I decided to do a song count from my Setlist spreadsheet.
Keep in mind that only 65% of the setlists are available (478 out of 744 shows) so these numbers are really just for comparison purposes only. Also, most of the missing setlists are from the early years so the older albums are skewed a bit to the lower side because of it. The most interesting thing to me, is comparing the songs within each album. I've listed everything first by album and then by number of times played. Enjoy (or laugh) but don't say I didn't warn you.

Im surprised Steam Engine is that high. Doesnt seem like they play it that often.

One of the Trinity of The Church of the Holy Reverb shows his true colors...
I appreciate you. You had me at "By Album" You complete me.
Anyway- thats some really fun information, thanks for sharing it you jackethead!
The Goods. I love shit like this! Thanks. :)
Wow, that's real dedication! Thanks BH :)
Awesome, BH...awesome!
oh snap, this is serious...and rad. thanks
so 'like it should' is a jim james original, eh?
i've never heard I cream or soaky, soaky. Can anyone provide some insight? thanks
Only 6 times for Rollin' Back? WTF?
I felt pretty fortunate to hear it last year in Berkeley, but now I feel really fortunate.
In fact, having only seen them 4 times, I've seen some pretty rare shit.
Thanks for posting this!
Cool. Thanks BH.

BMC, I'm having a hard time locating Soaky, Soaky, but here is Icream: http://www.archive.org/download/mmj2001-03-02.BRYCC/mmj2001-03-02t01_vbr.mp3
It was basically a jam on a riff Danny Cash had come up with and that Jim liked but they never developed it beyond that performance. It's actually an untitled song but has come to be known as Icream because the setlist from the night they played it on says Icream at the end because Tommy was serving Ice Cream after the show (seriously). So I accidently began referring to the song as Icream. It's a nice way to remember the song but the proper titled should probably be Untitled aka Icream.
btw, Nice thread, BH!
that was either one of the greatest or one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen.. :D ;D :)
I love your love of Excel fun time! Awesome stuff.

Agreed...I didnt like it at first, but its probably be my 5th favorite song off Z now.
It's puzzling why they play it and Knot Comes Loose so much less live than every other song on Z, both are great. Im even more surprised Masterplan and Easy Morning Rebel share a similar state of lack of playage since they both rock hard and the live setting is even more fitting for them.
Obviously some songs are going to be played a lot more, or a little more than others, but it would be awesome to have a better chance of seeing any of those 4 IMO. You'd have to think BH's numbers show more trend than chance for it though, so doubtful. Could we get a line graph showing the year by year sightings of these songs to see if this is the case BH?! :)
you all have pm. :)
well, not capn. ;D

;D Actually I do have the number seperated by year on my spreadsheet so I probably could. ;D ::)
See, building the spreadsheet itself was a LOT of work, but the whole reason I did it was so I could do these counts and other things very easily. It's set up now with formulas so even if I add a show from back in 01 for example, all of the totals will update automatically.

2 out of the 3 main pillars in the Jacket Community...all for different reasons. Kory being the 3rd.
The Holy Trinity
The Three Wise Men
These Three Kings
Right, TEO? ;)
**NOTE-Dylan making awesome mint julips is not one of the reasons...that's just a bonus!
If it wasn't for Magnix - who created the original Nashville to Kentucky fan website - most of this info would not exist so I would like to pass along this title to him!
Question:
I take it you have all these in excel, so can't we export it into some sort of database and make it like that Wilco website that lets you do a search by song, date/show played?
I don't have the programming know how to do this, but I do have some server space with 1TB of bandwidth per month. I think it'd be a neat thing to do if the band didn't mind us doing something like that.

You can pretty much do that already with Riny's Archive Search function. All mine really adds of any significance is info about each shows audio availability and some sorting functions.
See Riny's awesome search page if you don't already know about it-->

Kind of a bummer they've never played "If it smashes down". I don't think it would ever really happen except as a yim yames solo thing or something.

I agree, I love so many songs on AD its hard to call it a favorite, but I think it could very likely be the most underrated on the album.
It wouldnt have to be a JJ solo show necessarily though. They could open a show with Jim just doing it by himself, or as an encore song quite easily (which maybe you meant). They would just have to want to :) :-/

I was not aware of that, so thanks! It is great
I would have thought that they would at least had JJ play "if it smashes" solo during an MMJ show, kind of like a "Librarian" on last year's tour.
Another thing to think about, I can't really imagine what it would be like, if all 5 of them smashed it down. One of the most interesting things to watch with their music is the evolution of their songs (popular example: war begun). I could see JJ doing the original banjo part and Carl adding some lap steel, but it might be a lot different.

That's kinda what I was thinking when I read this thread yesterday.
i really like the song if all else fails, i hope in 2010 if they come to canada (which they better!!) i hope they play it :)
