While I can't say I understand/like the middle of the week date in St. Augustine (why not Tampa, St. Pete, Orlando, Miami?) I refuse to look a gift horse in the mouth. MMJ playing anywhere near me is a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned. I'll be taking off work for tuesday and wednesday and driving up from Miami.
The girlfriend says she can't get off of work, which means that I'll most likely be heading up solo. Just curious to see who else is gonna be there, and to see if anyone's got suggestions for places to stay up in that area (not too familiar with St. Augustine).
Also if anyone's down for drinks pre or post concert, I'm down as well.
super pumped,
Haldon
One thing I just noticed as I was checking out the venue's website.
It says the show starts at 8pm. I then went to the FAQs page and saw this
What time do shows end?
The St. Augustine Amphitheatre is mandated in its lease from the State of Florida to end all entertainment by 10:30 PM.
2 1/2 hours for an opening act and headliner??? That doesn't seem like a lot of performance time.
Yep yep going to be my first time seeing MMJ and not only is it my first time seeing them its going to be at the best venue ever..It doesnt get any better than the St. Augustine Amphitheatre !!! I saw Kings of Leon there a while back.
I have been addicted to MMJ since I saw their Okonokos DVD 3 years ago. Going to be camping next door at the State park. Ahh... Can you tell Im stoked?
I am heading up from Fort Myers. Good news though, according to this link, the show will start at 7 PM.

I feel the same way about the show in St Augustine, I was hoping for Tampa. Oh well what's another 2 hours to drive.
I may hit this show up on the way back from Jazz Fest, trying to figure out flight changes, etc. I'd be traveling solo as well and would love to catch up with fellow Jacketboarders!
7pm would be muuuuuuuuuuuch better. Anything less than 2 hours of MMJ is just not enough.
so pumped
i have a final the next morning back in gainesville so 7 pm start would be GREAT. can't wait to see the boys close to home.
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!
Ticket order completed. One GAPIT ticket on its way to mi casa.

;D ;D well put, haldon!
i was able to get a pit ticket, too, so i may just have to visit FLA in april! [smiley=beer.gif]
seems like a long time since i've bought a ticket for mmj.
i missed the tickets for the pit , but i got tickets in section 102 row d,
and i'm very happy about that. :D
Pumped for this show!
Not sure these old bones could handle any more pits, so went for 100's. sect 102 row A, woohoo!
St Auggie is one of my favorite towns. Lots of good eats and drink at the beach or downtown. I'm partial to the beach... Sunset Grille, Dunes, and Panama Hatties, here I come. 8-)
what's the python situation?
and gators? anyone have good intelligence? [smiley=huh.gif]
I got two pythons right here (flexes).
i'm a gator, but i'm not sure about my intelligence......
;D wel played, sir
Venue is sweet, caught Judas Priest there this past year. My first MMJ experience was at Red Rocks! Simply Amazing
J's
Looks like tickets here are going slooooow. You can get pit still and worse case scenario 4th row in the first section. I think Florida is filled with morons :-X. I went to the Miami show, and same thing, only the Pit and half of the lower section was filled.
If you are from the North, I would highly recommend going to St Augustine. Hotels are cheap and tickets are readily available.
While I wish that there were more people who were in to MMJ, thus most likely meaning more success for the band, I am ok with smaller crowds. I too was at the Miami Filmore show in Aug 08 and was disapointed that so few folks showed, but I was also appreciative, because it made the event that much more intimate.
The huge mega arena shows will always be fun for the experience of the "event," but I prefer the smaller venues.
I do hope they sell out the st. augustine show, or come close to it, because having a good crowd, with a good vibe, is always a good time.
Just checked the tickets. Still Slow. I just hope they wouldn't cancel :(.
By my estimations, the pit is almost full and 5 of the 12 rows of the lower section are sold and none of the remaining 26 rows.
This sucks. Florida sucks. I travelled to see them at Boston Pops, Radio City, MSG, Lollapalooza, Langerado, and Miami. And for some reason, the knuckleheads in FL can't catch on.
The Miami show was great, but if you remember, most of the crowd drizzled in, delaying the start by 30 minutes or so. Because of this, they definitely cut a couple of songs from that night. I want it to be like Radio City. They went on exactly at 8 and played straight through and the crowd was one amoeba like creature.
COME ON FLA WAKE UP!!!
Just throwing this out there if anyone is interested. I had an inexperienced friend by tickets to the show (because I was at work) and he got 4 general admission pit tickets. That's not going to work for me because my friend is pregnant and can't stand the entire time. If anyone is willing to trade 4 of their tickets for these please let me know! Thanks.
as a floridian, i did my part - bought 2 and made sure that at least 6 other people got tickets in the pit. i guess it just won't be as hard to get to the rail.
wake,
i'm with you...i'd like for folks to show up to support the band, but if that doesn't happen than thats ok.
i'm just fine with being front row, slightly off center towards stage left, looking up, smiling, and forgetting about the world for 2+ hours
Hey guys/gals
I'm looking for one more GA Pit ticket (for my gf). I'm not willing to pay the $80+ that stubhub and others like it are charging for the tickets. If anyone ends up finding that they've got an extra one, I'd be more than willing to purchase it at face value from them.
Let me know.
Can't wait to rock out in St. Augustine.
so i'm doodling around the interwebs today, and see that band of horses is coming to gainesville and playing a free show in april. i got super pumped b/c they are probably my 2nd favorite band to see live behind MMJ. well, they are coming to gainesville the night i'm in st. aug. for the MMJ show. what poor luck!. i guess i'll have to pay for the orlando show two nights later. what are the odds that two great bands play the same night about an hour and a half apart in sleepy florida towns? we NEVER get good shows compared to the rest of the southeast it seems. but, no complaints b/c i get to see two AWESOME shows in 3 days.
I wonder if they'll be a big walkup for tix for this show. It's still selling real slow.
Ga's are gone but you can get a single in 101 row f, and pairs in 103 row j. That means only about half of the 1st level reserves are sold!
I don't want to be a drag but, any chance the Amp or MMJ pulls the plug on this show?
I hope not, I got my flight booked but just wondering if anyone down St Auggie way has some reliable info.
i sure hope they don't pull the show. it sucks that it is selling slow, but i imagine a lot of kids (like myself) have finals that week of the show. i have a final the next morning but i'm going over from gainesville anyways. if you consider the amount of college-aged kids that live near st. aug and go to UF, JU, Flager, etc., i'm sure that a lot of people have had to think more than once whether or not they want to buy their tickets based on their school schedule, and some might be waiting to see if they can make both work.

