Sorry to start a new thread about this, but it seems there was a lot of confusion in the Roll Call Thread about what to do for a tailgate, so I figured we should take the discussion here to make sure everyone is on the same page.

So it looks like the lots are open all day... Meaning, we can get there as soon as we want.
With that being said, it doesn't really look like we need to meet at the Sheraton anymore for a pregame (as was previously suggested).
I am going to be getting to the lots between 12 and 1. I have a 10X10 tailgate tent with 4 walls for privacy. I also have a stand up grill, and full "refreshment" set up for the party tent!
Anyway, if we want to use the tent as home base, and a place to hang the flag - that would be ok by me. As I said, I will probably be the first one there and upon arrival, the tent will be hard to miss.
Let me know if this makes sense... If it is cool with y'all, I will even start collecting phone numbers and shoot out a mass text when I get there... And if something gets screwed up, I can let you all know and re-route the crew to the Sheraton..
Whatca think?
Sounds good to me.
Nice!...
Please chime in if this doesn't work.. I really am not trying to take this thing over I just want us all to be on the same page..
If everyone decides this is cool, feel free to start pm'ing me your cell numbers and I will make sure to text you with updates on saturday.
I'd make sure you can actually tailgate at MPP. I've only been there once, and it was for Phish in 1998 and the cops were absolutely insane. You could not have any open containers, and they were checking cups too. Be safe...be smart...have fun!
From what I understand, the cops have toned it down quite a bit since new management took over. I was on Phantasytour earlier today talking to many of the MPP regulars and they all said as long as you keep it in a cup, you're fine. They also said the lots are usually open all day.
Hi! Driving down from NYC at about 9am with Dodobird and friends. We will probably head to hotel first and then over to the lot....the flag will be with me. It's blue and yellow, we will come find the MMJ tent-orama!!!!
Sounds good, although I might take baby steps with busting out the grill and such...I wouldnt want to draw more attention and push it or anything
Lots open all day? Is this confirmed? This would be a first for MPP. ive never heard of them opening the lots all day
Will probably get down to the area around 3, check in at the hotel, and head on over to the lot! Thanks for organizing!
QuoteWill probably get down to the area around 3, check in at the hotel, and head on over to the lot! Thanks for organizing!
This is my plan as well, I should be there between 2 and 3, maybe 4, depending on traffic.

I'm so excited for this show! :D
So I'm heading back to the studio to take another go at the headbands... my first batch didn't turn out so good so I'm going to try on a white instead of black material. It sucks I couldn't find a place that sells sheets of material so I just buy 3xl shirts and cut them up- anyone have suggestions on where I might get a sheet of material? Checked Michaels and AC Moore
AMC, try JoAnn's Fabrics...pretty sure they sell bolts of t-shirt material. Good luck (and look forward to seeing you Saturday)!

Turns out there is one right down the road from me! Thanks so much Sass!
i guess we might not know about the lot for sure until sat. this sounds like a good plan.
i hear the weather is going to be glorious! 8-)
i'm contemplating tailgating at my sister's house (she lives, literally, 5 miles from the venue) or at the lot. will anyone have an iphone or bb that they could post that the tailgate is up and running and what the cop/drinking situation is?
pretty fired up for this to say the least. been too long since i saw mr. james and co.
I am definitely up for this. My friend and I fly in around 1:30 - does not look like a long drive from BWI so we will be there ? 2:30? - perhaps check in to Sheraton while I still have my wits.
I will pm my cell to JDbartender and if you could send some sort of txt once all set up, most appreciated.
Also, if anyone knows if there are any liquor stores in the general area, that'd be a help.... or, I'm happy to contribute $$$ ... don't want to show up emptyhanded!
yeah guys... as i said. just shoot me your cell numbers and when i get to the lot on saturday i will let you know the deal. i am going to try and choose a lot away from the main gate as security is always tighter near the entrance. if for some reason i cant get in - i will let you all know via text and we will meet at the sheraton..

Ive never been to MPP, but any venue of this size that Ive been to always has employees direct you where to park, so I doubt youll be able to just pick where you want to park. Thats why it would make sense to have a caravan travel from the hotey so we'd have a few cars in a row or something

i hear ya! but with so much conflicting info i don't think we'll know the lot situation til sat. i think jd is offering to be our scout & i'm sure he'll text us all the details.
seems like a bunch of us may be rolling into the sheraton around the same time. we'll probably all look something like this ---> :D seriously tho, i think we'll all be looking out for other forum members & can pull together a caravan from there.
capt - didn't i read somewhere that you'll be wearing a name tag? we'll all look for ya!
i called the sheraton to ask about the shuttle. here's what i got:
"the shuttle service is available for destinations within 5 miles & is based on availability."
so it's not concrete but may still be an option for those who don't want to drive or walk.
I'll be there.

