Dondante 4 billlion!
set list about the same as b'ham, I think. No magheetah
Great energy from towards the front. I love the catchy riff on the new Friends(?) song
ended up next to Dylan for a minute and met goose and johnnyac, great to meet you guys
I was throwing more devils horns than any other jacekt show I have seen; don't know why
yy has taken sassy bad ass to the next level
tired, hungry, ears ringing. took my 15 year old nephew; we made it 3 from the rail; wife there too
they just keep raising the bar, sounded amazing
thanks for the rock! Long live rock
missed you Brian; there was a lot of dry humpin' going on.
early morning

Thanks for the 1st review. Great to hear that your 15 year old nephew made it to 3rd from the rail. Hope he dug it
pretty amazing how they've re-re-re-worked the middle ending of Dondante. Amazingly interesting riff and then a psychorock freakout
they did smokin from shootin, then straight into the middle of Run Thru
it was obvious some folks weren't digging the encore covers with PHJB, but the look on yy face was ecstacy and man, it sounded awesome. shape shifter, that yy
my wife is convinced that yy's songs when he dons the cape are his shadow songs.

First, I love this from twitter:
Nashville: we woke up, churned some butter, baked a pie, took a nap, and came up with this..
It's almost enough to start making me twit or whatever
Second:
Carried Away
What's up with it?
best part of my day is waking up, stumbling into work, logging on to the forum, and reading about last night's show....what a blessing....can't wait for the 27th!
I thought Touch Me I'm Going To Scream Pt. 2 blew the roof off!!!!!
What a great show!

I signed up for Twitter a couple months ago just to 'follow' certain pages. If you 'follow' MMJ you get the last set list immediately after the show and any other random notes they may post. I also follow different music and science sites that post news ect every day.

Perfect! So was Wonderful (The Way I Feel)! Jim's been toying with that song for some time now, and together with his four favorite bandmates, nailed it to the fu*king wall!!!!!!!! 8-)
Bramble sang "Carried Away". :o Pretty dang fantastic. Wondering if it's off his upcoming solo record?
Nashville was pretty great...I might give a slight edge to the Alabama set but it was awesome to see the show with all my Nashville peeps.
So cool to run into JohnnYYac and flyguy and his lovely wife and get to chat a bit, and glad I saw goose, LoveDog et al. on the way out. Hope you guys had a great time!
*edit* ooh, I agree...Wonderful was, well, wonderful.
I thought Wonderful was WAWM...so it was new as well?
Carl has played that song for awhile. I assume it's his song.
You can download a live version here:

Ah cool! I knew you would know, BH. So it's not something he's recorded, as far as we know?

The only recorded stuff I know of is the songs right above that live Indy show titled "Lose What's Left" I'm surprised he hasn't made an official release out of that or at least done something on the side by now. His stuff is pretty mellow but I like it.
We only waited outside the auditorium for about 35 mins and by some miracle of God we were on the rail... BRILLIANT!!!!!
Off to find a Nintendo duck hunt gun ;D
Can anyone tell me if Jim did Louisiana Fairytale and St. James Infirmary with PHJB?

I sent you a text message from the show last night, BH. He played both, in that order, back-to-back.

Ahhhhh, that was you! Your name didn't come up for some reason. Two mysteries solved with one post! Thanks man. :)
On my phone...have a couple videos. Haven't even watched them myself...so I apologize if the audi and/or video is bad. Gotta work on I'm amazed when I get home....showed it at 100% uploaded but with an error.

I kinda thought that was a possibility, but I forgot to send one that identified me. My acumen and the music were copulating, and I didn't want to interrupt.

Wonderful has been getting played since like 2007ish. Mostly Jim solo, I think this might be the 2nd full band performance, first being bridge school.

I know! Even wiht the MOF treatment, it was still solo...basically. Last night tho, it went from being a good song to being an awesome song!
How full was it? That place seems pretty big. Just curious if it was close to a sellout.
QuoteHow full was it? That place seems pretty big. Just curious if it was close to a sellout.
The floor was "sold out" (how ever many that is) and from my view there was no one in the upper sections of the seating.
Yeah the floor was very very full, there were maybe 2-3 hundred in the upper seating, but it was pretty empty up there.
Wait a second. I just listened to Run Thru from Birmingham for the first time. Why did the boys not perform the first third of the song? This will not stand. Please tell me they didn't do the same thing in Nashville and that this will not continue at all the dates.

Be sure and tell Jim that if you ever meet him. ;)
It is kind of like skipping dinner and going straight for the ice cream.

