QuoteHope to be.  Working on doing the first three shows.  Going solo from NH.  Yeehaw!

I HAVE A FLIGHT FROM NH AND HOTEL A TEN MINUTE WALK FROM THE ALABAMA THEATER, SO LOOK FOR johnnYYac IN BIRMINGHAM!  I'LL BE THE GUY WITH THE BIG GRIN ON HIS FACE AND THE SCAR ON THE BACK OF HIS SHAVED HEAD.

Heading to N'ville and Atlanta, too.  I'll probably end up renting a car, unless someone can offer me a ride.  I'd offer the other bed in my hotel in B'ham and N'ville (2 nights), but understand we're all strangers except for our love of MMJ.  Also, the wife says I snore big time!

Good luck to everyone.

I'm almost certain for this one.  I can't bear the thought of missing the triumphant return of the Jacket.  And the theater looks absolutely gorgeous.

I'm going to try for tickets and let that outcome guide me.   :)

every time i have ever been to the alabama theatre you have a seat. row a is the first row and so on...i've been to quite a few shows there and they have never been general admission and there has never been a pit where everyone just stands. there is a detailed seating chart on the theatre's website that is much better than the one on ticketmaster

I've got two extras to sell.  Row U, center stage.  Not trying to make a profit, just my boyfriend and I both bought seats.  Anyone knows anyone who wants them, let me know... they'll go for exactly what I paid for them on ticketmaster.

I'm kinda bummed, snagging Row W, though it is an aisle seat, so I won't have to hop over legs to piss or grab a beer (assuming they serve).  I hope to be near first in line the next day in Nashville, so I should be able to get pretty close.  Hope others did well.

If I try for a better seat on Friday, do you guys think I could sell this ticket (at face value) or risk holding a spare?  I'm an optimist at heart, but the $$$  is adding up.

Peace.

No problem!  It's the nicest, closest hotel that I know of.  You gotta be careful because it's easy to book a hotel on the WRONG side of b'ham, if you know what I mean.  I don't know if it's within walking distance (depending on how far you are willing to walk) but should be a cheap cab ride away.

Place is absolutely gorgeous.  I may have an extra pair for face value second row center mezzanine.

I dont think you'll have trouble selling.  The presale tix went fast... and good shows in bham usually sell out (when at good venues like the AL theater or workplay)... might have to wait until closer to show date but you should be able to sell

Info for Bars, Hotels, and AL Theater (because I work 1/2 a block from the AL Theater):

Bar before/after the show: I recommend Speakeasy.  It's a block from the Theater (on 3rd Ave North between 19th and 20th).  It's cheap with decent atmosphere.  They usually have pre-parties before shows.  This is not where I work.

Hotels: Only one within walking distance is the Redmont and the Tutwiler (well, my walking distance).  Both are great places, but can be pricey.  The Sheraton (at the Civic Center) is expensive, but also close.  Be careful about other hotels.

AL Theater: I bet they will release more good seats tomorrow.  I got first row in the Dress Circle, which I think is great (my wife sometimes likes to sit...boo).  Orchestra Rows A thru M are great.  Anything behind M is under the balcony (which is still good).

I hope everyone enjoys the stay in Birmingham.

For people who are looking for a good deal: I think one of the Birmingham hotels on hotwire.com is the Sheraton.  Hotwire has a listing for a 3.5 star hotel in the 'Central Birmingham Area' for $69
http://www.hotwire.com/hotel/results.jsp?searchTokenId=1

There's a website that figures out the hotels that hotwire uses, and it looks like the only 3.5 star option in Birmingham is the Sheraton.  It's definitely not a sure bet, though.

Looks like its about 1.5 miles or less.  The average human walks 3 miles per hour.  I would walk much further to see MMJ and not drive.  Perhaps I'll spoil myself with a taxi ride, though.  Save my energy for inside.  Thanks for the info.

DANG!  I sure thought they were holding extra floor seats for today.  Doesn't seem to be the case.  I was on right on time trying to find better seats than the ones I'm keeping (front row dress circle) and immediately that shit was in the balcony.  I'm glad to see our boys are drawing a crowd, but dang I didn't think they'd go that fast!