Good point. I didn't really think about that.
I know my daughter has her last final the day of the show. She'll be ready for a great show by then, I'm sure!
I was so excited when the shows were announced but had to temper that excitement until i got my finals schedule. i was planning to go see a string of shows, but i have a 3 day take home over the weekend when they are in atlanta, an exam the morning after st. aug, and then another friday and won't be able to make it to raleigh in time.
I was also wondering about pulling the show due to ticket sales. I know it happens on occasion. I would hate for that to happen, but I'm not buying my plane tickets yet just in case. Anyone know how far in advance of show dates are decisions to move or cancel made?
Ok, so I don't know what everyone else's plans are, but I'll be driving up from Miami on the 27th, and I am trying to figure out what hotel to stay at.
Is there anyone from the area who's got a good recommendation for a place close to the venue, or that is an otherwise good deal. Or if there is anyone else who has already booked a place that has suggestions, I'll take those as well.
You have my appreciation in advance for your replies.
Thanks,

Haldon,
There are hotels at the Beach and others downtown. I don't think there are any real close to the venue, cause it's kinda in between both areas.
I'd say the beach is a little closer. There are quite a few nice places there: Hilton, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, and some friends have stayed at the Best Western for around $75.00 a night. You can't go wrong with any of these.Just depends on your budget. I believe the Hampton Inn also includes breakfast with the room rate,at least they used to.
There's also a Super 8 that might be cheap, but I don't know how nice it is.
There are other hotels by 95 and the outlets, but they're about 10+ miles from the venue.
Search Hotels.com to get an idea of rates, and distance to the Ampitheatre.
thanks brother.
i've never been to st. augustine so I wasn't sure about the lay out of the city and where the decent (see: non sketchy) places were to stay.
No problem.
I'm there a lot and it's a really cool town. They say it's a drinking town with a fishing problem! 8-)
If you're just there for the show, I'd stay at the beach. If you do, check out The Sunset Grille, great food and cool people.
Plenty of places to hang at the beach pre/post show.
Depending on where you stay at the beach, you'd probably be no more than 2 - 5 miles from the Ampitheatre. Hilton, Hampton, and Best Western are a bit closer than the Holiday Inn.
If you're there for an extra day or so, check out downtown. Oldest settled city in the country. Settled in 1565 I believe. Some history there for sure, but the Fountain Of Youth is a bit of a letdown, imo.
If you need any info on a specific place or area, let me know, and I'll be glad to tell you what I can.
thanks, ericm! that hotels.com tip re: distance to ampt. is spot on.

