Title: Let's discuss the additional songs and covers
Post by: midwesterner on Jun 14, 2010, 04:40 PM
"along with additional songs and covers from each album's time period."

So let talk about the b-sides, covers and other songs that will be played at each show. What songs are you expecting or want to hear in addition to the albums and on what nights do you expect them to get played

I am not really sure about each night but here are some "non album"songs  I would like to hear:

Cobra (with the ending)
O is the One
Can You See The Hard Helmet On My Head

Covers
Careless Whispers
Tyrone
Take My Breathe Away
I Could Never take the Place of you Man
This Magic Moment
When You Are Who You Are

What are your songs.....

Great thread!

Based on the enormous effort involved in preparing to play every song on all five albums, I'm not expecting them to get TOO crazy with the "extras" but more likely play songs from that era that they have played quite a bit in the past.

Things like:

Weeks Go By Like Days
Tonight I Want 2 Celebrate With You!
Sooner
Cobra
O Is The One That I Real Please, please!
How Do You Know
How Could I Know
Where To Begin
Wonderful(The Way I Feel)
Lil Billy

Dear Wife
Come Closer
Sooner

Suspicious Minds
My Sweet Lord
Rocket Man

Oh yeah and everything else they have ever done ;)
(does that sound greedy) :-?

I can't believe I forgot "Tonight I Want 2 Celebrate With You!". I really think they have to include a few from both our lists especially O is the One.

I just put the major releases in a playlist and they add up to 5 hours on the nose.  So 1 hour or so each night for the main event.  These will either be short sets or they are gonna play just about everything.  For 50 bucks a pop I'm hoping on the later.

oh yeah,

Lil Billy

One hour of album time equals about 90 minutes of live time in jacket language.  Dondante, Steam Engine, etc.

What I have been thinking is the album followed by 6 or 7 songs then a 2 or 3 song encore. Total show length clocking in at around 2.25 hours. This year's shows haven't been very long.  Most shows have featured a opening act which makes me wonder if they will add opening bands

I'm hoping for the following:

Chills
Tyrone
Oh! Sweet Nothing
It Makes No Difference
A Quick One

And what are the odds of hearing something from MOF?

Losin Yo Head (maybe?)

let's assess the real chances that we might get lil' billly either on TF or AD night.  i didn't start listening to the jacket until ISM in 2003 (and not super hardcore until probably late 2004, and didn't see them live until 2005, so i obviously never have seen them play that.  i only have the demo package with the live version on it.  i think it'd be awesome for them to bust it out.

Any chance of them repeating any previously played album material?

ie, OBH on Sat night

I would like to hear some It Still Moves songs during the last 2 nights.

Also, I would assume "and beyond" on Sat. will include some MoF songs.  His Masters Voice (Jim Solo) and full band Losin Yo Head is my guess.

i'd say that there is a real good chance they'll play OBH every night.

Why wouldn't you just look at this night by night?  Z is only 47 minutes long so they'll obviously play more extra songs that night compared to the albums that are half an hour longer than that one.

Something that hasn't been discussed on the board which I would really lose my mind over is, if they played some Monte De Sundua, just one is all I would need. Skipping Stones or even Dynamite Explosion. I would also say it's almost 100% that they WON'T play One Big Holiday each night. I think that kinda goes against what they're trying to do.

Here is a list of covers I put together in terms of ones that I believe/hope may be played.
TF:
Tyrone
AD:
Rocket Man, Take My Breath Away,
ISM:
Careless Whisper, I could never take the place of your man, Man In Me,
Z:
It Makes no difference, Goin' to Acapulco,
EU
Move on up, Cold Sweat, Behind that Locked Door (Jim solo), His Master's Voice (Jim solo)

In all honesty, it's not even the "additionals" that I'm pumped to hear. Here are the top 5 musical moments I'm looking forward to (maybe this should be a new thread, but no need to clutter the board)

1) War Begun
2) Strangulation
3) Steam Engine - the first face melt (last two times I've seen them has been without this song...withdrawals)
3.5) ...is all the proof you neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed
4) Lay Low - outro
5) Run Thru - when Patrick comes in with the thunder and clock arms

Anything else is just sprinkles and cherries in my book, and the best part is...I'm guaranfuckingteed to hear each thing on this list.

I doubt I will be able to make the TTF and At Dawn shows...but I am a go for the last 3 nights. Happy to be part of it either way!

I was thinking about these earlier...I wasnt around for the 1st 2 records so I dont know much about the era then (of course I am familiar w/ the albums, and early chapter recordings...I just dont know about live rotation back then...and it looks like there are alot of incompletes in the show archive).

It Still Moves:
Sooner
Where To Begin
Same In Any Language

Z:
How Could I Know
I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man
It Makes No Difference
Devil's Peanut Butter
*Man In Me* (wont hold my breath...but damn)

Evil Urges and Beyond:
Dear Wife
El Caporal
Move On Up
+New Jams (Wonderful, Friends Again, and Carried Away)

Amen!!! Praaaaaaaaise jeebiss!! I can't wait to see what they bring to Pitt, but I couldn't agree more with every word of yr post. Just reading the 3.5 brought in the goosebump brigade. I never saw a live Steam Engine yet (with my whole one show under my belt...) And Strangulation will probably make me ball my f'n eyes out of what's probably going to be my nonexistent face.

And Run Thru...............and Run Thru........ and maybe a 5.5 featuring "Yooouuu haaaaddd me wooorrrrrrrrrrrieeedddd, so worriedddd.........."
Title: 5 Nights Of Covers?
Post by: DaFunkyPrecedent on Jun 15, 2010, 06:46 PM
It says we can expect some "covers" and "other songs" of each era.  What cover songs do you think will come out each of the 5 nights?

White Rabbit? Rocket Man? Take My Breath Away? It Makes No Difference? Move On Up? Hit It & Quit It? Loving Cup? What If Eddie Vedder comes out and does A Quick One? Will Eryka Badu be there for Tyrone? The Roots on night 5? I mean shit, ?uest and The Boys gotta go to work in NYC anyway! Will we get JJ doing George Harrison songs? Monsters of Folk songs? El Corpoal? Where to Begin? EPs? Early Day? Is Tommy Gonna attempt Highway To Hell again? What is to expect? Whats gonna happen? What did I get myself into?  :D :D :D

after hearing their version of "all the best" on the NPR stream of the john prine album, i'd be super pumped on some john prine covers.  amazing how they worked that omnichord into a country song.

I didn't bring it up when I started this thread but another thought I had is who are special guest we might see. I would love to see them bring out M Ward and the big dream would be the Boston Pops. The Boston Pops shows I saw is one my favorite shows I have seen by any band.
