They should bust a 'Logical Song' by Supertramp. That would be Epic! Please.
We already know they'll have horns at MSG.
Black Sabbath- Black Sabbath.
This Wheel's On Fire by Bob Dylan and The Band. I think they'd do an incredible job with that.
LOOSE BOOTY - SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE
I'M NOT IN LOVE - 10CC
Boston - More Than A Feeling
lollipop - lil wayne
next time you listen to it, imagine Jim James singing it.
I think purple rain will be played. No real reason why I think that. Black sabbath (the song) would be fantastic though. Good call.

Lately, anytime I hear almost any song I just think of how MMJ could do it better. If it's gonna be a Supertramp song, it's gotta be School cause I wanna hear Bo do the piano part.

that is a great suggestion!! i can hear it in my head!
Golden Earring - Twilight Zone
I think they could do a killer cover of this song.
I hope they cover mostly My Morning Jacket songs all night.
There are going to be quite a few cover songs, that you can count on.
Back in the Saddle by Aerosmith
Now about a cover of "Superstitious" by Stevie wonder. I think they could definitely rock that song.
just ideas. not sure how they'd sound, but i bet mmj could do them up right:
the faces - ooh la la
j. geils band - where did our love go
simon and garfunkel - only living boy in new york (bet jim's voice would be great with this one, and it would probably get a good crowd sing-along during Heeeeyyyy i've got nothing to do today parts)
led zep - over the hills and far away (this would rock)
harvest moon or the weight
Cult of Personality, Living Colour..........
QuoteCult of Personality, Living Colour..........
hell yeah, great call! Perfect for some hair whippin'
Quoteharvest moon or the weight
I was driving to class just now and War of Man came on my iPod and the end kind of reminds me of Touch Me Pt. 2. Harvest Moon would be great, too.
QuoteCult of Personality, Living Colour..........
Absolutely!!

it would be too good to be true....I would be in tears.
Oh Well - Fleetwood Mac

Can't you picture Jim flipping his head around and stomping all over the stage?
LOVE IT
in a Body Glove wetsuit of course
;D
The Replacements-Bastards of the Young
Honestly I cannot even imagine what they will bust out, I just know that it will be off the hook. And all this down time they have had....well I am sure that NYE is going to be sooooo dialed in :D :D :D :D
*now about that 1 GA ticket I still need to complete my family of friends ::)
Neil Young - Alabama
Quoteharvest moon or the weight
The weight!!! Everyone sings a verse! WOW - i now have my dreams set on that!
lou christie - lightnin strikes
I've said it before, and I'll say it again:
The Tears of a Clown - Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
1999- Prince
It's the End of the World as We Know It- REM
Winterlong- Neil Young
Africa- Toto
due to the Led Zeppelin mystique attached to MSG....
either Misty Mountain Hop/ Down By the Seaside/ Ten Years Gone
and since there will be horns.....
Tenth Avenue Freezeout- Bruce Springsteen

???
Yes I think because of MSG the covers should be classic rock heavy.
Love to hear anything by Neil Young.
Fooled around and fell in love- Elvin Bishop
DOORS-People are Strange
That's crazy Tom.......I was just gonna suggest some FNM.....Something off Angel Dust, or Falling to Pieces of
trl would be nice too.
QuoteFooled around and fell in love- Elvin Bishop
Great choice too Leather Kid, i LOVE that song... Here's my three pennies worth, "Parents" by Budgie/Its My Life" by TalkTalk, and, an obvious contender, but can see Jim doing tremendous improv with it..."Hurricane" by Neil Young
Ahhhh...some Neil Young seems pretty realistic. How about 'Tonights The Night' ;)

yeah, but if they went with my pick, it truly
would be Epic.
;)

And do not forget that on New Years 2006/2007, our merry band left the stage to Stairway to Heaven (and actually ascended a stairwell towards a neon light that proclaimed Heaven). This will be part 2 of the Oregon Trail Meets the Donner Party, so one can only assume that they will start from there....
QuoteAhhhh...some Neil Young seems pretty realistic. How about 'Tonights The Night' ;)
The harmonies would be awesome!
Funk #49-James Gang
The Waiting or Don't Come Around Here No More- Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Crocodile Rock? Naaaaaaaa, na, na, na, na, na!
QuoteDon't Come Around Here No More- Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Yes.
Paul Simon, Only Living Boy....= Good
Toto, Africa = Awesome
Christopher Cross, Ride Like the Wind = Amazing!!!!!!!
It's fun to wish, but anything they play will be great!
roxy music -- either avalon or more than this.
or
marshall tucker band - can't you see?
don't see it happening but just a wish. and i think they would do a great job covering them.
slim i am
KC and the Sunshine Band: Get Down Tonight
The Beatles: Revolution
King Harvest: Dancin' in the Moonlight
Eric Burdon and War: Spill the Wine
Creedence: Lookin' Out My Backdoor
It would also be great to hear them play Auld Lang Syne. That would crush me...
Quote
Creedence: Lookin' Out My Backdoor
:o
Midnight Special would be cool too.
Velvet Underground- European Son
The Beatles- Revolution #9
Pink Floyd- Alan's Psychadelic Breakfast
Radiohead- Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors
QuoteVelvet Underground- European Son
I'd want to see them play Velvet Underground and Nico straight through. Sunday Morning and Heroin would be incredible. I know they already did Head Held High and Oh Sweet Nuthin' (which I'd love to hear if anybody has an MP3), but they'd go a great job on a bunch of Loaded's other songs too like Rock and Roll, I Found a Reason and Train Round the Bend.
QuoteVelvet Underground- European Son