st aug amp is pretty big from what i hear and you guys are say tickets are sellin slow. how do u no that? and if u really do know that whats it lookin like now? and if they were to pull the plug, when would they?
-me and a couple my college friends from UNF are going....easily my favorite band live.
-whoever misses this oppurtunity is stupid....you've got to want to rearrange and keep it off the record, off the record

I wouldn't say the amp is all that big. According to their site it only holds 4092.
I was basing my opinion of slow sales on the 100's still being available.
Tickets in the 100's (103) are still available, while 202 (center section) still has seats available also, and 302 has row cc(3). As of now it appears the 100's left are 103 row l, so they're getting close to not having any 100's left.
202 is selling row P (2nd row), and 302 has row CC (3rd row). I don't know for sure if any have sold in 201,203,301,303, but most ticketing systems sell the center sections of each level first (202) before 201,203 for example. Not sure if that is the case at the Amp, but if it is there are still a lot of tix in the 200's available.
I have no idea if/when they would pull the plug.
I certainly hope not, as I'm really looking forward to seeing them at the Amp, but I haven't booked my flight from Jersey yet.

Not that I noticed, but I always stay at the beach, and the ocean breezes seem to keep them away.
Probably be a good idea to bring some though, just in case.
Dragonflies, now that's a different story. Never seen so many, as I have there.
check! thanks, ericm
Is it me or does it seem like it's taking forever for the day of the show to get here?
I guess maybe it's just that I'm really looking forward to it so much, and March was such a shitty month here in Jersey.. but I'm gonna have a hard time waiting out these next few weeks!
It seems like forever.
I bought my tickets the first day, and since that time, my 70 year old mother who is staying with me, fell and broke her upper right arm.
I had to cancel a trip to NJ for next week, but my girlfriend asked me about the MMJ show.
I told her they was no way in hell that I would cancel this.
I love my mother, but come on, it's MMJ!!!!
By the way, I am 48 going on 49.
Did anyone book your room yet?
I'll be staying with my daughter at the beach, so if anyone else is going to be in the area the day of and wants to get together pre-show let me know.
There are a couple of nice bars where we could get a bite to eat or just toss down a couple.
I'll be lunching at Sunset Grille, but no plans yet for dinner/drinks.
hey 49 year old, im 18 but so what....we can still party together at an MMJ show huh? are you with me or what>??

I had a terrible dream last night...I dreamt that I got to work, went on the site and saw an announcement that MMJ had cancelled the St. Augustine show due to low ticket sales. I was shocked at what I was reading. A feeling of complete and utter despair coated with a thick layer of disapointment came over me. I immediatley began searching for tickets at all the other shows, but couldn't find any PIT/GA type tickets, and I was furious that now I wouldn't be up close and personal with my favorite band. In my dream I went on the forum and sent and email to the band telling them that they couldn't do this to me, that it's been over a year since I've seen them and that I NEED this!! I woke up from my dream wondering if what I had dreamt was real, or if it was all a terrible dark fantasy.
So you can imagine how pleased I was when I went on the website today and saw no such posts relating to a cacellation.
I cannot express how pumped I am for this concert. I am also looking forward to grabbing some drinks, etc. before/after the concert with any fine forum folks who are interested.

I will be easy to spot. Look for a 6'8" guy in the pit who looks like John Bell from Widespread Panic.
I may make a mistake (since i am elderly) and purchase an extra beer that I for some reason couldn't finish.
if you're 6'8 and going to be in the pit, please be nice enough to let me stand in front of you
If i see you im gonna yell HEY JB!!! and then well get a beer
Flight's booked!!
Heading down St. Auggie way from Jersey on the 25th, back home on the 30th, and on to Merriweather on the 1st.
Just a little over two weeks to showtime. ;D
See you all there.

