipitina's... ::)

They revised the weather again. It's supposed to hit 55 degrees. Here is our local weather bulletin for saturday. Keep in mind we got about a foot of snow on the ground.
* WIDESPREAD... AND POTENTIALLY SIGNIFICANT FLOODING IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP LATE TONIGHT INTO SATURDAY. RAIN AND EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS WILL PRODUCE WIDESPREAD RAINFALL TOTALS OF ONE AND A HALF TO THREE INCHES FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT... WITH LOCALIZED RAINFALL TOTALS IN EXCESS OF THREE INCHES POSSIBLE. IN ADDITION TO THE HEAVY RAIN... TEMPERATURES WARMING WELL ABOVE FREEZING WILL CAUSE EXISTING SNOW AND ICE COVER TO RAPIDLY MELT WHICH WILL INCREASE RUN OFF... WHICH WILL ALREADY BE VERY HIGH DUE TO THE FROZEN GROUND. ALSO... THE BITTER COLD TEMPERATURES OF THE PAST WEEK HAVE CAUSED ICE TO FORM ON MANY RIVERS... THIS ICE WILL LIKELY BECOME DISLODGED AS TEMPERATURES RISE ABOVE FREEZING AND STREAM FLOW INCREASES. THIS WILL RESULT IN A HIGHER CHANCE OF LOCALIZED FLOODING DUE TO ICE JAMS. FINALLY... MANY DRAINAGE SYSTEMS ARE CURRENTLY BLOCKED BY SNOW AND ICE COVER... SO AS HEAVY RAIN FALLS FLOODING WILL LIKELY DEVELOP EVEN IN URBANIZED AREAS THAT DO NOT FLOOD OFTEN.
I don't think it's a good day to be sportin flip-flops ;) :)
thanks for the update, tater!

This scares the bee-jeebers outta me. I am trucking in from Southwest Indiana and am staying real close to the theatre at the Burnham. Glad to see a warm-up, but flooding I can do without.
I am completely fired up and ready to rock. My seats are in the first row of the orchestra---say hey if you see me, I'll have the pink Drive by Truckers T-shirt on. WOOOOO-HOOOOO!!!!
our flight out of austin tonight was cancelled. soooo...let's hope we can get out of here tomorrow