I have 2 extra sets of tix available... one set is on the floor (row U) and the other set is in the right mezzanine (row S).  I was trying my hardest to get good seats on presale day... had row J and something f*ed up on ticketmaster and I ended up with the mezz seats... so I tried again and got the floor row U seats.  I tried a third time and scored front row of the directors circle, which I'm happy about, so am keeping those 2 seats.  I got a lot of emails in response to my first posting to put them up on ebay to be fair (I can't choose between fans!)  My tix are listed for the exact price I paid for them, including the fees (and could the fees be any freakin higher)...  if you're interested and I haven't emailed you the links, email me or PM me and I'll send them to you.  While you're on ebay, check out the f*ers who are trying to sell their tix for upwards of $200 a piece.  SHIESTY!

Anyway, we have 2 months to get pumped up for this... i'm so freakin stoked.  The boys are back... ahh... it's been way to long since the '08 tour.

Can't wait to see the posters released for this tour... I was diggin a lot of the ones from the '08 tour, fo' sho!

Very true... I've been trying as well, juuuust to see, but keep getting balcony.  *fingers crossed though*  ;)

Yes - posters - yayyy posters!  Sadly, what comes with numbered posters also comes the scalpers who buy them and sell them for several hundreds of dollars.  You gotta get in there and grab one if you want it for your collection.  My best girlfriend and I are collecting posters from each of the shows we attend, and sometimes those things are sold out in minutes.  Crazy biz.  It's cool though to have a "chill room" with framed posters/tix from your fave shows.  :)

Best of luck in your ticket search, lady!

NICE!  Looks like tickets are getting pretty scarce everywhere else as well.   I noticed you can still get front row pit GA tickets in Florida though.  Come on Florida!

I'm shocked about the Florida thing... I'm guessing maybe it's the location?  I have a bunch of friends in Tampa that are driving up for the show... but St. Auggie is pretty far north, and considering it's a weeknight I'm assuming this may be knocking some people out?  They might have sold more already if the show had been booked more in Central Fla., that way southern Floridians and northern Floridians could feasibly make it on a weeknight.  Buuuuut whatcha gonna do... surely they'll sell more come show time.

On another note - yayyy b'ham!  Way to show 'em some love!

Y'know, I looked at what's up for B'ham tix on eBay, just for shits and giggles.  Only 14, pairs or higher.  A mixed bag, some balcony but quite a few in the first 6 rows.  Priced over $300 per pair!

What a shame!  Here's a concept.  You buy a ticket because you intend to attend.  No excess profits for anyone, unless it all goes to My Morning Jacket.  Then Jim can buy a nice wireless hookup for his guitar and come visit me in Row W!

I hope someone local can host a gathering of the faithful, newbies and hardcore longtimers, from the forum.  Or suggest somewhere we can meet for a beer or 6.

I have a pair of tix still available.  They are in the mezz row S.  PM me if you are interested and I will end the eBay auction.  First one to respond gets them.  Selling face value.  I think $100.15 was the price for both including all the fees.  They are listed on eBay for that price plus the cost of the auction, but if you PM me I will end the eBay auction and neither of us will have to pay that additional couple dollars.

The floor tix are gone, and did go for face value (plus price of auction).  Thanks to all those who messaged me as interested.

As an aside, is everyone in the b'ham area getting snow right now?  At least we're seeing something pretty for this cold weather we've been having!

All,
I noticed some folks talking bout walking in downtown Bham. During the day no sweat but at night downtown Bham is not the best place to be walking anywhere. If you do chose to do so, walk with a buddy for sure. Not trying to scare anyone, but after hours walking in downtown is not preferable. Take a cab.
Hope everyone rawks it out at the show. I will be!

Adding you to the tally, Phil.  Thanks for the heads up.  I always try to find hotels within stumbling distance of concert venues.  Priceline did me wrong with the Medical Center Inn, making it appear closer than it is.  I suppose I can try for a cab, unless there's a group heading that way.  I also have a car, but hate to use it for 1.5 miles.  What's cheaper?  Parking near the theater or taking a cab?  I suppose I could just forgo heavy drinking if parking's cheaper.  Oh, well.  I'll just case the joint when I get there.  Thanks for the info.  Welcome to da forum.