At the beach:
Panama Hatties
Sunset Grille
Dunes
Jacks
There are some others at the beach, but these 4 are a good start. 5 minutes from the Amp, tops.
Hatties and Dunes have mid-week specials, usually starting around 10:00-10:30 pm. Not sure which one is on a Tuesday though.
Hatties has a $10.00 for guys and $5.00 for girls, all you can drink solo cup night. Tap beer and basic well drinks.
I'll try and find out where the specials are for Tuesday
would you see who is open late? looks like this show starts pretty early, but it would be great to know if there will be a place open late after the show.
(while typing this a "run thru" from a show i saw in early 2007 just popped up on the shuffle. great mix with crowd responses in it. boy, that was a great night. thanks for the recording, steely b., wherever you & mrs. steely are! [smiley=beer.gif] )

who else is in 202? hollar 8-)
Quotewould you see who is open late? looks like this show starts pretty early, but it would be great to know if there will be a place open late after the show.
All the bars in St. Auggie have to stop serving by 2:00am. Downtown and at the beach. Last call is usually 1:45 - 2:00 and you have to be out by 2:30.
It looks like Panama Hatties might be a good place for post show. They change their specials up, but lately Tuesdays have been quarter beer night from 10:00/10:30 - 1:00. It's just tap beers, and most likely a $5.00 cover.
Panamas has a couple of bars. Upstairs they have one inside with an outdoor deck.Downstairs has a decent size bar and a back room with pool tables/juke box, video games etc.
Jacks and Dunes are about 6-8 blocks south of Panama's. Dunes is a little quieter , and Jacks has an inside and outside bar and a pool. Don't know how late the pool is open though.
Sunset has great food, and is more of a bar/restaurant, with inside and outside tables. It's a 2-3 blocks south of Panama's.
I don't imagine the show will end all that late, and should leave plenty of time for some nice post show drinking, at anyone of these places.
If you're staying at the beach, all are within walking distance to most of the hotels on A1a Beach Road. Real close to the Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, Best Western, and I think it's still a Super8, and a couple of others.
If anyone needs some more info on St. Auggie, I'll be glad to help out with what I can.
Eric
so far you've geen providing great info and I really appreciate it. I haven't booked a hotel yet, and I was wondering if you could provide some suggestions based on the following desires.
I'd like to stay in the beach area. I'd don't want to break the bank for one night at a hotel, but then again I don't want to end up in some sketchy beach hotel where I have to worry about being robbed, raped, and ravaged by a crazy beach hobo.
In your opinion, what are the decent beach hotels there which are also close(ish) to the venue. Thanks brother.
Your helpful advice earns you a brew of your choice :)

Haldon,
I'd say anything on A1a Beach Blvd is going to be fine. I can't speak to the quality of them all, just the locations,as I've only stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn, and Best Western Seaside Inn.
There aren't really any sketchy parts of St. Auggie Beach, but I'd say the Super 8 would be as sketchy as it gets there.
If you look at a map, you'll see A1a and A1a Beach Blvd split on the southern end. A1a Beach is about a 2-3 mile stretch before it curves around to meet A1a again.
The southern part of A1a Beach is more of a residential area, and the northern part closer to bars, restaurant, shops, etc. Anywhere on A1a Beach is no more than 10 minutes to the Amp.
My daughter's place is about in the middle and she bikes it there. Her place is only 2.5 miles from the Amp, so I'd say even the southern most hotels are less than 5 miles away.
The Hilton Garden, Hampton Inn, Best Western, and that Super 8 are on the Northern side. The Holiday Inn and Comfort Inn are more on the Southern end.
If I had to pick and you can spend around $100.00 for the night, I'd go with the Hilton Garden Inn, then the Best Western.
I don't think you'll have any trouble finding a room at the beach, even the day of. If you get there during the afternoon, you can cruise up and down A1a Beach and check some of them out. You might even get a better deal. If they're not sold out, they might barter a bit.
If you have a few minutes go to www.hotels.com and search St. Augustine Beach. It'll give you an idea of prices, and photos, as well as a map. On a map the Amp is only a mile or two from the Northern part of A1a Beach where the big curve is.
Hope this helps, and sorry for the long-winded reply.
Anyone coming from Sarasota? Can't wait!!!!!!

