I am very happy for those there, somewhat bummed as another who saw three shows with little variation.  I'll always have Where To Begin.

True that...I'm still shocked that jazz fest offered no variations, but at least the Preservation Hall Show was redeeming. I think we all just need to dry our eyes, shut our gaping mouths and manage a glowing smile for those returning to the forum after this one...i predict a lot of these  :o and these :D pretty soon....until then,  :'(

yeah, seems like a cup half full/half empty scenario.  on the one hand you saw debuts and covers which is rare as hell.  Three Covers in the encore slot to close on a consistent basis isn't normal for a show, let alone the beginning of a tour.

Were you at the show where they busted out Wonderful(full band)?  That shit was rad, I only caught clips from a web stream that was up for a minute but Bo sounded awesome on that.  Seemed like a real highlight for those shows.  It was a delightful surprise and but I was at home.   You got a lot of debuts for sure.  I think their whole deal needs to be workin the encore a little more.  Use it more as let loose and experiment or take a chance rather than make it a continuation of the set.  To me the encore should always be a surprise, no excuses, they've got twitter now, they're up to date on the what.

you got what 7+ debuts a Where To Begin which is rare as fuck.  That Steam Engine must sting a little.  I want War Begun more than I want to start a family.

I didn't hear the St. Auggie show but they brought Steam Engine tonight for real at the end, kinda like I heard they did the night before.

YES, the horns were on point for Dancefloors...or at least I thought so. :D

EDIT:  I think Ms. Y can give a much more articulate account of what I just witnessed! :)

Y'know, I'm an optimist at heart, and I don't want anyone on this forum to think, for one second, that I didn't have a nonstop, mindblowing, face melting, one hell of a great time last week.  But...

You'd think MMJ would recognize they've got fans who will follow them for multiple shows (hell, all they have to do is read this forum once in a while).  Therefore, changing things up would be reasonable, for the very fans that support them and try to bring others into the fold.

I don't actually have a problem with the fairly static encore this go round, because it involved PHJB and it makes sense for them to rehearse a few songs to be played each night.  Its the bulk of the MMJ set that disappointed me.  Again, they were great even when they were rusty or getting pelted with glow sticks.

I will stop biting my tongue long enough to say, I feel a little shortchanged re: setlist for the first three shows.  I'll probably never make a trip like that again, partly for that reason.

But I will look forward to future shows, as they make their way northeast.  And congrats to everyone getting some surprises at these current and remaining shows.  Where are the tapers?

"Tonite" to open?  As in "Tonight I Want to Celebrate with You"?

Somebody better explain "Over the Rainbow (Weenie solo)" too...

I was one off the rail right in front of him.  It was what it was.  A beautiful rendition of Rainbow.  The crowd was extremely respectful in my opinion for that and overall.

Yes lady, that was the opener :)

HOLY SHIT
hahahahah nooo way

I've been staring at this setlist for a good half hour now, freaking out, getting excited for Saturday, PRAYING for at dawn, steam engine, and dancefloors.  I somehow didn't notice that it said tonite at the beginning, but that makes it even better!  I'll blame the Jameson for that  :P  But Saturday cannot come soon enough!!!!   ;D ;D ;D ;D

AWESOME!!! show...i was so depressed after the show in ATL, was not even that hyped up for this, but WOW...they reminded me why i love this band so much, my 9th show and near the top of the list.....sorry to all affected by my woman passing out there at the end...hypoglycemia can be a bitch, thanks so much to the young lady who gave us her tea...and to the people that can't shut the fuck up at the shows, STAY HOME! because it's far and few between that you get a chance to rock out like tonight....'Tonite' caught me by such surprise, 'At Dawn' fantastic, 'Wonderful Man' has been missing for too long, 'Wonderful' was wonderful and Steam Engine was unearthly...phenomenal set, i may not sleep tonight  ;D

I would take this set tomorrow night in Cary.  Aw hell, anything they play will be great, but this looks to be the best set so far this tour.  I am pumped for tomorrow!

DANCEFLOORS?!?!?!?! why didn't they play it in St. Aug?  You Charleston bastards are so lucky.  That set list looked great - the most variation from their catalog of the whole tour.  Lowdown too....ugh I'm so jealous.

so great to see lowdown back on the setlist.  absolutely one of my fav. mmj tunes out there, and it had been seriously lacking from setlistls over the past few years.  So jealous!

I agree that last night's set was the best thus far.... Since they are not touring with a new album right now, i think it is a perfect opportunity for the band to dig deep into their catalog and change up the set every show. I also am way into keeping PHJB on stage with them the whole show... everything is better with horns imo..