That's right! No one knows for sure but as I said, I have been conversing with some of the regulars over on the Phish board and they tell me that the lots are pretty much open all day. As I said, I will be getting there between 12 and 1. If they let me in, I will text you all and tell you where I am. If they don't I will find out for sure when the lots open. If we have to meet at the hotel, no big deal. However my guess is that we will be able to get into the lots early.
Anyway, I got a number of your cells and I believe I have responded back to everyone.. Keep the cell numbers coming my way and I will make sure to keep you all in the loop!
Who else is :D or is it just me?
I live in the area and I'm planning to call Merriweather today to see if I can find out the deal re: what time the lots open. I'll post here when/if I do.
Also, if anyone needs a ride from the Sheraton and doesn't want to rely on the shuttle, I will likely have two spots available (assuming I'm going to give Ky & ALady a ride over, which I've confirmed with neither).
Quotei guess we might not know about the lot for sure until sat. this sounds like a good plan.

I called Merriweather on the phone yesterday and they said 4:30. Just so ya know. Looking forward to a great show and a great day.

From what I understand, that is what they tell people who call... But from the people I have talked with, the lots are actually open all day if you just show up.
I am going to be there at 1:00, and I am going to text people when I find out what the deal is for sure.
I just received an e-mail from them that says the lot will be open at 4 pm, contingent upon traffic.

So does this mean if there's a huge line at say 2PM, theyd start letting cars in then? Thats how I would interpret it
Also, when I called they told me 530PM, several others have been told 4PM...all these different times make me feel like it will actually be open much earlier but they dont want people raging in the lot for 6 hours before a show 8-)

I was half serious and half kidding, but barring me going to office max or something today, I probably will be sans nametag ;D
...although I might write "I NEED FLOOR TIX" on a white t-shirt
Cant believe this shiz in almost 48 hours away [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]
Maybe, but I'm not sure.
I will say that traffic is notoriously wretched in and out of MPP, so getting there earlier would be nice to avoid the crush.
QuoteMaybe, but I'm not sure.

Is it easier to get out quicker if you get there early or later (ie at what point are they parking cars closer to the exit)?
I hate to admit this, but I have no idea! I've always been the passenger, not paying attention ::)
I recall getting out is easier than getting in. I'm about 45 minutes from the venue. We once left 2 1/2 hours before the opener and still managed to miss him due to traffic.
I sure am glad I'm walking over
QuoteI sure am glad I'm walking over
Im pondering parking at this mall across the street and walking over, but thats a long haul for some chairs and a big ass cooler. Plus Id have to walk it all back before the show starts

As I said before, the phish phans over on PT who go there every year say the parking lot is pretty much open all day..
I think you are right... They are trying to avoid a huge party by telling those who call - don't show up until 4. However my guess is, there is no real way to close the lot so they figure if they tell people not to come until 4, they won't.
I remember going to a DMB show in Virginia about 4 years ago and the venue said the same thing. However when I got there at noon, the lot was wide open and no one was there. So I grabbed a prime spot and started the party!

I got cell numbers from about 10 of you so far, and you guys are bringing between 1 and 7 guests each... Should be a nice little party!
Would love to party with you guys and finally meet you. But, not sure if I will make it in time. Coming in from DC with a friend of mine. He has to teach a class Saturday afternoon. Fucking snowstorm in Feb screwd up his teaching schedule so now he has to make up classes. Probably will not get to MPP until 6 or so. Will try to look for flag if it is still up. Any idea of what is going on after show?? Partying at the hotel or nearby bar???

I would imagine a party at the hotel. We should have a bunch of beer left over. And I think the bars close down real early down there? The hotel bar might be a good spot for a bit. I down with hanging till late.
That is a fine question. Hotel bar is fine by me, sounds like most of us are heading back that way anyhow.

Yes, thanks to jdbartender for putting it together...great to meet those of you I hadn't yet met and see those of you I had. I'm still wondering how I ended up with more beer than I showed up with, though!
Jared thanks for putting the tailgate together. What a great group of people. It was one of those special moments......the weather, the music, Jimbo's bubba burgers, the bagpipes, the flag!, the derby, the show, and then Sean from Boston chasing the domino's delivery guy at 1am. The show was amazing.....Jim was out of control.......I have to say that "Dancefloors" was absolutely, completely insane..........we have some tailgate pics that we will post once we get unpacked.......back to reality, until the next show.

Agreed, the scene was awesomely mellow. Coming from a life of tailgating at Great woods / Tweeter / Comcast in Boston, it was fantasticly relaxed. And free parking?! mindblowing.
I think it was funny that when you and we got there we were the only two cars there (sorry for that tour of Columbia by the way). I didn't know you from Adam but when you started unpacking and getting your shit out I said to Sean "I hope that's JDbartender from the board because he's not messing around over there". Pretty funny coincidence.