So now that the tour has officially begun and we are less than a week away.
I'm so fucking pumped I'm pouring PUMPOSITY out of my veins!
Lets get some solid plans made for a pre/post show meet up. As I'm not familiar with the St. Augustine area, I'll go wherever folks say is the best suggestion. This will be my first MMJ concert where I'm going alone, so I'm def looking forward to meeting up with some peeps and having a good time.
I look forward to seeing you all.

Lets get some solid plans made for a pre/post show meet up.
I'll throw some places out there and leave it up to the majority.
Post show I'd have to go with Panama Hatties on A1a Beach Blvd. Open late with inside/outside bar, ouside deck upstairs, specials, and right across the street from the beach.
Pre show it depends on what you're looking for.
Food/drinks - I'd go with Sunset Grille, also on A1a Beach. Inside/outside, ocean breezes, great food, not real big, but I think it's big enough for a meetup.
Just drinks - Panamas or Jacks. Jacks is also on A1a Beach, inside/outside, pool, ocean breezes.
All three are pretty much the same distance to the Amp. Jacks is about 8 blocks further south.
I'll most likely be at Sunset pre-show, ( I gotta eat there a couple of times per visit) and post at Panamas, but I'll go with the flow.
I think the Amp has a curfew and should leave a good amout of time to post party. These bars and others are close enough for a pub crawl if anyone is up for that, or if one place isn't working out, we could move to another.
Looking forward to the show and meeting some fans too.
I'll my likely be sporting a Jerry Garcia tee that my daughter got for me at Roo, and has been my show shirt of late.
See you there 8-)
Hello All
Heading down from Calgary, AB Canada to Florida next week visiting the Folks, heading up from the Port Charlotte area to St. Augustine for the MMJ show, posting on here for the following 3 reasons;
> have 1 extra ticket for the show in the Orchestra Pit GA that i am looking to get rid of, face value or interesting trades welcome :)
> looking on tips for good bars/food joints/breweries or brewpubs on the east coast of FLA to hit up on the drive up there Monday, as well as specific beaches or towns to stop in

Thought I'd throw this out there after the discussions about shorter shows due to curfew.
St. Auggie Amp has a 10:30 PM curfew as mandated in their lease by Florida law. :-?
Good thing the start time is 7:00 PM.
Yeah, I had been noticing the early curfew time a few months ago. I'm sure the set list which will be shorter than we'd like, but its just something which I've told myself that I will accept. Short MMJ is better than no MMJ.
Also, have we decided what we're gonna do pre-show? SUNSET GRILLE?? I'd def like to meet up at some point before the show with some folks.
And did anyone throw out a time for the meet up?

I wish I could be there!

Finally, somebody else from Calgary! That's awesome you are heading to the Florida show.
To everyone else going tonight, have a great fuckin time and don't piss on people in the pit...LOL (topic of another thread)
can't believe today is the day. i have an exam tomorrow that i need to study for since i'll be jacketing all night long but all i want to do is listen to the recordings from birmingham, nashville, and atl. fingers crossed for dancefloors tonight (but i doubt it happens)
Just checked in at the Hilton Garden inn on the beach. Right next door to the sunset grille and across from the beach. Gonna spark one up and take a nap on the sand. Ready to rock

God I'm jealous!!!
If anybody needs any extras I have 2 in 103. I wish I could head over now to the beach but I can't make it there until about 7
Did anyone go to the concert last night? What was the show like? Setlist? Vibe?

STEAM ENGINE!!!
I just wish they'd ditch the MOF stuff and the encore covers by the time they hit Cary...I want more MMJ goodness, and these are not particularly long sets as it is!

If you wish for things like these, I have a feeling you're going to be let down. They
will rock that shed harder than anything else this year. That should be pretty cool.
The show was great as was the vibe in the pit (and it wasn't crowded). Jim's voice was fantastic as usual. The sound was great although I couldn't understand Jim the few times he spoke to the audience between songs. So many highlights (Magheeta, Steam Engine, Lay Low). The show was exactly two hours, and Evil Urges was on the set list but not played.
the MOF covers last night were really awesome. both songs are ones that i thought could have easily been jacket songs; i'd rather have had them than the jazz songs/move on up. but everything about last night was awesome.

I'm sure they'll rock...they always do. But when you are cutting out songs like "Evil Urges" in favor of "Carnival Time" and "Hisd Masters Voice" it seems like you are shorting your own ouvre. I mean, 2 hours is just not enough MMJ!!! If they played longer I'd understand the covers.