.....??
Prince- Party Man / Trust
Rick James- Mary Jane / Superfreak
Grateful Dead- China Cat Sunflower / Scarlet Bagonias
I would love to hear anything by the Allman Brothers- Blue Sky / Melissa (Could you imagine how beautiful that song would be sung by Jim)
Yeah, Jim would do a beautiful job with Melissa. I would also pay at least double the normal ticket price if they played Whipping Post.
Squeeze - Black Coffee in Bed
QuoteSqueeze - Black Coffee in Bed
oh wow-i love this song, good pick!

Great call on "Parents"! You just
know Jim is a Budgie fan... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
Brother, by Alice in Chains ( might not work NYE, but nice either way )
Wish You Were Here, Pink Floyd ( maybe Jim solo? )
No Quarter, Zep
How long does a band have to be around, before you can appropiately cover them?
They've done it before but Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons' December 1963 (Oh What a Night) would kill it
QuoteQuoteVelvet Underground- European Son

.....??
You missed the point.
...actually you got it perfectly. ;)
they shall close the show with one song, and only one song.
NEW YORK NEW YORK - frank sinatra
this thread is now closed.
Well after hearing Sec Walking from Evil Urges, my buddy that's not even much of a fan, says it HAS to be Arthur's Theme from Christopher Cross.
I agree.
Love the "Only Living Boy" suggestion.
Got chills just thinking about the "nothing to do today but smile" line.
That would be amazing.
Puttin' On The Ritz!!!
:D :D :D
I'm gonna go with Jim's own recommendation . . . William Devaughn "Be Thankful For What You´ve Got" 8-)
QuoteI'm gonna go with Jim's own recommendation . . . William Devaughn "Be Thankful For What You´ve Got" 8-)
That'd be awesome. Last year around this time I saw Yo La Tengo on their acoustic tour and they played that. Those were really great shows. Some day when I have a steady job that earns me more than minimum wage, I'm going to save up a little every month and then blow it on all the Hanukkah shows in Hoboken. That's the dream anyway.
ELO- Telephone Line ENOUGH SAID!!!
Actually just about anything by ELO would be awesome :D
QuoteQuoteI'm gonna go with Jim's own recommendation . . . William Devaughn "Be Thankful For What You´ve Got" 8-)

I have been secretly holding out for this as the epic cover. Didn't even want to mention it for fear of a jinx! I hope they do the 1980 dance version, however. It is boogieliscious!
People, the correct answer of course is EMOTIONAL RESCUE.
Suspicious Minds.. That'd be cool..
"William Tell Overture" as performed in the movie, 'The Muppets Take Manhattan'
***minus the clucking chickens of course ;)
or 'Rat Scat' from 'TMTM'...imagine how far JJ could slide across the stage on giant butter patties ;D
Achilles Last Stand. :o 8-) :D
come and join our party dressed to kill...

just once, I'd love to hear a band, any band, cover this. and I don't see why MMJ couldn't jam it out if they wanted to.
and like many others have been saying, anything by Neil Young would be saweeeet. Cowgirl in the Sand maybe?

That would be pretty bad ass...especially if Tom does the dance that Pete does in the beginning ;D
I heard America's "Horse with no name" on the radio a few weeks back, and I immediately thought I'd like to hear MMJ cover it.
Jim's voice would be perfect!

Well if you think about it, it
could be potentially epic.
Wings - Band on the Run

Warren Zevon's 'Excitable Boy' would be a song they could destroy (also with horns)
(and Ween kills it with their version of Band on the Run)
QuoteWarren Zevon's 'Excitable Boy' would be a song they could destroy (also with horns)

I would love any Warren Zevon song.
I've also been on a Blind Faith kick lately. Think they could do Had to Cry Today?
CORTEZ THE KILLER
QuoteCORTEZ THE KILLER
oh hell yeah
(there needs to be an emoticon that shows a face of total agreement)
I'm the cheezeball and though not epic, I wanna hear This Land is Your Land by W. Guthrie :-[
i think their cover of "It Makes No Difference" would be awesome to hear live
QuoteI'm the cheezeball and though not epic, I wanna hear This Land is Your Land by W. Guthrie :-[
I think that would in fact be epic.
Quotei think their cover of "It Makes No Difference" would be awesome to hear live
It's even more awesome with Eddie Vedder. I just wish they hadn't saved A Quick One for Europe.
'Islands In The Stream' would absolutely blow my mind. Just saying.
the hall of the mountain king. just kidding