Johnnyy,
Stumbling distance after a show is always prime for sure. I always park in the metered parking spots. There are metered parking spots within a block or two of the Theatre. Great thing about those is after 5pm or 6pm on weekdays, they are free. Now there are a few parking lots with an attendant, I think those are about $10 with a range of +/- $5 ha.
If you are gonna be drinking heavy and have a sober folk to drive, use the metered parking spots. If no DD, then I suggest the cab. It should only cost ya bout the same as parking your car in one of the pay lots.
-Phil
Also, J. Clyde in 5 points is the place to go if ya want a laid back atmosphere and great beer choices.

This is copied from another thread.  I decided to put the 4th row ticket up for auction on eBay, with 100% of the final price going to the American Red Cross.  The original posting is below, with links to a seating chart and the eBay listing.  Thanks for your ideas and feedback.

Check out a 4th row ticket available, with all proceeds to the American Red Cross!

http://cgi.ebay.com/My-Morning-Jacket-Ticket-4-20-10-Birmingham-4th-Row_W0QQitemZ190381335738QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Tickets_all_in_one?hash=item2c539ca4ba
I was bummed when I pulled Row W for this, my second MMJ show.  It is an aisle seat and in an intimate venue. Still, I wanted something special.  My first show had me way the fuck back.  So I scored a pair of 4th row seats, in front of Yim (assuming he still favors that side of the stage).

Check out this seating chart.

I hope someone from this forum ends up standing next to me having the time of their life.  Every penny from the winning bid goes to the American Red Cross.

JohnnyYac, go ahead and put a +8 by my name on the list. I caved in and upgraded my 16th row tickets to 3rd row. Yac, I would have bought your ticket had it been more than just 1. Gotta have the girlfriend a seat. As for my old tickets, my brother and his wife wanted to go to the show but not thinking it would sale out, waited around to buy tickets. They don't really know much about MMJ other than that they are my favorite band so I gave my old tickets to them as a housewarming gift since they just bought a new home. As for the other two new ones, I was in my original hometown with a couple of buddies and popped okonokos in then left it with them. A couple of days later after I had gotten back to Birmingham I had a text saying they bought 10th row tickets off StubHub. It's starting to thunder up I-65. You can barely hear it but it's there...slowly getting louder

3rd Row Center, I'll be across the aisle...We won't all be coming as a group, I'll probably be earlier than everyone else...one of my roommates has a presentation to give at UAB so they will be later. They have balcony seats though so I'm not sure how much of them I'll see. I'll be around that area of town all evening probably. This is just too good to pass up. Hometown shows are great and so damn convenient.

Any final thoughts on the best preshow spot for a drink or six and some food?  What about postshow?  Forgive the duplicate post I'm gonna put up on the Preshow thread :)

I'm new to the thread, but I figured I should contribute. I'll be there solo in row O center. I go to college in the city, and without a doubt, the place to get the best beer is J Cyde's. All their beer on tap is served at a cool 52 degrees, and they have the widest selection in the city. It's hands down the best in town.
Why Birmingham was chosen as the epicenter for the triumphant return, I know not, but all the pieces have fallen together into a soon-to-be unforgettable night!!!

I just wanted to say I'll be heading from Texas to see My Morning Jacket live for the first time and on my bday! Nothing gets better then that.

Hey EasyRyder, you're not the only one going solo, which means we ain't truly going solo!  I may try J Clyde's early afternoon or post show, but its starting to look like Speakeasy pre show (5ish) as its closer to the Alabama Theatre.  At least, that's what I'm hearing.

I get in around noon and am spending the afternoon with my friend.  Not really sure what the plan is, but J. Clyde's sounds awfully appealing.  I could try to get there before the show if that's where the party is...

I'll be there as well, guys.  +4 others as well.

Does my bong count as a +1 or what?

Wait, does the AL Theater allow bongs?

"What's the Birmingham show going to be like? That's a good question," Blankenship says. "Historically, we've tried everything on the first show of a tour. You'll probably get some new songs and hear some oldies."

Curious, curious, curious.
