what ya'll think...some evil urges? new stuff?
and for the experienced Jazz-festers....if you had to guess, when will mmj play and for how long?
I wouldn't hold my breath for new stuff. They haven't played any "new" tracks since before Z. Since then they seem to wait until it's released to unleash it live. I hope I'm wrong though.
I'm assuming Jazzfest is tape friendly, correct?
In regards to when they will play I would guess they will be the last band to play the smaller of the two main stages. This is the time slot and stage that over the past few years that such bands as Spoon, Wilco, the Black Crowes, Raconteurs have played. These sets are typically 75 minutes.
I am really hoping that MMJ play a late night show. I really think it is a good possibility since Superfly book some of the late night shows and MMJ have a good relationship with them.
This will be my 6th Jazzfest in a row. It really is the best festival in the country.
The fest isn't really taper friendly since they often sell live recordings. however a taper could easily bring in their rig.
Yep, my guess is Saturday or Sunday, closing out the Gentilly Stage.
I don't think I've ever seen tapers at JF. Then again, I'm too busy cramming meat pies down my gullet to ever really notice what's going on around me. ;D

Didnt they play over half of EU live 3 months before the album dropped at all those Texas shows, including SXSW?

Yes

Yeah, but that was the beginning of the Evil Urges Tour, which doesn't really count in my book. And Jim did play Look at You at the Rud. There may be one more example I'm missing but for the most part, they seem to keep the new stuff close to their chest. Jim hasn't pulled out any of the new solo stuff at his recent solo shows which makes me believe they won't premiere any MMJ stuff unless a release is near.
When we saw them at SXSW I'm pretty sure we knew that the new record was going to be called Evil Urges and we knew its release date. But without any solid news about a new album, I don't think we'll be hearing any new tunes at JazzFest.
I hope I'm wrong, of course :) And this could all change before then.