He did two songs with them and the first was Louisiana Fairytale..the second I didn't recognize. I thought the saxophonist from PHJB sang St. James Infirmary later in their opening set?
I think I said Jim did those two songs in Birmingham too, but now I realize I was wrong.
Anyone know what the 2nd mystery song was?
I remember the first time I saw them at Jillian's about ten years back.It only took about three notes for the music to upstage the hair(there was some SERIOUS hair back then noobs) and for me to fall in love with MMJ.Last night in Nashville somewhere between a humble thank you and Jim telling us we were a "handsome bunch of Son's of bitches" ;D I realized somewhere between Jillian's and Nashville they'd fallen in love with us too.
Last night as we left our hotel headed to the show,I noticed a huge crowd headed in the other direction. It turned out MMJ wasn't the only show on 4th avenue and Jon Bon Jovi was getting ready to play to a sold out crowd in a mega arena a few doors down.Later at our show I noticed the empty seats in the upper arena and felt a little bummed. When the spotlight scanned the crowd I noticed the band watching us in our MMJ induced stupor with our arms in the air and huge smiles on our melted faces and I forgot all about the empty seats.
Those Bon Jovi fans sure had us outnumbered but when they walked back into the hotel I didn't see a single melted face in the bunch.
Damn I'm tired... made it back home 'bout 1:30, dropped off the boys, and then got up at 6:30 to teach... Well worth it... I loved the whole concert, and the guys I was with (never seen, or really heard MMJ) liked OBH to Touch me pt 1, but were absolutely beside themselves from then on...
Golden reminded me once again why I fell in love with Yim Yames and Dondante... well... you know... the only thing that could have made it any better was a lil Steam Engine, but I am by no means complaining... AWESOME SHOW GUYS!!!! THANKS AGAIN!
And by the way, not only was Bon Jovi at the Sommett center, but Levon Helm was 3 blocks down the road at the Ryman... Traffic was hell getting out as I think all three let out within 30 minutes of each other...
PLEASE PLAY LOUISVILLE SOON!!!! I'll take a picture of my testes and send it to you for a Halloween night (or any night) at the Palace... my toes for anything else ;)
and on a side note... you can catch me on America's funniest Home Videos this Sunday night... I play a prank on one of my students with a penny... ;D

Great trip, if short, to Nashvegas, and great to meet flyguy, JohnnYYac, LowDownLuvDawg (and his pal, can't recall right now) and share some beers! Tremendous peeps. I'm disappointed that I didn't get to meet others, but I was determined to get on the rail and stay there, so I didn't take time to socialize. I think I saw you, ALady, back in the crowd a ways before the show started, and I cannot believe I missed Dylan!
Outstanding show and performance -- I'm really glad I got up front, it had been years, and didn't have much problem with the crowd even at the ripe old age of 41...there were some cool people around me and they liked the rawk too. PHJB was so good, I enjoyed watching the horn section crack up at their drummer rocking out on Highly Suspicious!
I LOVED Carried Away -- as mentioned, I was on the rail, directly in front of Carl, so I got a great view of that. I love the treatment the band gives to tunes that aren't necessarily all theirs...this one, the covers, Wonderful, and especially Losin' Yo Head! It was truly mind-blowing to watch and hear the boys tear that one up, with a quicker tempo than the original.
I was mostly successful in my quest to remain ignorant of the previous evening's setlist. I was a little surprised with the loss of Lowdown, Mageetah, Steam Engine (!), and other former standards, but that's okay. I'm mostly sad for JohnnYY, because he should get to hear those.
It was great to be close to the stage again, but as the years go on, I realize that I'll never get the same kind of experience that I did in 2004 when I walked into the Gypsy Tea Room and strolled up to the stage wondering where everybody was and if I was in the right place. But that's part of what makes this band special. The show was great then, the performance incredible, and it still is. The intensity that these guys play with never fades or diminishes...as always, Dondante and (abbreviated) Run Thru just completely wrecked me. But even if the setlists are similar night to night, and I don't get all of my old favorites, the show is never the same. My Morning Jacket is always ON, and that's what I love.
"We just love to play weird music and have fun and have you guys come and see us..."

Nice review Crispy. Love your last paragraph. Thanks!
Thanks, Dave!
Ha! I didn't spot this when I took the picture, but it seems somebody got a little confused with the PHJB's name...

CrispYY-
Great review! And even though I haven't seen the tour yet (going next Sat) I'm already feeling many of the same feelings. I am similar age (40) and have a similar "first time" stroll in to see MMJ in a bar....
I currently have seats and GA pits and am debating what to do. Like you I'm thinking I might try and get the rail and stay there. What time you had to get there, was there a line?
My concerns are general crowd mayhem (heightened by recent thread re: crowd idiots), missing out on any pre-gathering to go get in line early vs just stroll in at 7:59... whether getting in and out for bathroom / beer run would be doable........
In general, I'd be interested in you elaborating on your experience if you have a sec....
actually, I'll start a thread!

Ha! Thread title = "Old Duffers' Guide to the Rail"
Glad to help...
I thought I saw you up on the rail, CrispYY! We'll meet up eventually, I'm sure. Glad you had a good time!
Things that were awesome about Nashville:
Hearing "Friends Again" again. Can't get enough of this tune!
PHJB doing a second line through the crowd after their set
Dondante..............
Hearing "Carried Away". Can't wait to see what else Carl has in store for us!
PHJB, especially the drummer, dancing around during the encore ;D Too cute!
Sorry I missed Flyguy and Crispy. We were yelling for you all between songs for a while. I don't know why I don't have either of your numbers, but we'll have to do something about that. It was nice to meet JohnnyYac, seems like my kind of guy!
That show was all Jim. He is such a rock star, which we all know but is still a little surreal for me at times. We had a great time. At one point I found myself hugging Tracy! Yeah, I must have been feeling it! It was crazy to see all those crazy kids pushing in front of ME. I must be getting old. But I've seen my fair share of shows on the rail. I remember a time when everyone stood or sat in the back and I was the only one within twenty feet of the band and now, well, there's a whole other thread about that.
My only regret is that I didn't have more time to hang out before and after the show, but unfortuntely I do have a life and career beyond this band and the show itself was great. The boys never disappoint and PHJB were a great addition. I look forward to seeing what the boys have planned for us in the future...
Great reviews everyone!

I am not all that familiar with Deer Tick, but hopefully I will be there and we can share some brews...
Just put on this boot and the crowd sounds amazing.
Yay Nashville :)
